rookie
I am interested in the first name: Josephine but cannot come up with a middle name. I think it should be monosyllabic but am open to other suggestions. Please share your suggestions.

MariannNOVA
I've had so many aunts and great aunts and friends of our family who were named Josephine -- one syllable or more, there are more than a few names that go well with it. Here are some of my suggestions: Josephine Michele Josephine Michaela Josephine Marie Josephine Elyse Josephine Kate Josephine Emma Josephine Nell I could think of more but I must get back to lesson plans. kalanamak
May Kay Any suitable maiden names in the family tree? My son's middle name is a surname that is sprinkled through the family here and there as a very pretty middle name.

rookie
How many syllables is your last name and what sound does it start with? :):):) I love it that you are thinking about this and helping me! Our last name starts with a W and has two syllables. We do not have a good family name to use. Thank you for all of the ideas shared so far. Keep 'em coming. Mama2Three
Rose or Grace :) Or look at your relatives' names (grandparents, great grandparents, aunts, etc), and maybe you could find a family name that you like.
Hoggirl
any "a" or "e" names. I personally don't like it when a monogram spells out a word and you would wind up with "jaw" or "jew," kwim? But, perhaps that is my own hang up. I like "Marie," "Louise," and (don't laugh!) "Pearl." Really, I love the name "Pearl." I just think those old-fashioned gemstone names are terrific! Alphabetika
Well, dd#2 is middle-named Lee, and dd#3 is middle-named Rae. I think either of these are very nice with Josephine. I love the name Josephine, by the way, totally would have used it if the others would have agreed. :001_smile:
plain jane
I really like Josephine Elizabeth, but her initials would be J.E.W. and I tend to shy away from initials that spell words. How about another name that has a Hebrew origin? The names would flow together nicely: Josephine Aaliyah (initials: J.A.W. :( but sounds pretty) Josephine Gabriela Josephine Naomi Some others, not Hebrew origin: Josephine Olivia Josephine Noelle

Any others? ***DH wanted me to throw Josephine Fiona into the mix ...... is is too much "F"? For authors/characters, how about Josephine Emerson Josephine Isabel or Josephine Archer Josephine Bronte Josephine Eowyn Josephine Charlotte Josephine Beatrice Josephine Finnegan Josephine Frances (for Frances Hodgson Burnett) and you could always go with Josephine Scarlett  Edited January 18, 2010 by 3littlekeets

Danestress
Unless you want to use both names when you address her, I think a polysyllabic name would be just fine. I might pick something with a french sound to it. I actually think that a stronger middle name balances Josephine nicely Josephine Annette Josephine Marie Josephine Paulette Josephine Noel Josephine Suzanne Josephine Therese Josephine Thea Josephine Sarah

Ali in OR
Another vote for Grace here. Josephine is a very traditional name. To me it just doesn't sound right to pair it with a modern newly discovered name. Needs to be a little old fashioned.
