ThatCyndiGirl
Ohmy. Why does Trojan have to play commercials for their uhm.... motorized tea-helping device during primetime? My FIVE YEAR OLD SON last night asked me, upon viewing such a commercial which showed women's hair being blown back...."Mom, do you want one of those? It can blow your hair back! I think it would be neat! I wanna get MY hair blowed back!" :001_huh: I just looked at dh and said,"Well, honey, we already have a hair dryer so if my hair needs blowing back I'll just go with that........" :tongue_smilie: ETA: I am SOOOO not a prude and our family is open about tea-ality, but, c'mon!! We're open about periods, tea, etc, but don't tell our kids about tea-helping devices. Hmmm, maybe that DOES make me a prude! Mabeline
Yup, I also hate the scary movie commercials too. I have noticed that the inappropriate commercials start around 6pm now. We are planning on canceling cable this week. We are happy watching Netflix and Hulu.
Teachin'Mine
Oh my ... :svengo: Nice recovery though! :D Things were no where near that bad when we cut the cable. :tongue_smilie:
ThatCyndiGirl
Yea, honestly, I DO prefer these types of inappropriate commercials to the scary ones! The scary ones can stick with a kid forever, whereas these they will likely forget about since it is so over-their-head, but still!

AuntieM
Oh my, that is spew-on-the-screen material! I for one am sooooooooo sooooooooo sick of all the ED ads. ThatCyndiGirl
Me too. gardening momma
1. We don't watch TV before the kids go to bed (they watch stuff on Sprout or Nick Jr. off and on throughout the day, but no commercials). 2. All of what we watch is what we've recorded on the DVR, so we always fast forward through commercials. I have no idea what commercials there are nowadays anyway. Except for the Old Spice Guy. We watch those. :001_smile:
TN Mama
I am with you on that! I haven't seen the commerical that you're referring to, but :001_huh: I'm glad for the head's up. The Cialis/Viagra commercials are ridiculous. Really, all of the pharm advertising bothers me. Another completely inappropriate commercial - any by GoDaddy. Ugh. When I had cable, I taped several history channel shows that were on late at night. With mixed gender teens in the house and these ads on all through the afternoon and evening news, enough is enough. These are the ones that just drive me absolutely batty. So much so that I can't help making derogatory comments everytime one comes on. You just know that this had to be developed by a man. Granted there are some women that are not getting enough and there are some men that have difficulties in this department but I just don't think that there are a ton of women sitting around saying, "You know what I really need? A 36 hour erection!" Robin Williams does a few skits on this subject and they are hilarious.

Murphy101
Oh my. I don't think I am a prude either, but it's just not appropriate to flat out gross. So much for watching tv while eating. I have no idea how anyone keeps their appitite after most commercials. Between ED, incontinence, periods and yeast infections, and foot fungus, and the horror previews - I have no idea how people are in the mood for food or tea. You would think we would be a nation of skinny virgins. We netflix almost everything. No commercials at all and I can watch whenever I feel like it. LOVE netflix. Imprimis
Oh, don't even get me started...I am so disgusted by the garbage children are continually exposed to today. Not only in commercials, but plastered on the front of magazines in the check-out lane of every grocery store, blaring from most radio stations--I feel like I'm listening in on a 900 number call when hearing some of the banter between the djs of our local stations. And, Sirius/XM radio? Some of the radio hosts are beyond vulgar on certain channels. Even walking through a department store, we've had to overhear the "private" conversations of cell phone users. What is wrong with people? It seems even if you try to limit your children's exposure to content that is adult-oriented, you are thwarted every time you turn around. There just appears to be a rapid erosion of respect for children in our society. Makes me angry and sad... Actually, there's just a lack of respect, period. But, it makes me especially angry because it's becoming increasingly more difficult to allow children to remain children.
MorganClassicalPrep
We generally don't watch anything except Disney channel, so no worries about those kinds of commercials. The ones that get me the most are the animal shelter ones. Playing the sad music, showing all the sad animals... DD will be hysterical by the end of the commercial if I don't catch it and turn it before she realizes what it is.

FaithManor
I played the youtube of this commercial to dh. He spewed coffee out his nose and onto his laptop! His ears turned red....very, very cute. But, the commercial that used to drive me INSANE was the one that was on, years and years ago (very longs time) in which the mother and the daughter discussed their favorite d**che. Seriously! Who are they kidding??? I'd have never discussed that with my mom. Oh and there was a meadow of wildflowers and whatnot...true idiocy. Oh, and my dad mutes every single ED, feminine hygiene, etc. ad when he's watching t.v. We don't have t.v....we don't even own one, no cable, nada. We watch netflix and the movies we own on dvd with a 21" LCD computer monitor. So, I'm dependent on the hive to let me know all about these issues! Seriously! Who are they kidding??? I'd have never discussed that with my mom. Oh and there was a meadow of wildflowers and whatnot...true idiocy. No, they'd be walking along the shore somewhere. And then.... "Mom... do you ever get that not so fresh feeling?" AAAK! My mom hated those ads and used them as an opportunity to rant against the product mentioned. But, yeah, I rarely see those feminine hygiene ads anymore. When I was a teenager, there were SO MANY for tampons that compared pads to diapers. And featured the mysterious blue substance to prove their absorbancy. Frankly my kids are overwhelmed. Their favorite (?) appears to be the one mentioning "leaky pipes." But they also love the one for that nasal spray that looks like a construction zone. I have just told them that drug companies are trying to sell adults a lot of medicines. The Levitra/Viagra/herpes medicines ones generally go over their head, but they get on my nerves. "Ask your doctor if you are healthy enough for sexual activity." Adults lying in separate bathtubs -- that's your problem right there, people. My kids started screeching the other day when they saw an ad for Depends Underpants. I don't think they understood what they were, they were just so startled to hear an adult on TV talking about underpants.
