Jenny in Florida
. . . "I'm all done," but there are a couple of small wrinkles.  Here's what I think we're doing:  Math: Florida Virtual School Geometry Science: FLVS Earth-Space Science, plus Thames & Kosmos kits English: Literary Lessons from the Lord of the Rings with extra reading, Painless Grammar, Book of Great Books readings Spanish: The Learnables Greek/Latin: Hey Andrew, Latin’s Not So Tough History: Houghton Mifflin Across the Centuries, Parragon Atlas of World History, History’s Greatest Hits. four Learning Through History magazines, Cathedral, Forge and Waterwheel, The Age of Shakespeare and some historical fiction Art History: Annotated Mona Lisa (appropriate sections), selections from History of Art (Gowing)  The wrinkles have to do with my concern that we may not be able to get him into the two FLVS courses. There's been a lot of stuff in the news lately suggesting that FLVS is swamped and is being used by some school districts to take up the slack caused by budget cuts. So, while we're forging ahead on the assumption that it will be okay, we've also identified the back-up plan(s).  Math: MUS Geometry, probably supplemented with Life o Fred Science: University of California College Prep open access Biology with a series of labs similar to the ones I did for his big sister a few years ago.  Everything except the science kits/lab supplies and the alternate math if we should need it has been purchased and is sitting on my shelves. I've started some basic planning, but decided to set it aside until I have more time over the summer.

Guest aquiverfull
This is a fun thread! :) I posted that I'm still sorting it out. Here's what I have so far. Â dd (10) 5th grade: Geography -MFW ECC Science- Apologia Elementary Botany and I also have an old BJU 5 science book (we might use parts of it) Reading -continue working on BJU 5 and some whole books thrown in Spelling- Megawords Grammar - still deciding but thinking: CLE LA or BJU English Writing- Writing Tales 1 Math- undecided CLE or BJU possibly Bible- still looking Latin- Lively Latin That's all I can remember right now. I think that's it. Â Preschool play for 3 & 4 yr old: I'm putting together some fun activities for them to do. File Folder games, sorting, pattern blocks, etc. I also may start teaching 4 yr old dd to read using AAS. Academy of Jedi Arts
I pretty much just started. Â I know we are sticking with TT for math this year. Dd insists on that. Â We are also sticking with Lively Latin. Â We are almost sure we're going to do TRISMS. It incorporates IEW, which we already use and love. I can always beef up the lit studies if I feel dd isn't getting enough on that end. Â Dd wants an anatomy course, so we'll get her one. She's also going to to Plato Physical Science "just for fun". Â I am trying to decide between Analytical Grammar and MCT grammar. I'm also considering using the poetry stuff from MCT. Â Dd says she doesn't want to do Spellwell again. I think she just gets tired of the format after a whole year with spelling. She and I have been looking at different options, but nothing has captured her fancy yet. Â She wants a vocab program- I'm thinking Wordly Wise perhaps. Â I really want to put her in an art class rather than trying to do that here. But between piano, dance, swimming, soccer, and life, we may just flat out not have time.
Greta
I know the basic idea, but haven't worked out all the details yet. I'm in the process of changing to a more CM-type approach (looking at AO), and I want to buy the second edition of LCC, too. So several things are still up in the air, pending those decisions. Â But I know we'll be sticking with RightStart for math, because that is one curriculum that has always worked beautifully for us. Â We'll finish the Latin Prep book that we have, but then will probably switch to Cambridge. Â I'm buying Pictures in Cursive and Language Lessons from Queen's homeschool. Â More nature study, more narration, copywork, and dictation. More literature and living books. That's all I know at this point.
tinkgumby
I voted Still sorting it out, but really I have a pretty good grasp on what we'll be doing, and already have most of it on hand - and most of it is just another level up from what we're doing now! Â - Sonlight Core 2 - Writing with Excellence - First Language Lessons - All About Spelling - handwriting - I may change from this; my son hit the cursive part of Rod and Staff and is having major issues. I think he needs something with more specific stroke-by-stroke instructions or something. - SRA Real Math 2 and 3 - SOTW - Science pulled from various books and kits . . . and other fun stuff as we see fit. :D

Avila
I voted that I am confident, but as I am typing this, I realize that I am not completely confident. Aargh. I bought CW and am trying hard to convince myself to really do it for my 5th grader. I have R&S English and Spelling for my 3rd grader, but I am not sure if I am going to place her in 2 or 3, and I still need to do the placement test for her for WWE. Oh, and I am still looking at catalogs, although I am more ruling out at this point. I think I need a support group.  5th Grammar: Rod & Staff 5 Writing: Big oops. Vocabulary: Wordly Wise 3000 book 6 Spelling: CHC speller F Math: Saxon 65 Science: Apologia Zoology 1 FL: Latina Christiana 1 (finally going to really do this) History: History Odyssey Ancients 2 (plus lots of add-ins, making this take some of this year and all of next to finish) Art: Seton Art 5 Religion: Faith and Life 5 and Bible History Plus Typing Instructor, Swim team, piano lessons, Little Flowers and maybe a part-time co-op  3rd Grammar: Rod & Staff 2 or 3 Writing: WWE 1 or 2 and CLE Cursive book Phonics: Little Angels (finishing finally) Spelling: Rod and Staff 2 or 3 (really wanted AAS but ran out of $$) Math: Abeka 3 Science: Apologia Zoology 1 History: Sonlight Core 1 (plus lots of add-ins, making this take some of this year and all of next to finish) Art: Seton Art 1 book with her sister Religion: Faith and Life 3 and Bible History Plus YMCA homeschool PE, piano lessons, speech therapy, Little Flowers and maybe a part-time co-op  1st Grammar: FLL 1/2 Writing: WWE 1 Phonics: Little Angels and OPGTR Math: Abeka 1 and Singapore 1B Science: Apologia Zoology 1 History: Sonlight Core 1 (plus lots of add-ins, making this take some of this year and all of next to finish) Art: Seton Art 1 book with her sister Religion: Faith and Life 1 and Bible History Plus YMCA homeschool PE, ballet, Little Flowers and maybe a part-time co-op Edited April 17, 2009 by Asenik

dragons in the flower bed
This is a fun thread! :) Â I know, isn't it? I am totally fascinated, reading through it. You wanna know my secret motive? If I can compare everyone else's lists with mine and not want to change anything, I know I'm done planning. King Alfred Academy
I voted "confident and done planning". I am confident and know what we are going to be using/doing next year...and that feels sooooooo good! BUT...I still have some planning to do as I am going more of a unit study route with history and science. So...I must still plan those out. But I really like doing that part. :001_smile:
Jenny in Florida
I can compare everyone else's lists with mine and not want to change anything, I know I'm done planning. Â I was thinking something like that, that I knew I'd made good decisions because I wasn't feeling wistful reading what others are planning. Â Assuming I don't blow my stack and enroll my son is school before then (it's been a tough week), I think next year will be good.

Oh goodness, a rough time at home, too, Jenny? I keep seeing your posts in threads here and there and thinking that you're one of the best posters and it would stink if you left. Hang in there. All things pass.

Caroline4kids
I tend to change things mid stream. :tongue_smilie: The only sure things are copy work, dictation, narration, artist study, composer study, Simply Music piano, and reading independently and aloud.  Here is what I am planning so far:  Language Arts: Queen's Languages Lessons--everyone Daily Grammar Practice--everyone Spelling Wisdom or Simply Spelling, differs per child  History: Sonlight Core 5 and 1+2 until completed, then core 4 with everyone  ..constantly being tempted by Ambleside. LBC or MFW I would just like to see how I like them. Alas, I cannot afford to it.  Science: Apologia General Science with notebooking for ds 11 Narrating from The Handbook of Nature Study for ds 10 Christian Liberty Nature readers for ds 8  Latin: First Form Latin and Prima Latina for ds 7 until finished  The Arts: Paintings to Study Simply Music Composer Study
