Laura Corin
Husband lost his full time job three years ago. He has had a few part-time consulting gigs since. The latest one stopped paying in March, because the company can no longer get the money out of China to pay him (long story). He's not doing any more work for them but is hoping that the issue may resolve itself and he can pick it back up. He has just been offered a new job advising a Chinese company that wants to list in the UK. But because it's not yet incorporated here, he won't get paid until June, when it becomes a legal entity, we hope. We are really, really lucky: we have savings, we have pared our expenses right down, I have a job, we are covered by the NHS, and we have income from a rental flat. But it's really hard on Husband: aged 57 and scratching around for positions. The JAWM is just because we really have looked into a lot of options, both within these two companies and outside, and where we are seems unavoidable. I'll be looking for a full time job once I've proved myself in this position for two years. The good news is that the new job was offered by an agency that specialises in finding people for these kinds of posts, and seems really glad to have found Husband. So there is hope for the future. Two of these jobs at the same time would put us a fair bit above break even after tax. L

LaxMom
Ugh, Laura. That has to be hard on him. Like you pointed out, though, a good agency/headhunter is a great asset. Fingers crossed!
Laura Corin
hugs. btdt. dh ended up starting his own business in his 50's. Yes. Husband has stopped applying for full-time positions. He's now a 'consultant', which means picking up bits and bobs of work. L

Wheres Toto
((hugs)) My dh has just decided it's time to give up on his own company and try to find a regular full time position after sporadic consulting for the past year. He has settled for one position but is hoping to have an interview for a much better opportunity this week. He'll be 58 this summer. The uncertainty sucks. trulycrabby
Not sure I would trust the company that's in the process of incorporating, but you are plenty smart enough to keep on top of the situation. Wishing you and your DH the best of luck. :grouphug:

AlmiraGulch
I suppose there's nothing to lose. I'll hate it if he doesn't end up getting paid, though. Ugh. What a tough spot.
