I have posted a hundred times already my plan :) But I will do it again, as I am so excited. I have most of my books in now, with one last order from Memoria Press that has been shipped. I can hardly wait for it to come in. Here is the plan:

5th grade:

Rod and Staff 6th grade math and possibly spelling. (May drop spelling as she has vocab in other subjects, and is a natural speller. It depends on how the big her workload goes for her after we start.)

Rod and Staff 5th grade English

First Form Latin

Spanish for Children Primer A

Classical House of Learning Literature logic stage ancients

WTM style history using the Kingfisher History Encyclopedia

Complete Book of Maps and Geography for map work

Memoria Press Christian Studies I

Drawing with Children (chapter 5) and read through What Your 5th Grader Needs to Know art section

Music: Alfred Piano and Rod and Staff music workbook

Science: Condensing Memoria Press' 5th grade science and adding their 6th grade Biology book too (not the 6th grade tree study though.) I am buying a microscope and adding hands on when it fits, but not stressing about experiments this year. Actually the first unit is a bird study and bird watching, so it will be a lot of outdoor nature and we will dissect an owl pellet, but after that it will be books and workbooks. We will also we do a science fair one month of the year. So a lot of materials to sort through, but I am very excited about my plans. I have always done WTM style science and it is all hands on. I am actually excited about a book and questions to read from. It seems almost too simple and a bit of a relief actually after years of pulling together all of my plans and materials and doing experiments every week.

3rd grade:

Rod and Staff 3rd grade math, spelling, English, penmanship, music

Story of the World vol. 1 and Complete Book of Maps and Geography

Prima Latina

Art, Music, Science: same as above except I will use more of the Usborne First Illustrated Encyclopedias with her on the biology subjects and have her do a science notebook of narrations and diagrams and scientist biographies.

DS is just turning 5 but we're about 22 lessons into RS-B and he reads at a third grade level. So for the sake of sanity, I've decided to combine K and 1st and basically have a longer term plan. I'd like to get through all this by the end of August 2014. We are moving 1500 miles away in October so I'm holding off starting most of it until January. We'll be HS year-round so in reality I have 20+ months to do it all. I figure at the end I'll know how better to plan for a 12 month 2nd grade year.

Starting ASAP/Working on Now:

Right Start B

Phonic Road 1

Logic (still figuring out which one; DS will think this is fun not work)

Starting in January 2013 (to be done August 2014):

Add in SM 1b for math

History Odyssey 1

Classical House of Learning (might not be able to do the whole thing)

BFSU (first 2/3 of book)

An art/music program (still deciding on a program)

Spanish lessons through Homeschool Spanish Academy

Working our way through the Ambleside classics reading list (doing as many as audio books as possible)

If we finish the math or PR before the end of 1st grade we'll just move to the next level (probably SM 2a and Miquon for math).

Guest mom2my2

I have two kids, DS age 5; DD age 3

DS age 5:

Daily Bible: Readings from the Bible. Seeds Family Worship Audio CDs for our scriptures to memorize

Daily Reading: Phonics Pathways, Hooked on Phonics 1st grade and lots of independent reading

Daily Handwriting: Daily funny or sweet sentences I create for him. Letters to Family. Other incorporation into our day.

Daily Math: RightStart Math (finishing up A and moving into B)

Daily Workbooks: Critical Thinking Skills, Kumon Mazes and Telling Time.

Weekly Music Study: Charlotte Mason (CM) approach for picking composers and listening to their music. I'll use our personal library and our local library for CDs

Weekly Picture Study: Another Charlotte Mason approach. I purchased Dover Postcards from Amazon for various artists and we're using those.

Weekly Nature Study: Another CM approach. We'll spend time outdoors, with a pad of paper and colored pencils to watch as their journal and interests unfold.

Weekly Literature: I pulled together a Master Book list from great sources such as Sonlight, FIAR, Ambleside, SCM etc. I then put the library call number next to the book so I know which ones are available and where to find them. I have 1 page of the list in my purse and the whole list on my phone so when we go to the library, I can easily look for the next books on the list.

Weekly History: Classical Conversations and Story of the World

Weekly Science: Classical Conversations as our spine and delve into interesting areas with Library Books. Various other Experiments

Bi-Weekly Handicrafts: Another CM approach. I created a list of various handicrafts we'd like to do this year and will cycle through those each week.

Bi-Weekly Crafts: This is mostly for my daughter, but we'll do them as a family.

Monthly Habit formation: Again with a Charlotte Mason idea. Each 4-6 weeks I will work on a new habit with each child. Good habits are the foundation to Good Character.

Weekly Art: We have a Co-Op Art Class that we do each week

Also weekly are Family Games, Field Trips, etc.

That seems like a lot when I write it out like this, but trust me its not really. We're not spending tons of time on each thing. Charlotte Mason with short lessons and full attention. Our school days are 4 days a week for 1-1.5 hour for the Daily Stuff, the rest is all just fun play incorporated into our days. Although my son things everything we do, except Phonics, is fun and games anyway! :001_smile:

Half these plans have changed and I don't feel like I can be trusted to remain faithful to my latest plan so I'm not updating.

I finally committed to new plans! (I was right about those "latest" plans in part.) My desire has been to redeem time from prepping and planning so I can focus more on character, habits and foreign language this year.

First Grade

Heart of Dakota, Beyond Little Hearts for His Glory

Life of Fred Elementary, The Verbal Math Lesson

Sequential Spelling

Rod & Staff English 2

Various resources for Latin, Khmer, Spanish & American Sign Language

Various media for learning the States and their capitals and self directed science.

Informally completing A Child's History of the World and the Latin-Centered Curriculum's grade one literature.

Pre-K/Kindergarten

Hooked on Phonics K, Phonics Pathways

Queen's Language Lessons for Little Ones

Various math and handwriting as suit the needs of the moment

Various resources for Latin, Khmer, Spanish & American Sign Language

LCC's K Literature

I am still not completely sure... Going into Logic stage with one end hitting the end of SL's Core E and therefore pretty much coming to the end of one 4-year cycle.

Together:

TOG Yr 1 using books from SL Core 5 and 6, or whatever they are called now:tongue_smilie:

SL Science 5 Anatomy/Health stuff

Visual Latin

DS5th-

WWE 4 finish, start WWS

Possibly some IEW ancients theme-based writing

KISS Grammar

Spelling Power

CHOLLA for lit

Horizons Math 5 with MM

Typing

Guitar

Sailing/Skiing

Art- coop and Artistic Pursuits

DS3rd-

WWE 3

KISS Grammar

spelling Power

CHOLLA for lit

Horizons Math 3 with MM

Reason for Handwriting Cursive

Sailing/Skiing

Art- coop and Artistic Pursuits

Piano

I am still trying to figure out how to blend SL and TOG, if anyone has advice, let me know. I am also intrigued by CW and PR, but I have been doing this long enough now to know that I have to have a few subjects that aren't as heavy on the teacher-prep and, in the words of that little cleaner fish in Nemo, "I will resist!"

2012-2013 school year

DD - 6 years old

by age, 1st grade, but according to her it is second grade because we called last year first grade. However, my father was sick and then passed away, and so most of the year was spent dealing with DD's intense anger and depression and not actually doing productive schoolwork. Anything we did do was fun work- art projects, science experiments, etc.

Phonics - 20-30 mins, 3x a week, using Progressive Phonics and library books.

Spelling - 20 mins, 3x a week, AAS 1 and 2.

Literature - everyday, read alouds.

Poetry - everyday, reading good poetry.

Grammar - Not sure how often. Will probably be using FLL1. Going to start in September.

Writing - Starting in February, probably using WWE1.

Math - 30 mins, 5x a week. Finishing up Singapore 1A now, moving on to 1B soon. Supplementing with Miquon.

Science - 20 mins, 5x a week. Finishing up Elemental Science, Intro to Science. When we finish that we will be using ES Biology and the new Sassafras Zoology program.

History - 30 mins, 5x a week using SOTW1, Maps Myths and Marvels, plus more readings and projects gathered from other sources.

Geography - 15 mins, twice a week. Evan Moor Beginning Geography, and using the recommendations found in The Core.

World Cultures - about an hour, twice a week. We do a new country each week, listening to music, reading about it, watching videos on youtube, etc.

Art - 30-60 mins, twice a week. Projects I find online, in library books, on pinterest, etc.

Health - We talk about healthy habits all the time, but schedule something official once a week to satisfy the BOE. Usually a video or quick project of some sort. Looking for a quick and easy workbook I can get to take care of this.

French - At least a little bit every day. Right now not using anything. We have L'art de dire, but don't like it. Probably getting Alex et Zoe in a couple weeks.

Spanish - Starting in Feb. Not sure what we'll be using.

Logic - Using Lollipop Logic (almost done) and learning how to play chess. Going to pick up some more logic games and another logic workbook soon.

Copywork - 5x a week, passages pulled from our memory work and reading.

Music Appreciation - Going to performances, listening to Classics for kids podcasts, reading about composers

Art Appreciation - Picture study

Handicrafts - knitting and clay modeling

Physical Education - Dance class 3 times a week for 50 minutes each, learning to ride a 2 wheeler, a program I put together for at home with flexibility stretches and strength exercises plus cardio, homeschool pe class once a week

Music - violin lessons once a week from September through May, practice for 30 minutes a day otherwise.

Pet care - We're getting a new dog soon and it'll be "her" dog. She's going to take a training course, and I'll be teaching her about grooming, feeding, etc.

It seems like so much, but we school year round, 7 days a week with short lessons. Plus much of it isn't necessarily considered "school", I just like including it to have a record (like the pet care, the music performances, etc.)

Wow! Awesome thread! I love taking a peek at what everyone is using and getting ideas for supplemental stuff while I'm at it. As for me, I have two highschoolers re-enrolling in Malibu Cove High School's homeschooling program. My oldest will be graduating...can't believe how fast time goes by!! And I have two younger ones that I'm using the Seascape Private School curriculum with. We've used it before and love that it's tailored to my kids academic levels. I'm looking for a great art program to add on. Hoping to see suggestions here! :)
