Bet no one knows this one--it's really a Kate Bush song from 1978, but Pat Benatar covered it in 1980, so it counts! Listen

Out on the wily, windy moors

We'd roll and fall in green

You had a temper, like my jealousy

Too hot, too greedy

How could you leave me

When I needed to possess you?

I hated you, I loved you too

Bad dreams in the night

They told me I was going to lose the fight

Leave behind my wuthering, wuthering

Wuthering Heights

Heathcliff, it's me, I'm Cathy, I've come home

I'm so cold, let me in in your window

Heathcliff, it's me, I'm Cathy, I've come home

I'm so cold, let me in in your window

Oh it gets dark, it gets lonely

On the other side from you

I pine a lot, I find a lot

Falls through without you

I'm coming back love, cruel Heathcliff

My one dream, my only master

Too long I've roamed the night

I'm coming back to his side to put it right

I'm coming home to wuthering, wuthering

Wuthering Heights

Heathcliff, it's me, I'm Cathy, I've come home

I'm so cold, let me in your window

Heathcliff, it's me, I'm Cathy, I've come home

I'm so cold, let me in in a your window

Ooh let me have it, let me grab your soul away

Ooh let me have it, let me grab your soul away

You know it's me, Cathy

I also love the Africa song by Toto. (here)

Clay by Echo and the Bunnymen.

Am I the half of half-and-half

Or am I the half that's whole?

I've got to be one with all my halves

It's my worthy earthly goal

It's my worthy earthly goal

It's my worthy earthly goal

Are you the heavy half

Of the lighter me

Are you the ready part

Of the lighter me

When I came apart

I wasn't made of sand

When you fell apart

Clay crumbled in my hands

Long way a life load

Statues and haloes

Am I the half of half-and-half

Or am I the half that's whole

Am I the half that's whole

Am I the half that's whole

Are you the wrongful half

Of the rightful me

Are you the mongol half

Of the cerebral me

When I came apart

I wasn't made of sand

When you fell apart

Clay crumbled in my hands

When I came apart

I wasn't made of sand

When you fell apart

Clay crumbled in my hands

If we exercise just some control

When we exercise our sum control

Oh isn't it nice

When your heart is made out of ice

Oh isn't it nice

When your heart is made out of ice

Are you the heavy half

Of the lighter me

Are you the ready part

of the hesitant me

Am I the "shall" in po-ten-tial

Or am I the "suck" in "cess"

Pools of delusion

Deluge me

Am I the more or less

Am I the more or less

Am I the more or less

When I came apart

I wasn't made of sand

When you fell apart

Clay crumbled in my hands

When I came apart

I wasn't made of sand

When I was the Cain

You were the Abel

When I came apart

Clay crumbled in my hands

"Rosanna" by Toto was my favorite, but there were a lot of others too. I was a big Bonnie Raitt and Dire Straits fan back then.

That was soooooo long ago! I hate to think of how long ago it was. Makes me want to cry.

Blessings,

Lucinda

LOVE Kate Bush still. My fave (of hers) is Big Sky. :001_smile:

All time favorite 80s tune? Oh. man. That's a tough one...I'll chew on it over dinner. ;)

My Kate Bush fav is This Woman's Work (just squeezes in as a release in 1989). I have all but her last cd and it's on my wish list. :001_smile:

Pray God you can cope.

I stand outside this woman's work,

This woman's world.

Ooh, it's hard on the man,

Now his part is over.

Now starts the craft of the father.

I know you have a little life in you yet.

I know you have a lot of strength left.

I know you have a little life in you yet.

I know you have a lot of strength left.

I should be crying, but I just can't let it show.

I should be hoping, but I can't stop thinking

Of all the things I should've said,

That I never said.

All the things we should've done,

That we never did.

All the things I should've given,

But I didn't.

Oh, darling, make it go,

Make it go away.

Give me these moments back.

Give them back to me.

Give me that little kiss.

Give me your hand.

(I know you have a little life in you yet.

I know you have a lot of strength left.

I know you have a little life in you yet.

I know you have a lot of strength left.)

I should be crying, but I just can't let it show.

I should be hoping, but I can't stop thinking

Of all the things we should've said,

That were never said.

All the things we should've done,

That we never did.

All the things that you needed from me.

All the things that you wanted for me.

All the things that I should've given,

But I didn't.

Oh, darling, make it go away.

Just make it go away now.

by ACDC

Pour Some Sugar On Me by Def Leppard

Oh, there are more, but these two ROCK!

Whitesnake's

has an awesome instrumental solo in the middle of it. What is that? A bass? A cello? I don't know my instruments very well. I love Here I Go Again, too.

What the heck, I can't stop there.

Living On a Prayer

Hmmm, I could go on with the Bon Jovi, Whitesnake, ACDC, and Def Leppard. I could name a few more of Guns 'n' Roses. I really liked me some INXS, too. Then there are all those songs I'm a bit ashamed to say I liked and knew all the words to. Uh, Heart and Soul comes to mind:D As does

one. And this one. Oh and
. Or how about
? Though I'm mostly ashamed of those because of the boyfriend who introduced me to them. Real shame? That comes from the fact that I owned a Men Without Hats CD and dug this song (among others). Oh, and also that I thought this song was very profound. Da doo yeah.

There's no way! I couldn't even narrow it to one album. Here are some faves:

Albums

Squeeze: Singles 45's and Under

Marshall Crenshaw: Marshall Crenshaw

Nitty Gritty Dirt Band: Will the Circle Be Unbroken, Vol 2

Songs

Smiths: How Soon Is Now

Lloyd Cole and the Commotions: Are You Ready to Be Heartbroken

Sting: Love Is the Seventh Wave

Howard Jones: No One Is to Blame / Things Can Only Get Better

And finally, I will admit that I cannot help but dance when I hear The Bangles' Walk Like an Egyptian or anything by Wham. I'm so ashamed.

Anything by Bon Jovi "Slippery When Wet" album and some Prince (not the dirty stuff).

Loved Bon Jovi. Saw them in concert in 1989. So much fun!

And Def Leppard.

And the Thompson Twins.

Oh, and Bryan Adams.

And Duran Duran.

and....:001_smile: should I stop now?

My kids hate it when I play 80's music.

Oh man. I'm so sorry. You know, this means you aren't raising them right - right??? They really do need to appreciate this type of music and it's your responsibility to do that!

My kids love the 80s music that I play!! We've been on a They Might Be Giants kick for a little while. Particle Man, Constantinople, LOVE THEM!!!

I'm all over 80s music ~ although I admit I go in for a lot of 70s music, too. But something there is about that 80s era. And no, it's not just because I spent every afternoon laying out on a dock getting tan and listening to those tunes. It's more than nostalgia, really! I mean, A-ha ~ that iconic Norwegian 80s group ~ was the inspiration behind Coldplay, one of the top bands in the world today.

GOSH, what's my favorite 80s song? Too many, too many. I can still do entire drill team routines to some of this music..."Hey, Mickey, you're so fine, you're so fine you blow my mind..." Okay, that's not really one of my favs. But it does bring back memories.

I was way into, well, all the music...My two best friends (currently featured on my blog) and I wasted who knows how many hours watching videos on VH-1. (The first music I watched, btw, was Fleetwood Mac's "Gypsy", and I couldn't figure out what exactly it was. The concept of showing a "video" while playing a song was totally new. LOL) I had Duran Duran posters up in my room. I loved Journey and Toto. But by far, my bestest was U2. I have friends now ~ adults ~ who have just discovered U2 in the past decade or so. They don't identify at all with the U2 of the 80s. I, on the other hand, spent a month when I was 15 living with just a girlfriend and this guy friend of ours (Mom? Dad? hello-o-o? what were you thinking?!?!) ~ this guy was half-Irish and we listened non-stop to U2. Good stuff, that.

But after all is said and done...

ABBA rules.:D

Jenny, I LOVED Echo and the Bunnymen. Haven't thought of them for quite a while.

I was all over the place in the 80's. I loved The Cure (especially Love Cats); Talking Heads (Burning Down the House album); Bruce Springsteen; U2; loved the song "C'mon Eileen"; and I can't leave out Billy Idol (Rebel Yell).

Apparently U2 has nothing on the Jonas Bros. :glare: My dd just said, "Mom, you're so weird" as she walked away. As soon as they heard Jenni's links playing they came running in to see what I was doing. The only thing they could say was, "Are they wearing wigs?" "What are they doing?" and "This looks old". :001_huh:

I'll just have to keep working on it. Maybe I'll sneak some songs onto their ipods.

Or even a short list! I love a lot of the ones already mentioned but here's my short list:

In Your Eyes by Peter Gabriel

Endless Love by Lionel Richie and Diana Ross

You Spin Me Round Round by Dead Mans Party

Don't you Forget about me by Simple Minds

Sweet Child of Mine by Gun's and Roses (I loved so many of their songs...I had a crush on Axel Rose???? Yikes!)

Boys of Summer by Don Henley

Against all Odds by Phil Collins

I could go on all night long as I love, love, 80's music. My dd won't ever let me listen to it though. "I want to listen to Jesus music, mommy". My kids don't get it in general. I get all excited about a great song from my beloved 80's and crank it up to very loud decimals and they want me to turn the radio down. :001_huh: What's up with that??

As I was reading this post I was wondering who no one would mention the ultimate best of all time - Duran Duran. So, thanks Crazy Coffee Chic. Almost every one you mentioned is a fave of mine.

Also, did anyone hear the song "I Eat Cannibals"? During pom-pon camp one year we did a routine to that song and I loved it. I would have to add that to the list as well.

Recently Duran Duran did a concert that was shown on VH1 and I loved it! I guess you never really grow up ...

Thanks for starting this post - it's bringing back some great memories.
