  1. My son's crossbite was also corrected with the palate expander. His permanent teeth are coming in nicely. We are just waiting on the eyeteeth to come in, but x-rays predict a good result with those too. We're going to wait on those before deciding on phase 2.
  2. Is there a book, written by anyone, like this? Of course, I'd love SWB's version, and loved her audio lecture on teaching writing to middle schoolers. I've read and re-read the section in WTM about teaching writing but I feel like I could use just a bit more direction. My 7th grader does well with his writing integrated with his history and science or literature reading. He doesn't balk at writing summaries from his reading. He's been doing one-level outlines from Kingfisher history for a year. This year, we're starting two-level outlines and re-writing using the outline.
  3. We haven't gotten our group health/company plan info yet. This is through a Fortune 500 company, a very well-known name. My husband called and got this answer: "we don't have info to give to you." He did find out that our open enrollment is November this year, but there was neither a letter sent about that nor any notice on their benefits website about the date. I think that is bizarre, considering everything this year. Our insurance premiums have gone up about 400% in the past 15 years, so we're not getting our plan cheaply though I know now that it is just slightly less than the state marketplace will be offering.
  4. I've noticed my curls are thin and limp if I've over-conditioned during the co-wash. Or co-washed too many days in a row. Or left too much leave-in conditioner. I started over with a sulfate shampoo or baking soda/apple cider vinegar wash. Naturallycurly website has good info. I can't remember for sure, but some curls like proteins and some don't. Maybe your hair is reacting to something like that.
  5. I had trouble with the new groups format for several days, and it seems to be working for me now. The problems with Neo Groups are many (not loading, unable to reply or post new messages, missing files, moderator issues). I found a yahoo message board with many complaints and and no solutions. I didn't do anything to fix mine, but my groups are working now.
  6. Have you tried using more soap? When you do, rinse well, maybe twice. I think stink means something isn't getting clean. I used Country Save detergent (recommended amount, using the scoop provided) plus Oxyclean Free (half of the scoop provided) on my diapers. Sometimes, I added Biokleen Bac-Out into the wash water or directly on a stain. Once a month, I used bleach and detergent. I switched to flats, which I ended up really loving, when I had some laundering issues. Good luck.
  7. My suggestions -- --Skip the newborn prefolds since your babies are already in the 8 pound range. I used flats :001_wub: so don't really know about prefold sizing beyond that. -- Get a one-size fitted like Mother-Ease One-Size or get MotherEase Sandys (I think smalls fit through 18 pounds). I love wool covers with fitteds! --Get one-size covers like Flips. Or a two-size like Thirsties Duo. Since you have bigger-than-average newborns, you don't need newborn covers. Getting a one-size cover will allow you to get 5-6 covers rather than 2 or 3 per size. It is nice to have more covers. -- I loved DiaperPin forums! Have fun!
  8. Yes, I've done this with FuzziBunz. After awhile, I cut the fleece out.
  9. I've typed out an answer twice already only to be timed out. So this time I'll just give you a link to my blog with what I did ... flannel-fitteds and flats. (This third time worked, so I'm editing for a few more details. Sewing prefolds-into-fitteds was really, really hard. The idea I linked to is so much easier. My absolute favorite diaper system is flats plus Flips covers. Good luck!)
  10. Our eye doctor saw my daughter with symptoms like that and said that most cases are viral. She said to just wait it out, unless we saw it getting worse. She said most kids are getting unnecessary antibiotics for pink eye. I don't worry about it anymore. :)
  11. Angie who blogs at youlookfab.com is in her early 40s. It is a fabulous blog and forum.
  12. I am sorry for the new pay cuts. It is hard. My husband lost 30% of his income 4 years ago. He is still in the same job (17 years in) and makes what he made in 1998. That's real dollars. His production for this company (a major, nationally known company) has tripled sales in our area. (I wanted to add that this is the same job, same town, same company so comparisons are truly accurate. Sales are tripled.) Health insurance is at least 4 times what it was then. Our family size has tripled since then. He used to have a company car but now just a token car reimbursement for a personally owned vehicle that doesn't cover the true costs. We've borrowed from the 401(k) because we cannot even take our money out even if we wanted to pay the penalty and taxes (which we would have done if we could). We are only making it because DH has a second job now. I guess I'm just writing this to say I'm sorry for the rough stuff that paycuts cause, and that many of us in private sector jobs really do understand, having lived this already.
  13. My breastfeeding daughter was sensitive to milk protein and soy protein in my diet. It took 6 weeks of my elimination diet to see her totally improve. I saw small steps of improvement in the first week or two and that kept me going. Eliminating beef (that cow protein) also was a piece of the puzzle for us. My pediatrician said that half of the infants who are sensitive to dairy are also sensitive to soy, so that that is a good reason to stick with breastfeeding. Foremilk/hindmilk was also an issue. Have you read info on that at kellymom.com? I hope your little one feels better soon.
  14. Are they called lap pads? I don't remember any that were crib-sized though ... maybe like 18" by 12".
  15. The washer and dryer are good places to hide things quickly. I don't think those are very likely places that buyers will look. I do think they open ovens and dishwashers. You could also pack daily clutter into laundry baskets that you take in the car with you when you have to leave in a hurry.
