  5. Hi.:) I have both Teaching the Classics and the World view. I recently purchased the world view and have not used it yet. The teaching the classics I use all the time. I honestly do not think you have anything to worry about. They are teaching you analysis (A Socratic Method) for literature. That itself is not Christian. They use good classical literature or good books as starting points. The curriculum or program itself is for you to teach analysis. See here: Teaching the classics basic principles What is Teaching the Classics Teaching the Classics is scroll to page 2 Student Essay Sample I hope that helps. Its a fantastic program. Its helped teach me to teach my peeps.
  6. Not sure how you have it... but try putting a unit in a binder at a time. That way you dont "look" at it all. *Ü* Take it a week at a time... and just do it. NO worry... You can do it!!:grouphug:
  7. If you are looking at long term you might look into IEW...its pricey but worth it! I also recommend Jump in. It’s affordable and with some instruction can be completed on his own. It is geared for reluctant writers... it’s not overwhelming in instruction either. Couldn’t go wrong with either...
  8. :iagree: This is what I thought... a honey yellow... or a creamy yellow. With stain color of the cabinets it would go wonderfully. Lisa~
  9. Do you have a recipe to share for both?? I have a huge box full of apples waiting for me to do something... but not sure how to go about it. I was going to google something.... but if you have a recipe... would love to have it! :D
  10. I was a young single mom. 17 pregnant, and just turned 18 when I had him. He is all grown up now. 20 years old and just moved out (yesterday) into an intern house on church property... sadness time has flown by... excitement he is on to new and independent things. Sorry if I'm buttin in here... its been a long time since I hung out over here on the forums!
  11. We use this, but I don't have a schedule. I just have my daughter work through a few lessons a day. We just move onto the next lesson when she is done and gets it. Math is sometimes one of those tricky things for us to schedule. If we have an issue in an erea... we stay in that area longer, so I no longer schedule lessons. Its just a given we do math daily. :) Lisa~
  12. Just my thoughts here... but I think the reason is that they are on the Loosethreads yahoogroup. Go to that yahoogroup and do a roll call and you would be surprised by the number *Ü* I'm a rotating moderator for the year specific lists... and can testify to this. Some woman are entering a 3rd cycle. :)
  13. Using TOG since 2003. Year 4 redesigned 1 dialect (13 yr old) 1 R (17 year old)
  14. Thanks for the reply!! Its good to get feedback! They are considering a new date for next year... Thanks again... I truly appreciate this...
  15. Its been about 7 months since I played.... anyone up for it?? :D WW

  17. I have, I used a few with my son when he was younger... maybe 11 or 12.... (he is 19 now)He didn't like them... then again he also didn't mind them... I think because of his age or where he was at is why he didn't care for it... kiddish for him... they are good studies... *Ü*
  18. I never studied the bible to follow what time period I'm in, but year 1 had so much bible reading we didn't do a "study". For bible study we like Explorers bible study. Its set up like bible study fellowship. You have a little to do each day of the week 5 days a week. You could use Faith at work, that would cover Romans,Galatians and James. Explorers bible study and here is the scope and sequence: S&S
  19. To date: Saxon, Teaching Textbooks and Scott Foresman and Life of Fred. My oldest used SF when we used Sonlight... it was the suggested curriculum then. He used it for 4th and 5th grade. It was a good experience. Saxon was used for lower grades for all my children with a short stint w /MUS ( other than my son using SF)... I liked MUS at first... but it was not good for us in the end... My tops for K-7 is Saxon My tops for Jr/Sr. Teaching Textbooks and Life of Fred. Its what worked for us.:)
  20. Jeana, I have been their.... We used SL core 2 and 6 back in the beginning and also 3 and 5. My oldest and youngest have a 7 year age gap. Your reasons above are just about the same as mine when I finally convinced myself to use TOG *Ü* It did take convincing... but you never know till you can truly see it... I had already bought all of our SL for the year back then....and a friend had just ordered year 1 TOG... another friend was so excited about it we all looked into it more. The first full year plan I ever saw was year 2 and I looked at it and said... "NO way!! I cant use that!" Just the size of it scared the bajeebers out of me. It was set in 2 large binders.....I borrowed it, thought about it it, looked it over... and in the end... for me it was better than using 2 SL cores. My favorite part to the entire program is the historical and world view. Especially since the kids are all older now. I could not have put such pieces together, ever! I know what ever you decide will be fine... I also understand your concern... you want the best for your peeps... :) I just want to encourage you that no matter what you use.... it will be fine. You are right... God has a plan for your son, your children... and they have a purpose.... and I know that it wont be your curriculum that determines that.... I can tell you are a good momma... you worry about whats best... thats one of the first signs...;) but it also robs us of joy. Oh, I just have to share one more thing... recently I listened too Todd Wilson on line. He was a guest at one of WA States home school Organizations.... The organization is called WATCH ( Washington Association of Teaching Christian Homes). WATCH hosts a monthly WATCH talk on line and he was one of the guest speakers. Hes awesome.... Diana Waring is the host.... He spoke about lies homeschooling moms believe, its one of his books... very good and I encourage new and veteran home school moms to read it. Its an easy read... so if you have a moment... you might want to listen... its only one hour... and very encouraging.... The reason I am suggesting it is because part of what he speaks on is what you are concerned with.... It was a good listen :).... here is the link to hear... just in case you would like too... WATCH Talk I hope the link works...
  21. I'm so sorry, I'm not up to speed on how they are doing things over at Lampstand right now....... but I have seen a few year 2 redesigns for sale on ebay.... maybe look for it used so you don't have to deal with the hassle of waiting??? Just a thought. I hope you get an answer...:)
  22. Oh one more thing... HI KATHERINE!!! BOy have I missed my online friends!:grouphug:
  23. Thats a hard call.....because only you can decide whats you and not. I have not used MFW, but I have used TOG since 2003/4. I began using TOG classic with 2 grammar level students and dialect. I was a former Sonlight user (among other things)and love the literature approach.... I have learned a lot from TOG and so have my kids. Mostly I have learned I dont use TOG traditionally or how a lot of others do.... I made it my own over the years. I'm not like a lot of the other moms who take a year plan in a year, but do what I feel we can and keep moving. Thats the best I can do. We are using redesign for the first time this year and I do prefer it to classic... mostly because of the improved notes/lecture and lit questions for the D level. I was always making up my own in classic.... Maybe when you finally get to view it you will decide its perfect/or not.... but try not to worry until you can see it. Then you will know..... Its a great guide that has placed everything in order for me. There is planning involed.... but I always teach to the oldest and fold the others in. I still read aloud to my children and my oldest being schooled is 16. I don't read everything, but we do read out loud sitting together and discuss things. Especially biographies.... and even some literature assignments. Gosh, dont know if any of this even helps ya.... but its hard to make a choice when you cant see it.... Im an in hands kind of a gal.... Have you printed off a week from the website to see if its doable?? What made you choose to buy it to begin with if you dont mind my asking??:) Having families to get together with helps with accountability and support... plus its fun that way. We were in an on line co-op for a few years and even though we were all over the US, it was a lot of fun sharing the load and enjoying others and their children....
