Chick Flick Rec?

Recommended Posts

Have you seen A League of Their Own? It's older, but some people haven't. ;) Not that i would know anything about that.

Bull Durham

Ok, yeah, I love baseball movies.

For silly to the max, Baby Mama (with Tina Fey) is hilarious (I am ashamed to admit) and The Devil Loves Prada has it's moments.

I don't suppose the 40 year Old Virgin would be considered a chick flick? ;) What are we, Al Qaeda?

There is always Jane Eyre, Pride & Prejudice, Shakespeare in Love etc

Truly, Madly, Deeply

That one gets me every time.

:iagree:

LOVE LOVE LOVE that movie :)

Lately I've been trying to catch up on older movies that I never did see and recently saw August Rush, so I always recommend that one to everyone.

If you want to laugh, watch Music and Lyrics. :D

Oh, and Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day is really good, too.

Sleepless in Seattle

You've Got Mail

When Harry Met Sally

The Holiday (Cameron Diaz, Jude Law, Kate Winslet & Jack Black)

Charade

Roman Holiday

Notting Hill

I second, third and fourth Pride & Prejudice -- if you don't want to devote 6 hours to the superior A&E version, how about the beautiful but not quite as perfect version with Keira Knightley? ...or...Bride & Prejudice, the really fun Bollywood version?

Have fun!!!

I get to have a girly weekend with just me! WHOOHOO!

So I made up my mind that I'm going to rent Dirty Dancing (one of my faves) and watch Titanic again (I have it and watch it every year) and I'm looking for one more really good chick flick. Any recs?

Do you want a tearjerker that has Reese Witherspoon in it from one of her early roles?

The Man in the Moon (1991)

DYK Reese's first names? I didn't til I just imdb'ed it.

Laura Jeanne Reese Witherspoon

Would it really be a true chick flick night without at least one Austen movie :)?? I love Persuasion with Ciaran Hinds (1995). It's not as Hollywood as the more recent Austen movies, but I like that. Such a great love story!!

Have fun with your friends! It sounds like you'll have a wonderful time!:)

Casino Royale. Seriously. No need to even turn on the sound. ;)

The Wedding Singer (if you're between 35 and 45 - HILARIOUS).

Pure Country. LOVE it. I can skip the whole first 20 minutes as Buddy and Lulu annoy the life out of me - but the whole George Strait and the beautiful and unassuming red head fall in love. Awesome. (Interestingly, the never kiss as he felt it was unfair to his wife - makes me double love the movie!)

Fireproof.

I'm not a big fan of chick flicks, but there are some I've really enjoyed... most of them have Sandra Bullock! I liked While You Were Sleeping, Hope Floats, Practical Magic and The Lake House.

I *love* While You Were Sleeping! Now I have a craving! I am going to have to go to the library and get it now. :glare:

The films where she is a beauty pagent contestant are fun.

LOL! I get the craving to watch it every year around the holidays, so I wound up buying it on DVD. I forgot about Miss Congeniality-- I didn't see the second but the first was hilarious!

I'll second Shakespeare In Love. :001_wub:

I love Chicago too.

I'm a sucker for Hugh Grant (*swoon*), Colin Firth, Johnny Depp, Ralph Fiennes, Russell Crowe.

Have you seen The English Patient? Even The Mask of Zorro was so great with Antonio Banderas. He was SO sexy in that movie, but it was fun too.

I'm a sucker for big costume movies. My idea of a perfect weekend is a bunch of those on DVD, cold and rainy outside, and no one to bug me! :D Movies like Elizabeth, all the Austen stuff, Gladiator.

  • 2 weeks later...

Just an update: the library had most of them. I now have 22 movies on reserve!:lol::lol: I selected the date I want them for, so whichever 6 come in first, those are the ones I'll be taking home and hopefully I'll be able to watch several of them. I just couldn't decide, so the library will decide for me!

Thank you all!

Always (classic, a not to miss favorite)

PS I Love you (Gerard Butler, to die for)

And honestly, if it were me, I would add Season One of Firefly. Not chick flick per se but oh so wonderful, witty, flat out funny and sexy. Great looking men, strong wonderful women, the kind you would be friends with..., bar fights, brawls, balls, horses, swords, spaceships, bad guys, good guys, really bad guys, and more. Did I mention totally quotable?

I loved Stardust. It didn't get much hoopla when it came out, but people are starting to like it more and more. Someone compared it to The Princess Bride--which also didn't get a lot of hoopla when it first came out, but is now one of the all time favorite movies of just about everyone.

Stardust had that Princess Bride feel to it--it was different from any other type of movie. Hard to fit in a box. Loved it.
