OnTheBrink
We have not gone "big shopping" in months, and we were out of everything. Here's what I brought home: 3 lbs ground sirloin 3 lb beef roast 10 lbs chicken breast 2 lbs bacon 1 container hummus bananas grapes lemons cukes summer squash zucchini bunch of basil bunch of mint bunch of cilantro tomatoes green onions carrots broccoli red onion baby potatoes container of baby greens container of romaine and baby spinach mixed 18 eggs large container of greek yogurt small container of sour cream large container of cream cheese frozen strawberries (large bag) frozen mixed berries (large bag) 2 cans pineapple 2 cans sliced peaches 1 can sliced pears 1 can black olives 1 can sliced green olives 1 bottle A1 1 bottle bbq sauce 1/2 gallon OJ (on sale for half off) 1/2 gallon skim milk 1/2 gallon chocolate almond milk (my special treat!) 5 gallons spring water 4 2-liters of generic soda taco seasoning packet zesty Italian seasoning packet garlic and herb seasoning packet 2 bags frozen ravioli 1 bag frozen orange chicken (impulse item!) 2 tubes pizza dough 1 packet pepperoni 3 12 oz bags shredded cheese 1 loaf ww bread 1 bag of bagels (on clearance) 1 package pita bread 1 package tortillas 3 boxes of cereal 2 cans refried beans 1 jar sliced banana peppers 1 carton ice cream 1 bag store brand salt and vinegar chips 1 bag store brand tortilla chips 1 bag store brand bbq chips 1 bag store brand pretzels 1 bag veggie straw snacks 2 boxes fiber one bars (for snacking at work) 1 2-roll package of paper towels 1 20-roll package of TP 1 120 count box of trash bags 1 80 count box of gallon zip lock bags 1 bottle bodywash 1 bottle shampoo 1 box Avengers fruit snacks (don't even ask) 1 bag hershey kisses 20 lb jug of cat litter gallon container with spigot for flavored water in the fridge small blender to make smoothies (my ds absconded with my blender!) Anyone care to take a stab at the bill for all this? I shopped at Meijer, if that helps. I will say that this list would be fairly typical of a "big shopping" trip for us, sans the blender and gallon container. I think my bill was about 1/3 more than what I've paid in the past. Mandylubug
I stopped tallying at 100 estimated in groceries.. 300? eta: I say that only because you didn't say how much of all your fresh produce and like for us we eat 3 large bunches of bananas a week, 3 cartons of strawberries, three bags of grapes, etc... and I just spent 180 this week :/

Mommyof4ks
I was going to say around 300 too, but I have no idea the prices at Mejer. We do not have that chain. If it is a more expensive store like Alberstons is, then my guess is $400.
JudoMom
My guess is $500. And Avengers fruit snacks...really  ?!
BarbecueMom
$317.47. Although my first guess was about $800 because the way the list showed up in mobile, it looked like "the fridge" was something you actually bought. Those tend to drive up the bill a little bit. ;-)
Jennifer in MI
I came in around $300 as well. But, I didn't know about a few things and had to guess. And, we arent' talking organic meat and veggies - right?
OnTheBrink
No organics. Total bill was $345. I about DIED. :svengo:
Rose in BC
Groceries are killer. I just spent $300 today too. And I know I will be back at store next week. (And we have a side of beef in freezer. My $300 included a package of chicken thighs and breasts.)

Scarlett
No organics. Total bill was $345. I about DIED. :svengo: Hey that was a fun game. I was $65 under. Yeah I went today also...ugh.
LucyStoner
That's $400ish easily here if I guess you are buying the produce in quantities for a small family, a bit less if you were shopping to many sales and went to several stores. Eta- I also missed the blender. So my number is low.
bolt.
In my area that would be around 475 (cdn).
Upward Journey
In my area that would be around 475 (cdn). Yes. I was going to guess $500.
bolt.
Yes. I was going to guess $500. I didn't see the blender. $500 is right.
Dandelion
I guessed $327 before looking at your update. It adds up when you haven't gone shopping in awhile. Does it help to consider that you saved on gas by not going more frequently? :tongue_smilie:
Jennifer in MI
Totally skipped the blender!!! I think you got a deal!!!'
Flowing Brook
My guess was about 300-350. Now for the second part of the game. How long will these groceries last? Unfortunately at least in my house not long enough.
bolt.
My guess is that while many of those items will be permanent (blender) or last 2 or 3 months (paper goods, sauces, frozen items etc.)... the meat and most of the dry/canned goods will be gone in 2 or 3 weeks, and the produce and dairy will be gone in one week (or less). Guest submarines
No organics. Total bill was $345. I about DIED. :svengo: I actually can't say whether you expected it to be more or less. In our Canadian Costco this would be around $500.
Stayseeliz
I went shopping today too. $150 at Aldi, $60 at another store and $170 at Walmart. We were out of EVERYTHING. This should last us awhile though.
LuvToRead
I would have guessed much higher. I spent half that last week just on grocery items.
Kaleidoscope
Groceries are killing me. I have one less person to feed than I did 6 months ago but half the amount of money to spend and it isn't working out too well.
SeaConquest
I don't get out of Whole Foods for less than $400 for a third of that many items. Sounds like a deal.
Farrar
It's the paper goods and shampoo that always gets me. Also, of course, unexpected blender needs. I try to get that stuff at Target or Costco, as they have much better prices than the regular grocery store.
beaners
No organics. Total bill was $345. I about DIED. :svengo: I feel your pain. Our last bill was $285. I don't think I had ever spent that much on regular groceries. I nearly choked when I saw the slip. If my husband hadn't packed half the stuff in the car already, I would have sent him back in. Laura Corin
At least £150, probably more, I would guess. L

Melissa in Australia
I would not even be able to guess at the price. most of the things on the list are not things that I buy.
TheReader
Not including the orange chicken, canned pears, or pizza dough, and subbing regular beans for refried, and pretending I can get 120-ct or 80-ct trash bags or ziplock bags (instead I put in the price for the biggest size/poorest quality I actually can get), my guestimate came out at R$757 which right now at today's exchange rate is US $360. I guessed on some things. this is, however, proof to myself that any shock I'll feel at US grocery prices will be in the "I can't believe how cheap stuff is!" direction, not vice versa, as my dad keeps telling me. (in all honestly, the trash bags I buy are about 50 centavos/bag; I did not put that price into the equation and instead doubled the price of the cheapo bags on a roll that I don't buy 'cause they tear. That comes with 50 bags on the roll and is R$15/US $7-ish. The bags I actually buy are R$5 for 10 bags....)
HomeschoolMamaOfTwo
My guess was $325 before I scrolled down to see your answer. I think I'd faint!
Mom-ninja.
I would have said around $400. You got a lot of stuff and the price was good.
ThisIsTheDay
I haven't read replies (yet), but I'm guessing $320. It's hard to judge though without knowing how much produce and how "big" a big bag of frozen fruit is.
FO4UR
Aldi. I drive 45min to shop Aldi about 1x per month. I fill 2 grocery carts to overflowing and spend about $300. I buy fresh meats & frozen veggies mostly. Very little canned/boxed. I hit Walmart (I hate walmart, but...) at least 1x per month for things I can't find at Aldi. Then I shop local for the rest. I still end up spending a crazy amount on groceries, but it's much less than shopping a main chain weekly for certain.
