  1. I haven't used Video Text Geometry yet. I just bought the first 3 modules for next year. We are finishing up Video Text Algebra now. My understanding is that the Algebra (if you finish all the modules) includes some Calculus. The Geometry is Geometry and Trig for two full credits. I'm assuming the first 3 are geometry and the last 3 are trig. My understanding of a typical Pre Calculus course is that it includes some calculus and some trig. I too would love to hear some other input on this. Janis in DE
  2. We have been doing TOG for 6 years. Next year will be our first with Rhetoric. I plan to do R for Literature and D for History. Ease us both into Rhetoric. We will be doing Year 4. I'm a little intimidated too, but plan to learn right along with my daughter. Of course, I don't have younger ones tagging along. (only my grandchildren 3 days a week) I do plan to read as many of the books that I can over the summer. I've been doing this for a few years. The one thing I love about TOG is the discussion outlines. Without this I would be lost at teaching Literature. Janis in DE
  3. Thanks Lori, that is what I thought. I'm looking at this group for a French class and the fact that they were considering Jacob's as two high school credits had me concerned about their program as a whole. Janis in DE
  4. Is this a complete Algebra I and II program? Does this count as both for high school credit. I'm just curious. We do Video Text, but a local homeschool group does Jacob's for high school Algebra I & II. Janis in DE
  5. TOG is chronological. It takes a little leadway in this some weeks. It will sometimes group a topic together. I'm at the end of year 2 and we will spend 3 weeks on the Revolutionary War then move on and maybe pick up on a couple of things that happened at the same time as the War. This is more common with the younger children. The older students usually read about it at the same time so that they can connect the world events at the time of the war. I hope this helps. Janis in DE TOG user for 5 years and counting.
  6. This is what we do for 7th grade Video Text Algebra 5 days a week (sometimes we skip a day because she is ahead in math) Bible- Character study 3 days a week Science- Apologia Physical Science 5 days a week TOG - Geography on Friday Timeline on Thursday Literature-reads every day does Literature worksheet on Thursday History- reads and answers questions usually spread over 4 days Writing- 4 days a week. Currently working on 6 page report and doing research. Church History is included in our other history reading Tell Me More French- 30mins. 5 times a week We did Analytical Grammar earlier in the year, but this is done now except for review on day every other week. She does tennis lessons 3 times a week and match on Saturday We do a TOG co-op every other Thursday Where they do discussion, hands on activity and art. Janis in DE
  7. I don't think it is overwhelming, but I do all my planning over the summer. It might help if you could see it in person. Maybe someone near you uses it and you could see it in person. I know I turned some people onto TOG by showing it to them. Janis in DE
  8. This is what I use with my daughter fro 7th Video Text Algebra TOG 2 (History, Literature, Writing, Church History, Geography) Analytical Grammar (Season 2) Apologia Physical Science Tell Me More French Character Bible Study (3X a week) Word Roots CD (2X a week) Tennis (3X a week)
  9. We used Saxon beginning with 1 all the way through 76. We then switched to Video Text Algebra for upper level math. Really just because my daughter wanted something different and I wanted something that taught Geometry seperate. I have just begun my grandaughter, who is 4, with Saxon K. I like the completness of Saxon. I don't follow the script with the younger levels and skip what I feel they know well. Janis in DE
  10. This is our 5th year with TOG. We are on Year 2. We've used Classic and Redesign. My daughter is in 7th. It is our second year in Dialectic. Janis in DE
  11. My daughter went from Tae Kwon Do to tennis about 1 1/2 years ago when she was 11. She loves tennis. If there is an indoor tennis club near you, you can do tennis year around. She did tournaments this summer and played on a team tennis team. It is a great sport for homeschoolers. Janis in DE
  12. Hi Chonta, I just posted to your question about scheduling Video Text. My daughter started in 6th last year too. I couldn't see spending the money on a pre-algebra program and then buying Video Text which included pre-algebra. We are just taking it slow, 2 modules a year. Which will put her finishing algebra II in 8th. We can slow it down even more if she gets stuck and finish in 9th. We've not had any problems yet. We are 3/4 of the way through B. I tried to throw in some Life of Fred last year to slow her down some, but she didn't like it. Janis in DE
  13. We started Video Text last year in 6th grade. My plan was to do 2 Modules a year since she was so young. After doing Module A I tried to do some Life of Fred for a change of pace. She hated it so back to Video Text. We got through most of Module B. We have started this year, by reviewing the Videos. We watch the video together then she does the odd problems. If she has it down pat she does the quiz the next day. If she needs more work she does the even problems then the quiz. We are taking our time and will complete when she has it mastered.
  14. I did spelling at that age with my daughter but we used letter tiles to spell the words. She really liked that. Much better than trying to write them out. Janis in DE
  15. We did General Science last year and will be doing Physical Science this year. It really was our first year at doing a text book with test like Apologia. After spending about 15 mins. going over the study guide my daughter said she was ready for the first test. I knew better, but let her take it. She flunked it. I then talked to her about how to study for a test. After this she would spend a couple of days going over the study guide and then I would quiz her. Sometimes she would have to study more if I didn't think she was ready for the test. We used the lesson plans from Donna Young and spent about two weeks on each module. She really liked the program and learned a lot. Janis in DE
