  1. We no longer live in what I consider a small house after adding on two years ago, but I sure remember those days of being sandwiched in! Here are some pictures of our home now, which is 1700 square feet (still not huge). I realized I don't have any pictures of our living room ... I'll have to get around to doing that sometime soon. I've really enjoyed seeing everyone else's homes!
  2. I'm trying to get back into the habit of doing this. Ours is up for this week!
  3. We have a small church. Our rule is no one on one. If your class only has one student (which does happen) then you combine with another. If we had to be two deep, we wouldn't have any classes! I know all the teachers well and trust them. All doors have a window and an adult is traveling around during sunday school taking attendance and collecting offering. The middle school class has a man teaching it, but nothing younger. A few men help their wives in the nursery. We have no rule about men teaching little ones, but the men in our church seem unwilling to teach anyone under middle school age.
  4. I didn't vote. My husband prefers medium length. I've never colored my hair, but I talked about it once and he told me not to.
  5. I once knew a family with three boys, whose names were (names changed): James Michael Michael Andrew Andrew Samuel I always thought it was kind of neat as a kid. But, I will admit it's a little strange.
  6. This may be too late, but I burned my hand a few weeks ago and from our online research we found that you should submerse the burn in cold water (not ice!!!) for 30 minutes right after you are burned.
  7. We had 7 of us living in 1200 sq. feet and it was small. We added on and now have a little under 1800 square feet for 8 of us. It has plenty of room for us. It is laid out very well.
  8. I'm 45-50 lbs. overweight right now (I am down 10 lbs in the last month, though ... YAY!). I'm an emotional/stress eater who hates to exercise. If I watch my calories and exercise, I lose weight. ETA: I am hypothyroid, and although I think it does affect my weight gain, I think it is less of an issue than my eating habits and inactivity. Although, after I have my babies, while waiting to get my medication regulated I go hyperthyroid and I lose weight fast. I really wish they would just keep my medicine at that level, LOL.
  9. I'm using Holt's Science and Technology Physical Science next year with my 7th grader. It looks really good to me! The lab book is included in the book, as well, which is nice. It has a lot of physics in it (along with Chemistry). It's also super cheap used on Amazon!! (Although if you plan to do many labs, the cost of lab materials do add up fast).
  10. I'm Shannon. I'm the Mom of 6. We've been homeschooling since the beginning - my oldest is going into 7th grade this year. I'm juggling getting my oldest ready for high school while chasing after an overactive toddler, keeping a preschooler busy, and teaching my three others (rising 2nd, 3rd, and 5th graders). I've learned so much on this site! I rarely post, but have learned a great deal from all of you. My husband is a pastor of a small, rural church which keeps us busy. I enjoy photography and reading. My 18 month old still doesn't sleep through the night, so as a girl who needs her sleep I'm not able to read as much as I would like right now because my brain is in a daze. We keep hoping that he will grow out of that soon!
  11. This. We are planning a trip to Chicago next week. We have a membership to our local science museum, and it gets us into the Museum of Science and Industry, Field Museum, the Adler Planetarium, and the Children's Museum at Navy Pier (and a few others that I don't remember) for free. Ours does have a rule that you can't use with a museum within a certain number of miles of your home museum (90?? maybe), so if you are close to Chicago it might not work for you.
  12. We saw it yesterday afternoon at the IMAX theater. I thought our audience was very subdued. We were there for a 3:30 matinee and I would say the theater was a little under half full.
  13. I'm with everyone else ... I love the name Oliver! BUT, I wouldn't change his name unless dh was on board with it. If he has no problem, then I say go for it!! (By the way, your little guy is simply adorable).
