  1. Well the glitches and slower speeds don't bother me too much because I understand that they are (or should be!) short-term issues. Whenever there's a major update there will be bugs found after the fact; it's inevitable. I do think that it would have been wise for the owners to consult with their users before making major changes, and should have done more beta testing before going live. My DH is in this field and he'd find this degree of bugginess unacceptable so many days after the update. That said, I don't see any benefit to this new format. From a functionality standpoint it is a huge step down. Since posts take up too much space (too much wasted space to scroll through), there's no thread preview hover feature, and it's not compact and efficient in appearance, I find the whole experience unappealing. I also used to frequent Mothering.com for years. When they switched to a similar format I stopped going. :(
  2. Personally I won't be visiting as much without the hover feature -- the dropdown feature is really not helpful, because it takes just as long as opening the thread.
  3. 5'5", 108, I eat 2x a day with an occasional snack. When I'm not consistantly working out (yoga, pilates, running), I eat about 700-800 calories at each meal, although I tend to look at my week as a whole and stay within my ranges for that time rather than for each day. Sometimes I'm hungrier and I eat more and sometimes I eat less. I do eat Primal though, so I'm eating a lot of nutrient-dense food (meat, eggs, veggies, healthy saturated fats) to hit those numbers. When I have a high carb day I am constantly starving and don't feel full for long, and I always seem to eat too many calories. There are really good calculators out there to determine how many calories you need to eat to maintain, lose, or gain. You'll want one that takes into account your height, weight, age, & activity level. I have a spreadsheet someone posted for free on Fitocracy (or maybe Loseit) that I used to calculate my goals and have found it to be accurate IRT my calorie needs. Also understand that your calorie needs will decrease as you lose. One lb of fat is about 3500 kcal, so that makes it easy to see how long it will take to lose a lb.
  4. My girls love Lego Friends. :) Other ideas: American Girl dolls, RC cars, art supplies, playmobil, Breyer horses, etc.
  5. The weaker one's immune response, the higher the likelihood of shingles later on. The vax contains a weakened virus, so obviously the immune response is muted as well. Also, the relative rarity of the virus in natural circulation (due to the prevalence of the vax) means that people are no longer exposed to virus regularly. This means they aren't getting the regular, asymptomatic "boosters" they used to get. Varicella vax = More shingles for all Yet another example of the law of unintended consequences.
  6. Powdered milk, add and re-mash. Do not stir mashed potatoes, it will make them gluey.
  7. Sensitive children might not like the monster book, regardless of season. I have 2 very sensitive ones and anything referencing monsters would scare them at that age, so I wouldn't be happy about it. As far as the Jack o'Lantern, someone who doesn't celebrate probably wouldn't be a huge fan of that activity. Could you stick to pumpkins? Maybe read a book about bats? Spiders?
  8. That's easy! Just move to the South. There are plenty of double-named girls!
  9. We did one last yr in our co-op; will see if I can find out more about it.
  10. Is there any way to find out why? I googled and did a search of their crummy forums and they were totally useless. Not to mention their forums looked straight out of a Prodigy bulletin board circa 1992. Maybe worse. FWIW my listing was a piece of nice (brand name) jewelry, new (received it as a gift). So basically, if I want to solicit an "encounter" with a total stranger, that's cool, but my poor jewelry is offensive to someone. And that someone can flag my post and have it removed and I will a) not be told that it's been removed and b) not be told why. I hate CL. I really do.
  11. Babe - one of MY all time favorites, too. I cry & cheer at the end every time! Wall-E - such a fantastic message and so well done! Nothing offensive and has truly noble, self-sacrificing heroes. Charlotte's Web (the old one)
  12. Whenever we acquire a large amount of candy I let them have a few pieces, rationed out one or two at a time, over a couple weeks. However, we set the majority aside and freeze it for our annual gingerbread houses.
  13. This is REALLY easy and sooo delicious. It seems to impress people too. ;) Definitely serve it atop greens and wasabi mashed potatoes (also incredibly easy). http://www.food.com/recipe/tuna-or-fish-or-chicken-with-ginger-shiitake-cream-sauce-131545
