I thought I had the big things chosen. Then I started looking at history curriculums. The end.

LOOOOL I know exactly how you feel. Every year it seems I have all different curriculum from the year before. Does this ever end?? :D ;)

I still have some things left to buy, but I have most of my curriculum already.

I'm doing Singapore for math

Let's see:

We'll be sticking with a fair amount of stuff: Saxon, R&S English, WWE, Phonics Pathways, Building Thinking Skills, and Latin for Children.

New this year will be Imitations in Writing Aesop & Poetry Primer, RS4K Level 1, and Mystery of History. We'll be adding in Mind Benders & Red Herrings.

At some point I'll need to figure out spelling, but we've got 21 lessons left in our current Spelling Skills workbooks so I'm not in a hurry.

I voted 'done planning' and I am for the most part. Still have tweaking and scheduling to do on a couple of areas.

For the most part here is what we have going:

Bible- Golden Bible (w/ MP Intro to Classical Studies)

math - Abeka 2 thru 1/2 of 3

latin- prima latina

writing - CW Aesop A

Then alternating through the week:

(Mon.) Nature Study and Little Annie's Art Book of Etiquette & Good Manners

(Tues) Greek Myths (w/ MP Intro to Classical Studies) and Creativity Express (computer art program)

(Wed.) Famous Men of Rome (w/ MP Intro to Classical Studies)and The Great Composers

(Th) Nesbit's Shakespeare (and Shakespeare coloring books and paper dolls) and Music Ace

(Friday)Different Devo books, Blue Fairie Book and Guerber Story of 13 Colonies and Story of the Great Republic with readers, map work, narration, timeline.

Plus lots of good literature every day.

8th Grade

math - BJU Pre-Alg

Greek: Greek in 30 Minutes a Day

English: CW Diogenes, 2nd 1/2 of R&S 6, Kolbe literature, PP Screwtape Letters

science: PH Physical Science

History: Hakim w/ SL 100 notes, test and project ideas from Hewit (plus extra books (fiction and non-fiction)

projects: Practical Graphic Designing, Stop Motion Animation, TwigJig

Philosophy (still picking between my books)

PE: weight machine, treadmill, speed bag, trampoline, bike riding

10th Grade:

It all looks so cut and dry...but it's NOT!

It sure does make me feel better to write it all down though.

. . . "I'm all done," but there are a couple of small wrinkles.

Here's what I think we're doing:

Math: Florida Virtual School Geometry

Science: FLVS Earth-Space Science, plus Thames & Kosmos kits

English: Literary Lessons from the Lord of the Rings with extra reading, Painless Grammar, Book of Great Books readings

Spanish: The Learnables

Greek/Latin: Hey Andrew, Latin’s Not So Tough

History: Houghton Mifflin Across the Centuries, Parragon Atlas of World History, History’s Greatest Hits. four Learning Through History magazines, Cathedral, Forge and Waterwheel, The Age of Shakespeare and some historical fiction

Art History: Annotated Mona Lisa (appropriate sections), selections from History of Art (Gowing)

The wrinkles have to do with my concern that we may not be able to get him into the two FLVS courses. There's been a lot of stuff in the news lately suggesting that FLVS is swamped and is being used by some school districts to take up the slack caused by budget cuts. So, while we're forging ahead on the assumption that it will be okay, we've also identified the back-up plan(s).

Math: MUS Geometry, probably supplemented with Life o Fred

Science: University of California College Prep open access Biology with a series of labs similar to the ones I did for his big sister a few years ago.

Everything except the science kits/lab supplies and the alternate math if we should need it has been purchased and is sitting on my shelves. I've started some basic planning, but decided to set it aside until I have more time over the summer.

This is a fun thread! :)

I posted that I'm still sorting it out. Here's what I have so far.

dd (10) 5th grade:

Geography -MFW ECC

Science- Apologia Elementary Botany and I also have an old BJU 5 science book (we might use parts of it)

Reading -continue working on BJU 5 and some whole books thrown in

Spelling- Megawords

Grammar - still deciding but thinking: CLE LA or BJU English

Writing- Writing Tales 1

Math- undecided CLE or BJU possibly

Bible- still looking

Latin- Lively Latin

That's all I can remember right now. I think that's it.

Preschool play for 3 & 4 yr old:

I'm putting together some fun activities for them to do. File Folder games, sorting, pattern blocks, etc.

I also may start teaching 4 yr old dd to read using AAS.

I pretty much just started.

I know we are sticking with TT for math this year. Dd insists on that.

We are also sticking with Lively Latin.

We are almost sure we're going to do TRISMS. It incorporates IEW, which we already use and love. I can always beef up the lit studies if I feel dd isn't getting enough on that end.

Dd wants an anatomy course, so we'll get her one. She's also going to to Plato Physical Science "just for fun".

I am trying to decide between Analytical Grammar and MCT grammar. I'm also considering using the poetry stuff from MCT.

Dd says she doesn't want to do Spellwell again. I think she just gets tired of the format after a whole year with spelling. She and I have been looking at different options, but nothing has captured her fancy yet.

She wants a vocab program- I'm thinking Wordly Wise perhaps.

I really want to put her in an art class rather than trying to do that here. But between piano, dance, swimming, soccer, and life, we may just flat out not have time.

I know the basic idea, but haven't worked out all the details yet. I'm in the process of changing to a more CM-type approach (looking at AO), and I want to buy the second edition of LCC, too. So several things are still up in the air, pending those decisions.

But I know we'll be sticking with RightStart for math, because that is one curriculum that has always worked beautifully for us.

We'll finish the Latin Prep book that we have, but then will probably switch to Cambridge.

I'm buying Pictures in Cursive and Language Lessons from Queen's homeschool.

More nature study, more narration, copywork, and dictation. More literature and living books. That's all I know at this point.

I voted Still sorting it out, but really I have a pretty good grasp on what we'll be doing, and already have most of it on hand - and most of it is just another level up from what we're doing now!

- Sonlight Core 2

- Writing with Excellence

- First Language Lessons

- All About Spelling

- handwriting - I may change from this; my son hit the cursive part of Rod and Staff and is having major issues. I think he needs something with more specific stroke-by-stroke instructions or something.

- SRA Real Math 2 and 3

- SOTW

- Science pulled from various books and kits

. . . and other fun stuff as we see fit. :D

I voted that I am confident, but as I am typing this, I realize that I am not completely confident. Aargh. I bought CW and am trying hard to convince myself to really do it for my 5th grader. I have R&S English and Spelling for my 3rd grader, but I am not sure if I am going to place her in 2 or 3, and I still need to do the placement test for her for WWE. Oh, and I am still looking at catalogs, although I am more ruling out at this point. I think I need a support group.

SO,

For my rising 6th grader:

Henle, starting in Unit 4

LCC for her grade, except starting with Rome right now, and continuing into Greece...if we can chug along.

Memory Work out of Drew's book.

Classical Conversations for Interaction, further memory work and Writing.

SOTW Volume 1, (She listens to the Cds...over and over...in her free time)

Supplementary Ancient History books, for her extra reading.

Lial's Math, with some Living Math lessons, that correspond to SOTW Volume 1, (I hope...)

Science, I'll give her books on her own, for her free time reading in the afternoons....(Free for me, I guess:-)

Spelling, just the list from the back of the WRTR

My rising 6 year old,

Tag along for the above,

phonics with WRTR

Classical Conversations,

listening to some of SOTW I (As soon as I make sure it's ok for him)

Cursive First, for writing phonograms

Abacas lessons (through Nurture Minds)

Lots of reading books.... (hopefully "living" books)

Carrie

I can compare everyone else's lists with mine and not want to change anything, I know I'm done planning.

I was thinking something like that, that I knew I'd made good decisions because I wasn't feeling wistful reading what others are planning.

Assuming I don't blow my stack and enroll my son is school before then (it's been a tough week), I think next year will be good.

Oh goodness, a rough time at home, too, Jenny? I keep seeing your posts in threads here and there and thinking that you're one of the best posters and it would stink if you left. Hang in there. All things pass.

In reading through all the posts I've already run across some new items...not good, not good at all! :tongue_smilie:

Well, here is my plan as it stands, but it's still in tweak mode:

12 yo son:

History/Literature/Geography/Worldview: TOG Y2

Bible: Positive Action

Math: BJU Math 7 or CLE 7

Science: BJU Life Science w/DVD

English: BJU 7 w/DVD

Reading: CLE 7

Writing: CW Older Beginner or IEW History-based

Spelling: Sequential

Latin: The Great Latin Adventure Levels I & II

Greek: Greek Alphabet Code Breaker and then ???

I've got all of my things picked out, but I still have to purchase the next levels of Right Start and AAS.

Becca:

Grammar: First Language Lessons 3

Writing: (penmanship included) Writing With Ease 1 (we may go through this very quickly, I don't know)

Spelling: All About Spelling 3

Math: Right Start B

Science: R.E.A.L. Science Earth/Space

History: SOTW 2/History Odyssey Middle Ages Level 1 (this may start "late" as we're taking our time with SOTW 1/HO Ancients 1)

Latin: Minimus and extra readers

Geography: The Geography Book by Caroline Arnold

Art: Harmony Fine Arts Grade 2

And we're constantly reading here, so tons of that - I'm wanting to work through the Lang Fairy books.

Extras - choir and gymnastics, possibly another sport - I may just keep it simple though.

With Sylvia, I'm winging it. :001_huh: We'll keep progressing at her pace through ETC, Singapore EB, and BOB books.

I tend to change things mid stream. :tongue_smilie: The only sure things are copy work, dictation, narration, artist study, composer study, Simply Music piano, and reading independently and aloud.

Here is what I am planning so far:

Language Arts:

Queen's Languages Lessons--everyone

Daily Grammar Practice--everyone

Spelling Wisdom or Simply Spelling, differs per child

History:

Sonlight Core 5 and 1+2 until completed, then core 4 with everyone

..constantly being tempted by Ambleside. LBC or MFW I would just like to see how I like them. Alas, I cannot afford to it.

Science:

Apologia General Science with notebooking for ds 11

Narrating from The Handbook of Nature Study for ds 10

Christian Liberty Nature readers for ds 8

Latin:

First Form Latin and Prima Latina for ds 7 until finished

The Arts:

Paintings to Study

Simply Music

Composer Study
