sewpeaceful Posted May 27, 2010 Share Posted May 27, 2010 pencils a sharpener for the pencils (mine kept breaking the tips to the mechanical pencils) erasers lined paper printer paper ink 3 ringed binder, composition books, and or spirals depending on how you intend to organize your stuff crayons, colored pencils, and or markers for drawing, notebooking, art, something always needs coloring it seems and I have a 3rd, 1st and baby scissors, glue, stapler, basic stuff index cards (I like 4x6) dry erase board dry erase markers dry erase eraser/spray/something a good library card I love the chocolate idea I also swear by my trampoline, scooters, bikes, and Wii Outdoor and Wii Fit to burn off excess energy. LOL! Lots and lots of paper, and ink for the printer..a must! Folders, and 3 ring binders white board, brought from Lowes or home depot, and white board markers spiral notebooks, and those composition notebooks...love these for journal entries!! crayons and markers glue The library card is a must!!! gpsings Posted May 27, 2010 Share Posted May 27, 2010 For your first year, there will be a few 'investments' your 3 hole punch, your really good wall-mount pencil sharpener, your stapler, and I recommend a laser printer, because you'll be doing a LOT of printing and copying and if yours is like all mine, they quit at the worst times possible. So, after that, here's my list 3 ring binders Lots of colored folders for lapbooks about 100.00 worth of pencils (ok, maybe not that much, but it seems like it) erasers to go with the pencils lots of construction paper glue sticks spiral notebooks (I also use them for daily journals) about 4 packs of crayons, colored pencils and markers per kid, per year. about 10 glue sticks per kid, per year and never NEVER never run out of coffee. :) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I bought the Expo brand lap board from Staples ($6 a piece) and it was worth it. They are holding up much better, and come with a warranty. Some things are worth the extra if you can swing it. It will hang on a wall or take up very little room on a table and it keeps all of the little supplies everyone's been mentioning in one place like erasers, post-its, push pins, safety pins, paper clips, binder clips, travel bottles of hand sanitizer, etc. I labeled the front of the drawers with my Labelmaker... Closeacademy Posted May 28, 2010 Share Posted May 28, 2010 My list of supplies on hand for 2 children: glue sticks--20-30 tape--20-30 colored pencils--2 boxes crayons--2 boxes markers--3 sets (mine are bad now too) pencils--2 sets brads--1 box watercolors--2 sets pencil top erasers--2 packages binders--1 for each subject for each child or 4 large ones binder tabs--2 sets (7-10 dividers) pronged file folders--10-20 notebooks--1 box loose leaf paper--1 box pastel colored copy paper--1 ream green colored copy paper--1 ream colored copy paper--2 reams white copy paper--1 box laser printer cartridge--2-3 file folders--1 box The copy paper, file folders and brads are used mostly for lapbooks. This is a list of what I like to have on hand at the beginning of the year or that I know we will use over the course of a year. Sometimes we have leftovers and my shopping list does not include all those things every year. iquilt Posted May 28, 2010 Share Posted May 28, 2010 My poor MIL is still sad that she can't buy them new lunchboxes every year for school (we have them, but they last forever since we use them once or twice a month) so I've suggested she can buy pencils and art supplies. After that our supplies come from either Office Max (because it's closest to our house) or anywhere else I see something on sale that we use. Our printer/copier gets a weekly workout so I try to have lots of paper and extra printer ink. And bikes for PE :) Our most used school supply is our pencil sharpener, electric and plugged in right in the kitchen. Shop at the before school starts sales and then wait a few weeks. Go back to a big box supply store and they usually have their leftover stock reduced to almost nothing. Last year, I scored Elmer's white glue for 5 cents a bottle. Got 20 bottles of that stuff and it has kept me from *&^(^%* more than a few times when the tops get all stopped up. I now have a new plan - the kids will each get one set of colored pencils and a few plain ones, an eraser and a sharpener, and a pencil case to keep it all in. (We use them instead of crayons) *Pencils *Pencil top erasers...we go through a ton of them. *Protractor-(3rd grade math) *Ruler *Tape...lots of tape *Post-it notes (I use them for everything including bookmarks because they don't slip) *Glue sticks *Printer paper *lined paper *Colored paper clips are great for sorting and using as manipulatives for early math skills. The pencils still disappeared, but at least I knew who to yell at. Everyone. LOL (Though I don't really yell. I should have said I know who to heave a heavy sigh at.) We had an inkjet previously and it ran out of ink all.the.time! We switched to a laser printer (monochrome, not color) and the toner cartridge lasted us for 2 years even with daily printing!! Colored pencils are used regularly too, and I find it worthwhile to buy decent ones. Crayola and Prang are okay for school use, but when it comes to drawing, we want Prismacolors (or other higher end pencils). Rose Art pencils are good for taking up space in landfills. Im wondering what you all keep on hand ? :D I make sure I have plenty of glue sticks, watercolor markers, Sharpies, freezer paper (great for making timelines and also for painting and other art projects), mechanical pencils, twist up crayons (the fine point ones are great for marking maps), Expo markers and a lap-size dry erase board, stapler & staples, masking tape, carpenter's tape, clear tape, paper clips, pushpins, loose-leaf paper, spiral notebooks, folders/binders, ruler, yardstick and/or meterstick, protractor, compass, construction paper, file folders, colored pens (red, green, purple, etc.), hole puncher, 3-hole punch, loose-leaf paper reinforcements, variety of manipulatives for math (tangrams, pentominoes, dominoes, unifix cubes, cuisenaire rods, and LOTS more), a good dictionary & thesaurus & atlas (appropriate for your child's age/grade level), globe or wall map, post-it notes in various sizes, regular AND zig-zag & scallop craft scissors, a variety of craft items (craft sticks, pom poms, wiggly eyes, sequins, pipe cleaners, brads/paper fasteners, stickers, stencils, craft paint, empty egg cartons--these make great paint cups), crayons, etc. I also keep a few empty 2-liter bottles (for science experiments) and various sizes of peanut butter jars (for storage, experiments. etc.). Other items that I have found to be indispensible in our homeschool are my printer & extra ink cartridges, a computer with internet access & Microsoft Word, and my DirecTv DVR--I record programs on many topics, including history, art, music, literature, science, and religion. We also have a Netflix membership, and we sometimes get DVD's of movie adaptations of books we've read in our literature studies. The day after Valentine's Day, go to Kmart, Walmart, Target, etc... and get the packs of valentine's that come with pencils. I think I got 10 packs for .25-.50 cents each and they had 24 pencils in them. My guys love the Star Wars, Cars, Bakugan pencils. Tape is an issue in our house! If I buy it, they will use it. Immediately!!! It doesn't last a day. I don't even buy string or allow it in the house. They will create spider webs throughout the house.
