I am also going to start a 1st grade thread...;)

Here's what we're thinking...

Math: Singapore 4A and 4B (IP and CWP), LOF Decimals

Writing: WWE3/4 and maybe Write Source (Angela at SatoriSmiles has piqued my interest in this..) Continue Kilgallon.

Latin: LfCA

Italian: Italian Now! by Barron's

Spelling: Spelling Power

History: SOTW 3/4

Grammar: GWG 5 (or I might decide that Latin is enough...let go..let go...let go....;))

Science: self-designed curriculum using Core Knowledge guidelines

Geography: I don't know! We'd like to study this more formally but don't want anything overwhelming...

Logic: suggestions welcome.

Art: Dad does art projects with them weekly; read various art books and do lapbooks on artists

Music: piano lessons, Stories of the Great Composers

I should probably start thinking about this (poor neglected tail-end child :D.)

Math - A Beka 4, Singapore (depends on how far he is at the end of the year)

English - R&S 4, Clasically Cursive and/or Pentime, IEW, VP grade 4 lit, Spelling Workout D&E, Pathway Readers or BJUP Reading 4

History - WTM year 2 (to align with older dds' history cycle)

Science - chemistry (ditto) - probably God's Design

Bible - New Testament - reading and discussing and memorizing

Latin - probably my own concoction

Greek - dd teaches him with Elementary Greek

Art class and piano lessons

We also joined a high school co-op that has some classes for younger siblings, so I'm hoping for some Spanish, geography, drawing, etc. for him.

not at all pinned down here. She is my more accelerated child and its so hard planning for her. She has been in Pvt School for 2 & 3, Homeschooled for 1st and PS for Kindy.

Math- Saxon 6/5

the rest is kinda up in the air. I don't know how to shop for her. Saxon was an easy choice because I did the placements tests and I already had it and it fits her well.

She loves to read and she has great comprehension. I have the anne of green gables books and I plan on doing some literature units with her.

I really have no idea what to do with this child. She has to be driven, she has to be challenged but I don't want to surpass her maturity level in the process.

In her current school she is in the gifted program and she is placed with 5th graders for Math & Reading (they wont skip them more than 2 grade levels) otherwise she is with her 3rd grade class.

I know I want to introduce some logic and more fine Arts as well. I feel academically its ok to slow her a bit in some areas and beef up the culture if that makes sense.

Science: R.E.A.L. Science Odyssey Earth and Space beefed up with additional readings

Math: CLE 400

You can see our current 4th grade curric in my siggie but I had a couple suggestions!

Have you seen Seterra for Geography? That's what we're doing (ds likes to play on it in his free time) for geography this year and it's been fun. We have battles and competitions. :D

And for Grammar, you sound JUST like me. We did k12 LA this year and while I love the Grammar & Lit programs through k12, the whole LA package is just overkill. SO. Next year I'm going to try the Exercises in English worktext (the same one k12 uses for their LA) but instead of all the other K12 stuff I've found something that looks FUN and will allow us to continue on with diagramming and parsing sentences. It's called Caught'ya: Grammar with a Giggle and I really think it's going to be a quick and easy way to get Grammar in this year without having too much overlap with our Latin studies.

Just thought I would mention those options for you!!! :)

HTH!

I'm not changing much for my middle child:

math: CLE 5

grammar: R&S 5

writing: WWE 4

spelling: SWO E or she may move to AAS which I'm planning to use for youngest

science: Apologia Anatomy & Botany

history: SOTW Vol. 2, etc.

reading: CLE 4 and reading in Middle Ages time period

memory: IEW poetry memorization lvl. 2

Bible: possibly Explorer's or stay with VP

Spanish: still searching

geography: SOTW maps and ???

extras: 4-H, soccer, swimming, tennis

I'd rather she not be ahead in R&S grammar, so I may switch her to CLE 4. I know she would be very unhappy to have to repeat the same R&S book.

Ugh. This is a harder year to plan because .... well, because.

LA: GWG4, con't SWS 4, con't WWE3, and MCT is in consideration (I am planning on starting it on 1 May, and will have to see how it goes. If it doesn't work, I'll have to think up a literature plan.)

Math: SM 4A and B.

Geo: Down to Earth Geo and continue our map work/reading about other places, etc. If the house sells, I'm planning on sending the boys overseas, poss Australia.

Latin: I cannot get a groove on this. Plan on Getting Started with Latin as soon as we've finished the fun but not very retained Secundus.

Art: con't Atelier. Getting to Know series

Music: Lots of listening and con't Mike Venezia's bios

Logic: con't Logic Countdown and Mind Benders

History: May just do the Usborne/Kingfisher route, and various biographies. Heavy on the map work.

Etc: YMCA gym co-op, cooking lessons, carpentry with Dad.

Science: I'd like to be more eclectic this year and go over all the sciences somewhat. Certainly the more cerebral of chem and physics (we are doing the simpler of both this year), but some sort of biological survey, and a rock/fossil trip. Also, hopefully, a star party.

Continue Kilgallon.

OK, I'm definitely identifying myself as a hopeless geek right now, but I read that the first time as Continue Klingon, and I thought WOW, that is ambitious!

And now I'm wondering if anyone has ever taught Klingon in a homeschool setting?

OK, crawling back into my hole now.

History: Oxford's Medieval and Early Modern World w/ Student study guide

Latin: Lively Latin II

Would you mind linking your history? We are doing Medieval next year so I am looking into resources. Also, do you have LL2? We are doing LL1 and since we started late we will prob do it into 4th grade but I am curious about the second one. Would love to hear thoughts!

Our current plan which is entirely contingent on finishing everything this year:

Math- MM4

Writing- WWE 3 (although I have not seen it but 1 and 2 has worked well) and Writing Strands (maybe)

Spelling- Spelling Workout

Latin-LL1

History- medieval

Grammar-KISS

Art- Mark Kistler online drawing

Not sure about the rest- geography, science, literature, or logic (does that start already!? I saw it on quite a few lists)

He takes piano lessons, Aikido three times a week (PE),once a month book club, and once a week co-op for enrichment. All of this he likes but I am feeling :willy_nilly: about everything. I think it is b/c he is getting older so we need to do more and more so I am always feeling behind. It is hard to believe we are closing in on logic stage!

Great thread! Love hearing all the ideas!:bigear:

Bible: Telling God's Story, Awana

History: SOTW 4 with CHLL

Latin: LC 1

English: Abeka LA, WWE 4, SWO E & F

Math: CLE 4

Science: Elemental Chem & Phys + PBS Zoom projects (co-op)

Art: MTM (co-op)

Other: violin, taekwondo

I don't see handwriting in these lists - are people dropping that or what are you using? Also curious whether you are having them do all (or most) work in cursive now. And what about typing?

I also need to figure out California history and am trying to decide whether to supplement with US geography/history (we did SOTW 3 last year which covered some of that, but in the WTM, she recommends weaving more of that into 4th grade, as it's normally taught that year). Since I'm not doing SOTW 4 with my 2nd grader and K'er, I would include them in this. Any suggestions?

History - WTM year 2 (to align with older dds' history cycle)

Science - chemistry (ditto) - probably God's Design

Bible - New Testament - reading and discussing and memorizing

Latin - probably my own concoction

Greek - dd teaches him with Elementary Greek

Art class and piano lessons

We also joined a high school co-op that has some classes for younger siblings, so I'm hoping for some Spanish, geography, drawing, etc. for him.

I finally ended up with:

A Beka 4 math with misc. problem solving math books and math living books

R&S 4, Classically Cursive and then Pentime, IEW, copywork/dictation, Spelling Workout D&E

Christian Kids Explore Chemistry w/ Usborne Illustrated Encyclopedia of Science

Middle Ages (CLP) with FMMA, FMRR, and list of literature

Latina Christiana (at co-op, with extra memory work at home)

New Testament - reading and discussing and memorizing

Greek

Memory work - poetry, kings, etc.
