Melinda in VT
Tell me about Firefly. Watching is mandatory. Anything else you want to know? :D (It was created by Joss Whedon, who also created Buffy, Angel, and Dollhouse. It's a wickedly funny show about space cowboys. If that sounds strange and stupid, watch it anyway.)

The IT Crowd We love Top Gear as well. I don't know...I think Jeremy Clarkson really gets me or something. It is THE funniest show I have ever seen in my life. jessamonk
Jericho-- SO GOOD!!! We just found Jericho and I agree--it is great! My husband and I wait for each other to watch shows together; he is reading right now and I REALLY want him to stop so I can get back to the last few episodes of season one! Other shows that have been Netflix obsessions: Veronica Mars--probably now my favorite show of all time. Firefly--yes, space cowboys, but awesome. Dollhouse--another Joss Whedon show, and also awesome.

Monk would be if we hadn't already seen them all. Hogans Heroes would be if we didn't own them. Angel
The Hardy Boys & Nancy Drew Mysteries (they also like the Miss Marple and Poirot Masterpiece Mystery installments) My dd LOVES the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew Mysteries. After watching she said we don't have enough adventure in our lives. And thanks for the Miss Marple Mysteries idea, same dd is SO excited that I just put this on the list! She's played a Miss Marple computer game and it's in the episodes. Torchwood : tried watching, but had to watch late at night because of cursing and content. Gave up til kids graduate:lol: [/color] Oh my :iagree: We are huge Doctor Who fans and started watching Torchwood as a family. SO, so, so NOT family friendly. Eek!! Very disappointing. I'm wondering if Firefly and Sherlock are family friendly? Our list includes: Doctor Who (fun for the whole family) Star Trek and Star Trek: TNG (dh and I are the only ones interested) Merlin (fun for the whole family) The X-Files (dh wants to share these with older dd) The Hardy Boys & Nancy Drew Mysteries (younger dd, though dh and I find ourselves watching with her LOL) Robin Hood BBC (haven't watched yet) Mythbusters Deadliest Warrior Friends of ours love Monk, Leverage (really love!), Lost, and Castle. Lady Florida.
I'm wondering if Firefly and Sherlock are family friendly? I've never watched Sherlock, but Firefly depends on your family's choices and your kids' ages. I'm fine with my nearly 14 year old watching it. One of the characters is a prostitute (though called a Companion and it's a highly respected profession in their world). Her work is sometimes referenced. In fact, one of the episodes seems to pay homage to "Unforgiven". I think a lot of that would go over the heads of young children, but I also don't think it's the kind of show that would interest them. gardening momma
My Princess (streaming only)--this is a 2011 Korean TV series with English subtitles. 16 episodes. It's excellent. I'm partway through the last episode. Is it ok for kids? I think it is, with possibly 2 exceptions: 1) the word "piss" was used once. 2) toward the last couple/few episodes, there was mention of some websites that the princess was trying to remove any trace of her having visited (deleting her profile, posts, etc). So "porn" and "erotic" were mentioned, but in the cleanest way you could, I think. She was embarrassed when someone mentioned them. After that, her boyfriend would sometimes tease her and call her "Erotic Seol" (her name is Seol). Other than those, I think it was a very clean, family-friendly show. Slartibartfast
I'm wondering if Firefly and Sherlock are family friendly? There are quite a lot of references to sex and a sex scene IMO it really depends on the family and the age of the kid. I would recommend watching it first. Most of the cursing is in Chinese so the language isn't too bad as long as you don't know Chinese. The movie (Serenity) is violent. I have only seen three episodes of Sherlock and I don't remember anything? I would watch it first...it has been awhile since I watched it and I tend to forget. Edited July 25, 2011 by Sis
