The new SL IG's and books - how are they?
manyblessings replied to frugalmama's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
They completely redid the LA, adding in more grammar and changing the writing assignments. -
The new SL IG's and books - how are they?
manyblessings replied to frugalmama's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
This is our forth year of using Sonlight and we love the changes! Never cared for the LA before and the IGs were so scattered that we too skipped a lot of things. But now we love the LA and the new IGs are so much more user friendly. Another thing, I personally love the combined 4 day/5 day. It allows you to add in as you can through the year. We're doing the 4 day condensed since it's our second time with this core but I plan to add books here and there as time allows. -

Anyone else finding it impossible...
manyblessings replied to SunnyDays's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
Curric for the new year has been a massive struggle for me. Worse yet is that today was supposed to be our start back day and I'm still second guessing every single subject.... So yea, you're definitely not alone and probably in a better place then I am bc I've been buying and then second guessing. I've bought enough curric for 10 students, lol. -
Technically, LoF was made to be used as a stand alone math program for the elementary years. You are supposed to have your child work through all ten books and then repeat them again till they are ready for the fractions book. If you look through the website's q&a you will be able to have all your questions answered and maybe it will make more sense. That is what helped me make the decision to use it and we are very happy with our choice! ETA: you are supposed to do a chapter a day, taking more time when needed to concrete a concept.

Can someone link their fb page? -
Core A but I feel it may have had more to do with ages.
-
We use it with other math programs. It is an awesome add on math and my oldest loves it. My second doesn't seem interested at all, but I am hoping it is simply an age thing. We are considering using it as a stand alone program in the higher levels but it will depend on my kids' needs then. I could see my oldest doing well with it though.

No, only a few of the upper levels have them.

Ordinary Parent's Guide and All About Spelling?
manyblessings replied to Swandel's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
We use both at the same time. It is recommended to start at the beginning with AAS no matter what and we have had no issues doing this even when using the OPGTR. -
I bought all curriculum I need for next year!!!

I've gotten about half of what we need next year. REALLY wish I was done already! -
What items are valuable for the get ready for school program? HWOT has so much and I'm at a loss as to what would be worth buying for my 4 yr old.

I have yet to figure out the exact plan of it but my oldest will be using Sentence Island, IEW and WWE next year. It sounds like a lot but they're all very different, and all have a lot to offer. However, my daughter will be 9 and at a forth grade level. I don't think I would do it with a true or young 3rd grader. I wouldn't want to cause future hatred towards writing. My daughter writes freely, on her own and is very motivated to write. Honestly, if I had to choose between all three *I* would pick IEW.

My oldest is just finishing up FLL 3 but I looked over the ALL sample and LOVE it. I really hope it will be available in the near future, because I have yet to find a program for grammar that would fit our family as well! -
What next? About to finish First Language Lessons level 4?
manyblessings replied to a topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
I REALLY hope I missed a new update about ALL, any new info about a release? Idk what we're going to do tbh. I finally decided to stick with the FLL/WWE and ALL/WWS team up. But now that it may not be a possibility I'm back to the drawing board even with my choices for next year with my oldest. -

Are you planning to use it entirely or just bits and pieces? -
My school aged kids will be 9 and 7 this year. We read our cores together but our little ones simply listen if interested during the day and we all cuddle together on the couch for read alouds before bed.
-
If you combine your children into one core which child do you use as your bases for what core to use? I've heard oldest, youngest, and everywhere inbetween. I am trying to truly finalize my choice for this year and am ultimately torn. Dh wants to do core d, going off our oldest, but I worry that it won't really be enjoyed by any of my other kids. Anyways, thanks to anyone who shares!
