coffeefreak
Ever since 9/11, I am amazed at the amount of people at Times Square on NYE. I didn't think it was worth it before 9/11, but I honestly think people are crazy for going now. Especially this year with the recent terrorist attempt. Would you go? Blessings! radiobrain
I wouldn't go because I hate crowds, it is cold and my feet would hurt too much. Then about fifteen other things. Terrorism would never enter into my myriad reasons for not going.

Mommyfaithe
I have gone on New Years Eve...and my son will be there tonight with his friends. When I ws younger it was exciting. Now, I just want to sleeeeeeep! ~~Faithe
abbeyej
I agree. I have no interest in going, but fears over terrorism don't enter into it. I'm not *less* interested in going now than I would have been 9 years ago.
Lilymax
I wouldn't mind going, as long as I could stay on the fringes somewhere...would NOT want to be in the middle of that big of a crowd. But if I were going to do anything in NYC during the holidays, I'd rather go to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. I always thought it would be cool to see that in person someday. rwjx2khsmj
We planned to go to Times Square one year for New Years Eve before children, MANY years ago. We purchased matinee play tickets and were going to go watch the ball drop in the square after the play. Walking from our hotel to the play at around 3:30pm changed our minds. The place was frightening. Police in full riot gear everywhere, wall to wall people. We went to our play and found a restaurant for a late dinner. At 11:58pm the entire restaurant emptied into the street for the ball drop, then moved back in to finish dinner and toast the new year. We crossed back through Times Square around 1am and the police were very assertively encouraging all stragglers out of the square. The streets were a mess and I was so glad we'd skipped the actual event.

You bring up a good point. I would LOVE to do that someday. I wonder why I look at that as "safe" and the other as not? Isn't it funny when you don't know your own mind? I blame my kids:lol: Dorinda
athena1277
Other. I would like to go once, just to be able to say I did. However, that would have to be with no kids.
Chris in VA
I would go, once. It's over so quickly, you have to have a camel's bladder...so just to say I did it.
Ginevra
No WAY!!!! We were talking about this while watching the news this morning. I know it would be one of those "got to do it once in my lifetime" things, but still...standing in the freezing cold with a throng of people, many of them totally intoxicated, urinating wherever...No WAY. You couldn't pay me to go. I will watch the ball drop from under my mircrofleece blanket, with the kids in various states of wake/sleep. We're having an ice cream sundae bar here at midnight! Crissy
I didn't think it was worth it before 9/11 I couldn't imagine it before 2001 either. I don't really even care to watch the big crowds in the Square on tv. We stay home, play board games, read and eat together. If any of us makes it to midnight, we watch the televised fireworks display at the Space Needle.
Old Dominion Heather
I'd go. I've been in Trafalger Square in London on New Year's Eve and that was very cool. My sister and bil got engaged several years ago on New Year's Eve in Times Square.
Daisy
I've been before and HATED IT. Too crowded. Too many drunks. I cannot say enough times how much I hated it. I grew up in North Jersey so I had plenty of opportunities to go and I only went once. Never again.
LibraryLover
Not today, not right now. But when I didn't hate the cold, it was fun. My favorite crowd thing is Macy's T'giving Parade. I enjoy that.
Jenny in Atl
Standing in the cold outside to watch a ball drop is not my idea of fun. However, a night out on the town in NYC on NYE... Heck ya, I'm there with some pumps and a cute little black dress (if I can find one that looks somewhat okay )
Desert Rat
No, but I won't go to the Strip here in Vegas either. We stay home and are usually in bed by 10. There are crazies out and about on New Year's Eve. No thanks.
herbalgirl
No, because I dislike large crowds and it would be too stinkin' cold for me. This will be my second winter in the south and I am liking it! :)
PineFarmMom
Just me and dh now? No. Me, dh & the kids? Never...not ever ever!!! Me & dh before children, still in our twenties? Yes.
Caraway
I went (pre-9/11) and found it REALLY scary. The police were in riot gear, there were barricades, lots of drunk people. People were very aggressive, as were the police (not that I blame them!). It was TERRIFYING.
Denisemomof4
I wouldn't go since 9/11, but I wouldn't have gone before that either. I despise crowds. I've never once gone shopping on black Friday. I'd rather pay more money than have to deal with the crowds.
Impish
Not now that I have RSD. One bump, and I'm in increasing screaming pain for many hours...and the cold is just as bad. I'd much rather spend my NYE the way I have the past 7 years...alone with dh. ;) Heck, we refer to Princess as our New Year's Party Favour, since thats when we figure...you know ;)

Jackie in AR
I might have gone when I was younger, but there is no way I would go now. Too many people crowded into that space.

dirty ethel rackham
I wouldn't, but it didn't even occur to me to be worried about a terror attempt. I just don't like crowds all that much and not too keen on noise and drunken people. We will be watching a movie with the kids and drinking some NA sparkling wine - I am not much of a drinker (family history of alcoholism plus not a good mix with my tendency toward depression.) ETA: Now I did spend NYE on Colorado Blvd in my teens. We camped out to watch the Rose Parade. There were lots of drunks, lots of creepy people, lots of people selling dope, but we were with lots of families in campers and had a blast. That I would do again. Miss Sherry
I might want to go if there was a nondrinking section so there wouldn't be any drunks around and I had several friends to be there with. But I don't like being in crowds if people are drunk and acting strange because of it.

Dayle in Guatemala
But, not because I'm afraid of terrorism. I just think that standing out there, in that cold, not really being able to hear or see much would absolutely be miserable for me. I like it inside. Warm. With my bathroom and snacks a few feet from me.:D

dragons in the flower bed
Yeah, I'd go if it wasn't going to be too cold. I grew up in a NYC suburb; every year we looked for people we knew in the crowds on TV. I wouldn't worry about terrorists because 1) that's what they want, and 2) it's much more likely you'll be killed in a car crash on the way there. Kissy
I would go if I wanted to..I have never been interested in going..I have been to times square after 9/11 and it was crowded when I went not like it is on NYE but it was still busy. I am not into all the hustle and bustle. NY is always on high alert after 9/11 so I would think it would be in some more secure than other places. lionfamily1999
There should've been an option for "no, but terrorism has nothing to do with it." kewb
Terrorism is not my reason for not going. Crowd phobia, inability to hold my pee for hours on end, and freezing cold are why I choose not to go. However, if I could be one of the newscasters on a heated platform with access to a bathroom-sure.
