  1. Thank you. I also just discovered Story of Science....How did I miss that? Here's another question....with SOTW, is it recommended to test? She doesn't test well...will narrations be a good enough indicator of where she's at? AND, does the Activity Book for SOTW include the tests or do I need to purchase them separately?
  2. She loves to read, and loves to write. BJU isn't working out for her....too dry, fact laden, and redundant in the christian thing. (We are christian, but anti-establishment, so I try not to add too much into the curriculum...) She likes the SOTW books, but she's in 7th grade. Shouldn't she be beyond that by now? Science- I'm lost. She's doing Bob Jones, but not doing well. Failing every test. :( Hates Apologia, I think because she just likes to read, not stop for an activity every paragraph. What do we think?
  3. I'm having this same problem with my 4th grader....what is WWE?
  4. I have a 4th grader (10 year old) and a 2nd grader (7 year old) and a 4 year old who I haven't felt is ready for any formal school yet...and we are trying to follow a classical model but I am also trying to work in a class/ time at the gym in the morning. I would be going at 8:30 and getting back home at around 10:30. What I'm finding is that they are so distracted by the time we get back, that they don't do what is asked. (It's hard to get them to do it when we DONT go anywhere) I have a major trust issue with my oldest, as she seems to have a terrible habit of doing the very minimal amount of work to say she's done...sloppy and often incomplete, unless I basically micromanage her and stand over her while she's working. Totally different thread about that... Our current schedule is: 7:00 get up, dressed, morning chores, brush teeth/ hair 8:00 breakfast 8:30-10:30/11:00 start math and grammar (we alternate, since they both need help with flashcards, etc.) 11:00-11:30 outside/ play until lunch 12:00 lunch 12:30 read to 4 year old, and lay him down for his nap 12:45/1:00 read aloud alternating history and science, memory work, go over latin Usually we are done by 2:30 to 3:00pm Should we consider getting up earlier? We really couldn't work much later...
  5. Have you looked at this? http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_2_29?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=living+memory+andrew+campbell&sprefix=living+memory+andrew+campbell This book has been fundamental in our memory work, and yes, it has all science memory you should ever need. It's not free, :( Totally worth it for us though.
  6. I have those symptoms and it's euterine hyperplasia caused by estrogen dominance. Progesterone should be helping....hasn't yet, but I believe! I have heard of those symptoms from endometriosis as well. I would def. see a dr.
  7. I still believe in God, but I really don't like to identify as a christian anymore...and I'm ready to walk away from the church. The discussion has to happen with dh, but I don't think he'll have a problem with it. I'm just tired of the hypocrisy and faux-fellowship. If someone wants to truly get spiritual, I'm open, but I'm done with the very 'highschoolness' of the church. :( Has anyone read the book 'Pagan Christianity'? or 'Mere Churchianity'? These books mirror my feelings at the moment.
  8. It would be nice. At the very least, a partial voucher would be an idea, but I'm not holding my breath.
  9. They are owned by the same family, from what I understand. I find them comparable if not the same. TJs just has more 'specialty' items.
  10. My 4th grader is really struggling. I do think the math is a bit advanced...I just backed her up 3 LU's to review and hopefully become more comfortable with what she's learned. :( I wouldn't think of it as a 'grade' so much as just the level of this particular curriculum.
