Michelle T
Spelling: Apples and Pears, finishing book B, starting book C Writing: Jump In! and probably IEW Grammar: Basic Grammar Plus Reading: daily assigned literature, plus occasional Reading Detective Math: working through Keys to Fractions, then Keys to Decimals History: reading SOTW books plus lots of historical fiction. We are just about to finish Ancients. We are going fast, reading 2-3 chapters per week. Science: I'm going to try something different here. For the next year or so, rather than specifically studying science, we are going to focus more on the biographies of well-known scientists throughout history, and try to do some simple experiments along the lines of what they discovered. Sort of like the Beautiful Feet History of Science, but I'm doing it on my own. Geography: using a Steck-Vaughn textbook Art: casually reading the Usborne introduction to art book Logic: Building Thinking Skills PE: karate 3x per week, homeschool PE 1x per week  Michelle T

What are you thinking of using?  1st Grade  Phonics Instruction--Visually Language Arts Level 1 (I wrote it and it uses SWR phonograms, keyword pictures, Fairy Tales and charts to work your way through phonics in a fun way) The goal is to learn to read easy readers this year.  Math--Rod and Staff Math I and Singapore Math Combo. The goal is to learn addition and subtraction facts this year.  3rd Grade  Language Arts:  Spelling--WISE Guide with the worksheets I created from the enrichment ideas.  Grammar--Visually Language Arts Level 3 (I wrote it and it uses Ruth Heller's Grammar picture books and includes instruction in Narrative composition.)  Latin--Minimus followed by Secundus  Math--Singapore Math 3b/4a.  Story of the World 3 and we may do a state study as we come across states as the Americas are settled.   Everyone:  Lapbooking or notebooking independent research topics. I have a whole list of topics that have lapbooks and such and we are picking things from the list to learn about. So far this summer we have learned about cats, rabbits, horses, the flag, voting and this next week we will be learning about pandas and the coral reef.  I am really excited about this as my girls seems to be getting a lot out of these since it is something that they are interested in. We check out books from the library, read about the topic and have fun.  I think these incorporate: history, science, composition, research, reading, art, etc.:001_smile:

Cheryl in NM
My goals are to keep ds near grade level in all subject just in case, God forbid, something happens and he has to placed in traditional school. The truth is, with the exception of math, he is far above his traditional school counterparts. I want ds to learn to learn and to love learning. I want him to know how to search out knowledge for himself. To do this I believe he needs a few basics: 1. know how to read 2. know basic math concepts 3. know a basic timeline of historical events  Ds, 11 Saxon 6/5 Wordly Wise 3000-last half of book, then Building Spelling Skills Exploring Creation with Botany Exploring Creation with Zoololy I Winston Grammar Basic-last half of book, then Winston Wordworks Latina Christiana Mark Kistler's Draw Squad Heros of History books and maps/geography SOTW book 3 A History of US Debbi Edmond's Creative Writing-last half of book I've also complied a list of literature to read and do study guides on: The Swiss Family Robinson by Johann Wyss The Time Machine by H.G. Wells Carry on Mr. Bowditch by Jean Lee Latham Bud, Not Buddy by Christopher Paul Curtis Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens The Yeraling by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings Great Expectations by Charles Dickens The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame The Red Badge of Courage by Stephan Crane Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson Moby Dick by Herman Melville Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain Adventures of Huckleberry Fin by Mark Twain We will also study the Bible, Declaration of Independence, The Constitution and William J. Bennett's Book of Virtues. I want to cover poetry by: Walt Whitman Edgar Allen Poe Emily Dickinson Robert Browning Carl Sandburg Lewis Carroll Robert Frost Ds is an avid reader and chose over half the books on this list. This schoolyear will be intensely Language Arts/Social Studies based.  Every year I ask Ds what he wants to study the next year. His responses for 2008-2009 were Astronomy, history, biology, math, computer programming, latin, french, India Indian  The only thing I didn't incorporate into school was french, indian and computer programming. He'll do the CP in his spare time with DH.  I'm still planning for next school year which we'll start Aug. 11.

I'm going to start older dd on Traditional Logic the next year. But, latin? I feel like it's too late. I tried once with LFC, but that was awful. I would also like to find something for Bible study. I just can't seem to find what I'm looking for. I don't want to use KJV and that eliminates a bunch.

King Alfred Academy
Things are still a bit unclear for us for the coming year, but this is what I think we will be starting at the end of August....Depends on when we are moving and what is going on with the charter school we applied to. DS7 (2nd grade)  Using TOG Y2 Redesign U1&2 for the first time and very excited about it!  Math...finishing up RS Level B and moving onto C...may supplement with Singapore CWP  Grammar...finishing up GWG Level 1 and moving onto Level 2  Spelling...AAS Level 2 and 3 Science...Nature Study...Barb's Green Hour Challenges (can't remember what the new name is)...digging deeper into whatever sparks an interest.  Mindbenders...the beginning level  French...looking into a curriculum for this still  Latin...Song School Latin or Minimus...maybe through a charter school  Fine Arts and possibly Martial Arts through a charter school...maybe  Also looking into and thinking about doing some sort of phonics program...maybe. He learned to read on his own and reads at a high level, but I think we should do something in this area just to make sure. Maybe SSWR or the ETC workbooks. DS5 (Ker) TOG...not expecting too much, but he really likes listening to the stories and doing all of the projects Math...RS Level A Phonics...undecided. I was planning to continue the ETC workbooks along with Happy Phonics, but I may have the chance to get SSWR for free!  Science...Nature Study...Barb's Green Hour Challenges (can't remember what the new name is)...digging deeper into whatever sparks an interest. French...looking into a curriculum for this still Fine Arts and possibly Martial Arts through a charter school...maybe

MIch elle
If you're looking for a higher level Latin with audio/video take a look at Latin Alive! I called CAP and they said the TM will be available by the end of July; the flash cards in Sept, and audio/video will probably be available in Nov. Â I may give Latin Alive! a try this fall instead of Henle for my 6th grader. The workbook format with audio, flash cards and online help is appealing. Also LA will prepare dc for the National Latin exams.
