Word Nerd
Sad to hear that NPR's Car Talk co-host, Tom Magliozzi, has died of complications from Alzheimer's disease. I've never been that interested in cars, but I always enjoyed his banter with Ray and actually learned a few things about cars while listening to the show with DH. Tsuga
Oh no! :( That makes me so sad. I enjoy that show as well. I learned a lot about cars from that show.
Luckymama
I cried when I saw the news on twitter this afternoon. I started listening in the mid 80s when at college. Dh and I listened to the show or podcast every week and continue to listen to the reruns. My dad just loved Car Talk.
Guest
May he rest in peace. Those guys were a lot of fun.
aggieamy
I'm sad for his family who must be feeling his loss so acutely. He was such a funny person. DH and I loved listening to Click and Clack on the radio during car trips. We'd always laugh when someone called in with a question on a car like an '81 Buick and wonder how those cars were still running.
Mrs. Tharp
:( That is so sad. I loved that show. He and his brother were obviously having so much fun.
plansrme
His decline must have been incredibly swift--they were still doing new shows until two years ago. I wonder why some people linger for years and others do not. Regardless, this was terrible news, especially for someone so young.

Mothersweets
Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear this. :( We've listened to Car Talk for the past 10 years or so and have loved every minute. Tom and Ray were so much fun to listen to. Does anyone remember the episode when Tom is telling the story of the retired California man who attached several military weather balloons to a lawn chair, strapped himself in and took off up into the wild blue yonder. The man was carrying a bb gun which he planned to use to shoot the balloons so he could eventually land. Well, the man gets about 900 feet off the ground and....drops the bb gun! Tom and Ray laughed for 5 minutes straight. It was hilarious. We'll miss you, Tom.
LucyStoner
Back in 2001, we bought a 1998 Corolla and subsequently had a problem with the title and plates never being delivered and the dealer being AWOL. We were listening to a caller in a nearby city on their show describing a similar problem with a dealer. The dealer being described, and the problem, sounded an awful lot like ours. They gave her advice, which we followed, and the problem finally got resolved. I have listened to them since I was a kid, though not so much since they went onto repeats. I am awfully sorry to hear this news. What a loss for his obviously loving and closeknit family. When I told this to my husband and sons, my sons were like "who is that." I told them the Rusteze guys from Cars and all of the sudden they knew, lol.
SparklyUnicorn
Oh that is so sad. I used to listen to that show regularly. And I'm not even interested in cars. They were just so funny.

It's just so sad regardless and he will be sorely missed. may he rest in peace. I'm so glad they still have reruns.

milovany
Ahh, I didn't know they were airing repeats. :( So sad. We've loved Car Talk for a long, long time. Funniest story ever here (costs $0.99, but worth it!). It's called "Max the Schnauzer."
