I agree about the "touching the seat".  I would suggest dropping a note to the owner/manager of the restaurant pointing out how unsanitary it is... and that as a patron, you will need to reconsider your patronage.

I haven't seen them, exactly, but what I see a lot of when we visit my boy at college (and around town where we live, as well) are girls that look like they are just wearing oversize sleep shirts. Theoretically (I hope!) there are shorts underneath, but the shirts are just long enough to cover their bums and bits covered by undergarments, and no sign/evidence of outer-garments shows beneath the shirts, below the shirt hem, etc.

Not talking tunic length shirts, but a length that just barely hides whatever is or isn't underneath. So, very possible it's those cheekies jean shorts under there.

I've seen this look in grocery stores, fast food, and regular sit-down restaurants (but thankfully not our sushi place), and of course all over the dorms when we visit. I'd expect it at a beach, in a beach town, in the dorms....I'd even give it a pass at the grocery store; it surprises me to see it out & about at a sit-down restaurant, though.

Yes, I see them here and there and can I just say that it's one thing when you are twenty but another when you are on the other side of fifty...

It does really nothing to enhance anyone's look other than cause people to look twice or three times.

I'm not quite sure what they wear underneath but it isn't much! We were recently at a scholarship awards event and a girl sitting in front of us, wearing just what you described kept standing up to take pictures and we were treated to the sight of her entire bare butt each time!

I had one my kids with me a few years ago at a store in the nearest college town. A girl in front of us was wearing a very short dress, and dropped something on the sidewalk. She did the full bend over to pick it up. We got a view of her butt. I remind my girls to always bend at the knees and go straight down to pick stuff up when wearing anything that can ride up. No bending over!

What I see a lot is see through leggings and skirts. They aren't meant to be see through, but the person wearing them didn't do the "butt check" at the store or in their mirror that morning. I'm never sure if I should say something, or just let them go through their day oblivious.

Not a fan, ick.  I don't think I've seen them here, but then, the weather hasn't been nice enough for shorts ....

Now I know this is gonna get me in trouble but ... butt... people are gonna look at these girls' butts and then it's gonna be the "gawkers" violating the flashers with their eyes.  How dare!  No decent person would think that if you put it out there, you must be OK with it being looked at.

And God forbid someone make a dress code that says butt cheeks must be covered.

Whenever I see this I always want to go up to the girl and say, “Hey, I don’t mean to embarrass you, but you forgot your pants.”  One of these days I’m going to get the nerve to actually say it.

I haven't seen them in public, but it's cold here.  I didn't even realize shorts exposing that much of the rear are being sold, I had to google to make sure I knew what you were talking about.  Tacky.

Having said that, it's not like cotton underwear and jeans stop bacteria.  If you can smell when a person passes gas through the clothing you're getting the bacteria too.  At least you know a woman exposing that much rear has bathed and used some sort of hair-removal routine recently.

I'm in So Cal. Nothing really surprises me when it comes to shorts.  I've seen  what could only be described as jean thongs.  However, each of the last few times at the airport, I've seen admittedly attractive young women in low low hip huggers. I mean so low that a smooth mon's is openly visible. Another cm lower and things vertical would be showing.  Now, that makes me wonder how they can go out like that. And, why at the airport?

Funniest thing I've read in a while.

Oh, no! My 22yo recently said something to the effect of "those will never be back in style" and I told her to mark my words, Britney Spears jeans and thin eyebrows will be back one day.

I live near a university and have seen both the super-short shorts and the long-t-shirt-with-possibly-no-undergarments look.  These girls have such long legs!  And zero cellulite!  And no spider veins!  It is amazing.  Did I ever have such smooth legs?  I must have, but boy howdy those days are looooong gone.

It's a look I find kinda the opposite of classy.

So, I don't find your opinion at all unreasonable!

Of course, I would never say anything, just think my judgey thoughts in my judgey head.

and my super unpopular view is that its all related to the pornogrification (not a word) of girls....it's nothing to do with the aesthetic joy of fashion, or self expression, and it's certainly not an independent, free thinking style of dress. I admire people of either sex who do dress with creativity - it's not that I think all the young people should be in sacks - but this isn't creative.

This. Especially the fine print. And I totally think that should be a word.

This.

Went to see Phantom a few years ago and followed a couple down the street. Her dress was so short her butt cheeks were hanging out. Was pretty dismayed to see her walk into the theater. Cloth seats. Blech.
