  1. :iagree: One of my all-time faves. We also really enjoy Sequence. Besides regular Sequence, there is also a States and Capitals version and a Bible version. My kids have always liked Pictureeka. (not sure if I spelled that right...)
  2. A few that we like: Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken Fly Away Home Secondhand Lions Savannah Smiles Labyrinth Annie
  3. I can't fold a fitted sheet or whistle either, but also can't: make Jello peel potatoes (without cutting off some of my own skin) mail a package without mummifying it with tape ...and probably several more things that I can't think of right now :tongue_smilie:
  4. These are two of my favorite resources: Deconstructing Penguins, by Lawrence and Nancy Goldstone All Through the Ages http://www.nothingnewpress.com/atta.shtml
  5. They were for him. Snickerdoodles are the only cookies he will eat. Sometimes I wonder if he is really my child... :D
  6. Might have already been mentioned, but these are things that my son was happy to get: those little cans of cheese dip that you can find on the racks at the check-out (like at WalMart) glow sticks water balloons and small water guns Bomb Bags (If you don't know what these are, google it. They are a BIG hit with boys. You can buy a box of them on amazon) card games water-proof, disposable camera flashlight batteries After-Bite (or something for itchy bug bites) you may want to send extra bug spray, sunscreen, or chapstick in case he has misplaced the original candy that won't melt Pepperidge Farm Snickerdoodles :D
  7. My daughter did TT4 and TT5 in one school year.
  8. I wonder if that is something new that they're doing, because I know we've been streaming on 3 or 4 different devices at the same time before... :bigear:
  9. I play Cityville and Frontierville occasionally; but I am totally addicted to Farmville. :D
  10. Hello everyone :) I haven't been here in a while, but I'm stumped on a math problem and knew that someone here would be able to help me. I really ought to be able to figure this out, but I have no clue... :tongue_smilie: If the total price of something (cost + tax) is $92.75; and the sales tax is 6%, how much was the original price before tax? Please tell me how to figure this out so that I can explain it to my son, lol.
  11. I'm not a smoker - never have been - but I do work in a tobacco store. So far, we don't have any packaging or signage with graphic photos; and I haven't heard anything about it. That doesn't mean it's not going to happen; I just haven't heard anything about it. The major changes that happened in 2010 (that I know of) were that no tobacco products could be self-serve (all have to be behind the counter); they are no longer allowed to use the words "light" or "ultra-light" on their packaging or signage; there are large, bold warnings about the effects of using these products on the packages and signs; and they are still working hard on getting rid of the menthol cigarettes. These changes didn't apply to cigars because they are not regulated by our government. I have customers come in every day and tell me that it's the last time I'll see them because they are quitting... and then they're right back in there again. They know what it's doing to them, and they complain about the prices constantly going up.... but it's a highly addictive drug. The graphic pictures may help some, but probably won't make much difference to most of the smokers.
  12. They are non-fiction companions for some of the books in the series. I think they are usually $4.99 or maybe $5.99.
  13. I hope it is okay that I am bringing this thread back up... I got my WV gift catalog in the mail today, and the girls are really wanting to donate something. We do things for local charities every year, but so far never anything like this. I wanted to check it out; so I googled and found some good things, and some not so good things. How do you know what to believe? Is it a scam or not? I'm glad that I searched through the forum here so that I could read that some of you have had good experiences with WV, but I still wonder what you all think about the reports of it being a scam... And thank you to those of you who suggested a possible alternative. That would have been my next question. :)
  14. I'd probably put some sort of chocolate in there for most days, but add a bit of money to some of the drawers for a nice surprise.... maybe $5 or $10 here and there. :001_smile:
  15. We probably had 100 or so, and probably half of them were teens. Loud. obnoxious. teenagers. Just my opinion, but I think teenagers are too old to be T-O-T'ing. I also noticed several adults that were dressed up and T-O-T'ing; and some moms that only had infants. Yeah, the babies are cute in their costumes, but they don't need candy. Why not just go to the store and buy some candy if you want some that badly? Who knows, maybe they were T-O-T'ing for another child that wasn't able to go out... :tongue_smilie:
  16. Frindle is our fave, but we also really enjoyed Lunch Money and No Talking.
  17. Ooh, I love these!! They are so much better than other stores' cookie cakes. I noticed the other day that they now have sugar cookie cakes, too. I need to try one :D
  18. I have problems like this between my son (13) and one of my girls (10). He gets along fine with his other sister. When they're bickering, I tell them that they need to work it out themselves and stop it, or they will both be punished. For DS, it would be loss of a privelige (like his computer time, video games, iPod, etc.); and for DD, she would be somehow isolated so that she is unable to play with her sister or interact with the rest of the family for a certain time period. There isn't really a particular privelige that I could take from her that would really be a punishment, so that is what makes an impact with her. Sometimes I lose it, too, and I'm sure that I scream at them. It's not the right thing to do, and I need to stop doing that. I don't want them screaming at eachother. I just wanted to say that I know how you feel. :grouphug:
  19. We have a dentist here that does that as well. I think it's a great idea. Of course, I will have to pre-approve the giving away or selling of any chocolate... :D
  20. Since you gave the answer, I can see how to arrive at the answer (dividing/multiplying the fractions); but if you had not given the answer, I wouldn't have been able to figure it out. I hope someone can explain the "why" behind this, because I don't get it. :blushing:
  21. I love cake walks!!! I have been to smaller gatherings where they did cupcakes because it was just for children; but when it's for adults or all ages, it's probably going to be a full-size cake (or a batch of brownies, a few dozen cookies, etc.). Also, at the "Fall" Carnivals (as someone else said in another thread, it's still Halloween if the kids are in costume and they're collecting candy), there is usually a candy bar walk, where they give out full-size candy bars. The kids get really excited about this because they've been walking around collecting all those smaller ones.
  22. Honestly, I just grew up doing it that way. They go straight into a laundry basket after being used and the basket of towels gets washed every other day, if not every day. This is another reason. Since we've been back at my father's house, there are 5 of us sharing one bathroom. It seems like the shower is going all day, and there's no other place to hang a towel except over the shower doors... so they would never get dry. Before we separated, my husband would use his towel twice before putting it into the laundry basket. We had plenty of bathrooms and showers, so there was no problem with the towels getting dry in between uses. Still, though, I just used mine once because that's what I'm used to. :) The hand towels get changed at least every day, sometimes more than once a day. Again, it's because there are so many of us sharing a bathroom. They just don't seem to ever get dry and often look dirty.
  23. We wash them after every use here, and change the hand towels every day.
  24. Not nearly as often as I should, but I do wash the pillowcases a lot more. I'm so glad the kids can change their own sheets now. I hate changing the sheets on bunk beds! :tongue_smilie:
