A few things come to mind that have not been listed yet...

Collecting and trading stickers-if you had a puffy one wth googly eyes-well that was to die for.

Collecting and trading stationery

Candies shoes

Someone thought yellow and brown was an awesome color combination

Drinking a coke with a mouth full of pop rocks to see if you would really die like Mikey

Guachos (ugh, still have nightmares about my denim guacho jumpsuit. I don't know what my mom was thinking)

I was born in 1960, and I have vivid memories of my friends in 5th and 6th grade buying and wearing POW/MIA bracelets for men captured or missing in Vietnam. I wanted to buy one - it seemed a show of support for them. My parents wouldn't let me because they saw it as part of that "hippie anti-war movement."

Yes, I remember most of this and it's just freaky man! lol

I loved Rainbow Brite and Holly Hobbie. I forgot about trading stickers but still remember how uncomfortable but cool jelly shoes were. I also remember the jelly bracelets you could wear bunches of or loop a few together.

Also, leg warmers. One Christmas I received a pair and my friend didn't. So walking down the street of her neighborhood the next day she wore one on one leg and I wore one on the other. I believe they were rainbow striped. :)

I also remember we could ride just about anywhere in town we wanted to on our bikes. We were gone for hours. I could never let my guys do that now.

The 70's were about MOTOWN and the Philadelphia sound!

The Spinners

Aretha Franklin

Chakka Khan

The Temptations

The Commodores

Barry White (early on. "Walkin in the Rain with the One I Love")

The Delphonics

The Stylistics

The Main Ingredient

The Dramatics

Earth, Wind, and Fire

The Ojays

...and they were also about big hair (on boys!), platforms (red boots with knee covers), mini skirts, wide ties, big collars, ooobies, embroidery, patchwork, very wide pants (elephant pants and bell bottoms), cheekbones (applied with the skillful use of 3 different blushers), and really, really loud plaids.

Bub's Daddy gum...remember anyone? I was talking about this very topic with dh last night. He doesn't remember it. Again, I don't know if it was a geographical thing or not.

Also, my dh and I saw Billy Joel LIVE in concert when we were dating. This was 30 years ago and the young Billy Joel was just starting out!!:D

LOL Yes, that first box of Sun-In!! :D I remember how excited I was.

There was the striped gum with the zebra, can't remember the name.

I love those Motown groups also, still adore Earth Wind and Fire especially, and have to love Barry White.

Going to the public pool on a hot summer day still makes me instantly remember 'Band on the Run' coming out of the loudspeakers.

Great thread.

The candy shapped like ciggarettes takes me back to my grandmas front porch here in the bible belt. Smoking was a sin but we saw people do it all the time and we would hide eating and smoking those candy ciggarettes. Oh how innocent were the days of the 70's....

One of my favorite things was my baby doll called Baby Ann. Did any of you have one?

I remember my cousin who was 5 years older lent me her Heart album.

Homemade blue jean purses.

501 jeans....the only kind to wear (that might be regional).

Off the shoulder dresses with spaghetti straps.

We had one of those huge console TVs. speaker...TV....speaker. The lid lifted up on one side on the top to play records. The other lid was the volume radio.

Going down to the store to get the newest 45 single.....you had to buy those plastic tab things to make it work on the record player.

Big. sigh. Andy Gibb. I had a scandalous poster (according to my father) of him in his best disco outfit and his hairy chest showed. Oh that a hairy chest showing were all I needed to worry about these days!!!

Pong.

The movie Grease. My boy cousin my age an I used to do all the dances and sing.

A dime for the phone booth.

Sock hops on Fridays during lunch at our middle school.

There's a Facebook group called "If you were a little girl in the 70's" that I joined after nodding and laughing my way through their description, which I've copied below:

If you were a little girl in the 70's...

You had that Fisher Price Doctor's Kit with a stethoscope that actually worked.

You owned a bicycle with a banana seat and a plastic basket with flowers on it.

You learned to skate with actual skates (not roller blades) that had metal wheels.

You thought Gopher from Love Boat was cute (admit it!)

You had nightmares after watching Fantasy Island .

You had either a 'bowl cut' or 'pixie', not to mention the 'Dorothy Hamill'. People sometimes thought you were a boy.

You had rubber boots for rainy days and Moon boots for snowy days.

YEAH! You owned a 'Slip-n-Slide', on which you injured yourself on a sprinkler head more than once.

You owned 'Klick-Klacks' and smacked yourself in the face more than once!

Your Holly Hobbie sleeping bag was your most prized possession.

You wore a poncho, gauchos, and knickers.

You begged Santa for the electronic game, Simon.

You had the Donnie and Marie dolls with those pink and purple satiny shredded outfits, or the sunshine family

You spent hours in your backyard on your metal swing set with the trapeze. The swing set tipped over at least once.

You had homemade ribbon barrettes in every imaginable color. (Oh yeah!)

You had a pair of Doctor Scholl's sandals (the ones with hard sole & the buckle). You also had a pair of salt-water sandals.

You wanted to be Laura Ingalls Wilder really bad; you wore that Little House on the Prairie-inspired plaid, ruffle shirt with the high neck in at least one school picture; and you despised Nellie Oleson!

You wanted your first kiss to be at a roller rink! ---- yes it was!

PONG! ('video tennis' ) was the most remarkable futuristic game you've ever heard of !

Your hairstyle was described as having 'wings' or 'feathers' and you kept it 'pretty' with the comb you kept in your back pocket. When you walked, the 'wings' flapped up and down, looked like you were gonna 'take off' .

You know who Strawberry Shortcake is, as well as her friends, Blueberry Muffin and Huckleberry Pie.

You carried a Muppets lunch box to school and it was metal, not plastic. With the thermos inside some were glass inside and broke the first time you dropped them.

You and your girlfriends would fight over which of the Dukes of Hazzard was your boyfriend.

YOU had Star Wars action figures, too!

It was a big event in your household each year when the 'Wizard of Oz' would come on TV. Your mom would break out the popcorn and sleeping bags!

You often asked your Magic-8 ball the question: 'Who will I marry. Shaun Cassidy, Leif Garrett, or David Cassidy?'

You completely wore out your Grease, Saturday Night Fever, and Fame soundtrack record album.

You tried to do lots of arts and crafts, like yarn and Popsicle-stick God's eyes, decoupage, or those weird potholders made on a plastic loom.

You made Shrinky-Dinks and put iron-on kittens on your t-shirts!

You used to tape record songs off the radio by holding your portable tape player up to the speaker.

You had subscriptions to Dynamite and Tiger Beat.

You learned everything you needed to know about girl issues from Judy Blume books. (Are you there God, It's me, Margaret.)

You thought Olivia Newton John's song 'Physical' was about aerobics. (?? its not??)

You wore friendship pins on your tennis shoes, or shoelaces with heart or rainbowdesigns.

You wanted to be a Solid Gold dancer.

You drowned yourself in Love's Baby Soft - which was the first 'real' perfume you ever owned.

You glopped your lips in Strawberry Roll-on lip-gloss till it almost dripped off.

:D:D

Wouldn't you like to be a Pepper, too?

Be a Pepper, drink Dr. Pepper.....

I had the most serious crush on the Dr. Pepper dance man...I thought he was sooooooooooooo cute!

How about "Body on Tap" shampoo?

Or, better yet, how about Faberge shampoo (sp?)? You know...."you tell two friends, and then they'll tell two friends, and then they'll tell two friends, and so on, and so on," with all those faces getting split into smaller and smaller boxes. :tongue_smilie:

Or American Bandstand. I specifically remember watching K.C. and the Sunshine Band (*Do a little dance, make a little......*) one 4th of July when they were featured.

I also remember my mom kicking all of us kids out of the house in the morning and basically all of us disappearing for several hours. Those were the days....

They were innocent days, compared to today. Makes me kind of sad for today's kids.

... does no one else remember Frustration Pencils? http://www.coolmompicks.com/2008/12/1977_stocking_stuffer_flashbac.php

I also remember there was a store at the mall with *nothing* but Hello Kitty stuff in it.

Someone mentioned stickers.... we also had a store at the mall called "The Sticker Store". I still have most of my stickers, too, but the scratch n'sniff don't smell any more. However, my oil-filled unicorn sticker is still in great shape and still makes pretty colors when I run my finger across it! :tongue_smilie:

I have no idea what the Ditto pants are, even after looking at the photo.

I remember terry cloth clothes (in Florida! Yuck!!) and tube socks!!

Oh, and Sparrow, I can relate to almost everything on the list you posted, but I didn't have subscriptions to Tiger Beat and Dynamite....I just bought them when a fave was on the cover! :D

Thanks for the wonderful walk down memory lane ladies!!
