DD-3rd grade

MCT Island Level

WWE-2. (I think I may start this now so we would work on it during summer...haven't decided yet)

ABeka Language 3-I have this but haven't made up my mind if we will be using it or not. I need to sit down with MCT and WWE and decide if it will be helpful.

ABeka spelling 3

ABeka math 3

Ergemyer Bible

A Living History of our World Volume 1-I think?????

Science-I have BJU Science 3. I haven't decided if we are using that or just using it's recommendations to use living books.

Geography-I just bought a fun atlas for kids. We will just start at the beginning and talk about it.

Reading-I am going to schedule in reading more next year and have DD use narration to tell me about the book (WWE style).

I am trying to work away from boxed curriculum and more towards classical/Charlotte Mason style of learning. Neither DD nor I were ready for that the last 2 years but I am feeling more confident in homeschooling, I am ready to branch out.

Little DD-3

We work informally with numbers, letters, shapes, colors. Etc. She knows all the numbers 1-10 by sight and can count to the teens. She knows her letters and some of their sounds like M and H. I think we may do some more phonetic awareness with her. She knows colors and most shapes. I also plan on having her sit beside us for reading time and just let her absorb what she will.

I've added the curricula that I definitely plan to use next year to my siggy.

Reading:

OPGTR with ETC and a few word family books that I got from the scholastic $1 sale. I also have HOP K, which I think we'll use as extra practice. I'm not too thrilled with HOP.

Writing:

A Reason for Handwriting. We're starting ARFW K as soon as it arrives in the mail, so I imagine well start 1st grade by fall or not long after.

Math:

Definitely MUS Alpha. I'm thinking about adding something else b/c while we like MUS, I want to expose her to other methods of doing math. I'm undecided on what else to do b/c I don't want to do too much math.

We'll be doing our second year of Classical Conversations, so that will be our memory work.

Just extra:

FIAR volume 1 with the Christian Character supplement and cookbook. I'm thinking about also getting BFSU and doing some experiments from that too. Anything in this section is just filler and I'm not stressing whether these things get done or not. If we have time, we'll work on these items, but LA, Math, and CC are going to be our basic subjects.

I already posted what I was thinking, but now I'm not sure at all. My homeschool support group has a mom's meeting every month. This week's was about planning for your coming year. I was so challenged to really pray about what God would have our year be like and what He would have us focus on. I am putting all plans on hold for now, so that I can really spend some time in evaluation of myself and the kids trying to let God show me what needs priority.

I left feeling as inspired as I do from a convention. It was awesome!

So far...

G, age 6:

Math: Horizons K and then Horizons 1 when she gets there. Possibly Singapore 1A and 1B to supplement. Jump 1 and Jump at Home 1 for extra practice and review. Possibly Life of Fred more towards the end of the school year.

Reading: Restart HOP 1st grade (she is finishing this up, but is nowhere near ready to move on to 2nd). When this is finished, she'll move on to HOP 2nd. I may research a different phonics program for her though.

Spelling: AAS1 and then AAS2 when she has finished 1.

Science: unsure, but possibly the first stage of science study from WTM, so biology, botany and anatomy.

Social Studies: Possibly SOTW Ancients, but unsure. Waiting to see different curricula at the upcoming Homeschool Convention in Rochester.

Handwriting: Continue HWT, finish K and start 1st with lots and lots of practice and review. Possibly going to start dictation towards the middle to end of the year, depending on how she does.

Creative writing: Possibly WWE. Much will depend on how she progresses with the handwriting piece, which has been and continues to be a challenge for her. I also want to get a good look at different creative writing programs at the upcoming convention.

C, age 5:

Math: Singapore 1a and 1b. I doubt this will hold him until the end of the 2013 school year (he's already on Unit 3 in 1a) so we'll be exploring some additional maths for him as well.

Reading: Finish up 2nd grade HOP and then I'm not quite sure just yet. Lots of chapter books and interest-led reading. He's so far ahead of where he's supposed to be, I'd rather not push too much in this subject.

Spelling: He's finishing up AAS1 very soon and will be starting AAS2. If he progresses through it as quickly as he's progressed through AAS1, I'll look into AAS3 and other options.

Science: Unsure. He has strong self-interests in this topic, so I may let him lead what we explore. But probably following the sequence of science study from WTM.

Social Studies: Possibly SOTW Ancients

Handwriting: HWT 1st grade. Some copywork and dictation

Creative Writing: Possibly WWE.

M, age 4:

Begin Horizons preschool, begin HWT pre-writing skills and prep. Focus on phonemic awareness skills, early math skills.

T, age 3 (by then):

Begin Horizons preschool, but mostly pre-reading and pre-writing skills practice.

Did you change what's in the quote or is the quote the old one?

Also, how often do you do English from the Roots up?

The quote is my original plan. Some things will stay the same but they will both be covering the Modern Times and Shakespeare. I'm also changing some of our LA to TWTM recs.

We use EFTRU a few days a week. We haven't been making our own cards. I found they didn't really help with retention all that much and the kids didn't enjoy doing them. So, we just use the pre-made cards. They love those.

The only things I know for sure are (8th grade):

Analytical Grammar

Foerster's Algebra 1

Glencoe Physical Science

Still working on History, Literature, Writing, Vocab or French for him and I've just started to look at options for the other boys. There are just too many choices!

DS will be in 4th grade. This is all subject to change at any moment, LOL, but I'd like to think I'm pretty well decided.

Math: CLE - finish 400, move to 500. LOTS of supplements, including Life of Fred, Singapore IP &/or CWP, Zaccaro, Beast Academy Guidebooks, and whatever fun reading we find. :D

LA: MCT Town Level, the whole enchilada! We may add supplemental writing like Kilgallon later in the year. We also do WWE (textbook only) with different topics across the curriculum.

History: We'll piece together our own American History using Core Knowledge books as a spine, and adding in additional geography, a unit on government and elections, and probably some states and presidents study.

Science: Mr. Q - starting with Life Science, and then we'll probably get Astronomy/Earth Science.

Language: I think we're dropping full Latin, although we may decide differently. Starting French, first through Mango online, then with a yet-to-be-determined curriculum.

We have plenty of other bits and pieces to add in, but these are the main areas!!

Math: Saxon Algebra

Science: Completing BJU Life Science then BJU Physical Science using distance learning DVDs for all

Geography: TOG (I'm not sure this is enough)

Grammar: Rod and Staff

History: TOG

Writing: IEW SICC-B and ??? The Elegant Essay

Bible: TOG

Literature: TOG

Logic: unsure but I have Mind Benders that I may try and use

Vocabulary: unsure but possibly Vocabulary from Classical Roots

Latin: ??? Not sure if we will go back to this

Foreign Language: Rosetta Stone French

Instead of LL7 I registered dd9 for Landry Academy English 102 which uses MCT and other lit selections.

I ordered 3 Science Fusion modules (A, H, I) for dd9. They look fantastic. The group-buy ends this week. (She will do this instead of Aha!Science which she has almost completed.)

I also purchased Sonlight F (Eastern Hem) from a friend and will use sections of it for our Chinese lit, history, geo.

Hopefully no more changes. (My energy can now be spent helping dd16 navigate his cc choices.)
