  1. I have 3 friends with GE appliances that have had nothing but trouble with them. I steer clear of GE. I have a freezer bottom refrigerator by Samsung. We've had it for 2 years and I haven't had any trouble with it. I like that it has a water/ice dispenser on the front. The only downside is that it doesn't make a lot of ice at a time. It's only an issue when we have a lot of company in the summer, tho.
  2. Maybe the Kingfisher History Encyclopedia would work for you?
  3. I recommend Meaningful Composition by Training for Triumph. They have samples at their website so you can see what they offer. We've also used IEW and Writeshop 1 and 2. I'm going back to MC.
  4. I discovered Wacoal bras last year and will never buy anything else. They are pricey - around $60, but they are so worth it. It was hard for me to spend that much at first, but now I am way okay with it. Try a few on, I have one style that I love and it is all I wear. It is a minimizer bra, but it doesn't make me look squished like other minimizer bras have. The one I like has sheer back straps with a leaf design embroidered on it. The same material is along the top of the cups. I get mine at Macy's.
  5. My vote is for In-N-Out. It's the only fast food place I can eat at with my food allergies. Plus, it tastes good.
  6. I haven't read all the threads, but I agree with this. Paul is talking about those in the church who aren't behaving as Christians. As far as eating goes, I believe this to mean the Lord's Supper (communion). This was originally done as a shared meal, as was not to be taken lightly. The early church met as an assembly of believers and they went out to the unbelievers. 'Church' wasn't a time to convert people. It was a time to equip and teach believers. Spending time with and blessing unbelievers outside 'church' and living a quiet and holy life is how they showed and shared Christ's love to others. There are two different words that get translated at 'judge'. One means condemn and one means to sift through. I think...it's been a while since I did a study on the word 'judge'. It is God's job to condemn, not ours. It is our job to sift through stuff, hold on to what is good and refuse what isn't.
  7. and all the neighbors came over to introduce themselves. Not all at once. They are the best. We do bbq's together, help each other out, share our garden produce, etc. They are all retired and we are the only family, so my girls get lots of grandparent-y attention. One couple is the cutest - they are ages 99 and 87 (she's older), and he puts everyone's garbage cans back in their driveway after the trucks come. It's his weekly exercise. We are like a family.
  8. Great information, ladies - thank you! This helps a ton. No rain for our area to worry about (110* today) but I do sometimes forget to turn off the drip system.
  9. My guess is it was pushed out and a cat came along... Our neighbor had a mockingbird make a nest in their wreath on their front door. Another neighbor's cat ate all the babies. That mama bird harassed that cat for weeks! She would dip down at the cat and hop up to her and peck her tail and back. It was the funniest thing. I felt bad for the poor bird, but wow - I didn't know birds held grudges.
  10. love the pics and the title and the overall way it looks. I also found the smaller words hard to read.
  11. about the avatar, not the baby bird. I would leave the baby in there for the parent birds to deal with. They will probably push it out, so try to find it before ds. You can see if you have a local wildlife rescue that you can call for advice. Last month we accidentally knocked two baby birds from their nest. They were further along than yours. We tried putting them back in the nest 3 times, but they just kept jumping out, or the parents kicked them out. Not sure. I never saw one again, but the next day I found one half-dead and put it back in the nest, but it died and I found it on the ground. It was very sad.
  12. How in the world can I tell when my cantaloupes are ripe enough for picking? Sometimes I end up picking too early, other times I wait too long and they split open and I'm feeding my enemy: ants!
  13. No. I wish, but our mortgage is just too high. And to top it off, my dh works for the State of CA. They keep giving him furlough days, and I'm wondering when we will get an IOU instead of a paycheck.
  14. We have a stucco-sided house and squirrels are forever running around on the outside of our house. Sometimes they even look inside the windows at us, which we think is very funny. Drives my dog crazy!
  15. I do think our thoughts lead us to sin. That is very biblical. There are times when it is our own thoughts that we allow ourselves to dwell on and they become action, but there can also be outside influences, meaning demonic attacks. These are not from ourselves. If our battle is not against flesh and blood, I would assume that would include my own flesh and blood. The armor of God is to protect against the flaming arrows of the enemy, not my own thoughts. We do need to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ, but I also think that we have a battle to fight against spiritual enemies.
  16. Wow, great story. Thank you for sharing it. Posting anything on a public board makes me nervous. I feel like I'm walking into a quiet room and making a loud announcement. :) I've also seen that darkness that is darker than the rest of the darkness in the room. It is scary, but it lets me know what I'm dealing with. When I first dealt with evil spirits, I also sanctified my house. I used oil on the tops of all my windows and doorways. A few years later when we went to paint the inside of our house, my dh couldn't figure out what all this weird stuff was on the tops of all the trim. It took awhile for me to remember the oil.
  17. I don't think you are off base at all. Check out the book Walking with God by John Elderedge. I'm sure there are many more books out there, but I'm reading this one right now and it sounds like it is right where you are. Also The Bondage Breaker by Neil T. Anderson. They both talk about identifying when something is of us (our own sinfulness) or of satan and how to deal with both. I think it is key to be aware that satan does exist and wants to hurt our relationships. We don't have to focus on satan, but we should be aware that he is working against us. There are plenty of bible verses that tell us that. Resist him, and he will flee.
  18. This is put out by Training for Triumph. It seems similar to IEW in what it teaches, but there isn't a dvd aspect to it. I used it for my dd when she was in 5th and we both liked it. I liked that she made great improvements in her writing and that she didn't need much help from me. After that, we moved into Writeshop because that is what they offered in our co-op. http://http://www.tfths.com/comp.php
  19. These are the kind we use and love.
  20. Be careful with neem oil. If you spray it on your plants in over 90 degree weather, you will burn you plants. I'm worried about my garden. My daughter was supposed to turn off the water yesterday and I woke up this morning with a flood out there. Everything was looking so good, too. I hope this doesn't ruin anything. It is hot here - 108 today, so maybe it will dry out. Ugh- I was finally getting tomatoes without blossom end rot.
  21. I only have a high school diploma. I did take some cc classes that I enjoyed. I loved high school and got excellent grades and wanted to go to college, but my dad wouldn't let me. He wouldn't let me take the SAT's, he wouldn't help me try to get financial aid (he said it wasn't anyone's business how much money he made), he didn't look into options for me or help me find a path to take. I graduated at age 17. I didn't have a driver's license (can you guess why?). Since my dad didn't make any initiative to help me start my life, I moved 3 hours away to a much larger city. I took the bus to my job and took some classes at the cc. I started working at a bank (actually a S&L, remember those?) and began building a life for myself. My lack of a college education hasn't made me feel like I can't teach my own children. I love to learn. I often joke that I should get a second diploma after all I've learned teaching my kids. I should also add that my family doesn't have any college graduates either. It just isn't expected or talked about really. The whole thing seems rather mysterious to me. My husband went to university. He quit with only a few classes needed to get his degree, but we got pregnant with our first and we realized we couldn't afford the year of student teaching anyway, so he quit. My oldest daughter doesn't want to go to college, but my younger one does.
  22. I'm not touchy-feely at all, but everyone else in my family is. Drives me nuts.
  23. I start taking it as soon as I feel something happening and usually the cold sore never happens. I take pills, found in the vitamin/supplements dept. and I also use a cream that is found with the other cold sore meds like abreva. I'm not sure of the amount of pills I take because I don't remember how strong my pills are, but I usually take 2-3/day.
