PSA: if you order glasses for the eclipse....

There are phoney glasses being sold.

Verify that they meet the specified requirements

And that the address/ country of origin matches the manufacturer.

I ordered Americal Paper Optics from  Amazon, and ours say they are from Tennessee.  A friend ordered from Amazon and they say they were made in China.  THey are definitely knock offs. but they gave the same information in the ad as mine did. She notified Amazon, but there isn't much they will do about it.

Just wanted to remind people to check what they have ordered to make sure they are adequate and legitimate products.

Just FYI, when I check the Amazon ones linked above, it says shipping is in 1-2 months. Probably better to order them directly from Celestron.

When I called, Celestron told me they didn't have that four set in stock any longer. Individually purchased are more expensive. I plan to share glasses among family members. Also, some libraries are holding programs and distributing as well. I found out, after I ordered a pair of individual glasses from Celestron, that my library is giving glasses away a couple of weeks before the event. (We live within a couple of hours of totality).

OK, I don't know what to think.  :(  I feel like I got a mish mash of glasses and only 2, possibly 4 of the 10 seem to be made by American Paper Optics.

2 have the ISO number and logo and "The 3D Shop Limited, London, UK FDA No. *******" but then stuff about compliance labs in China or something.

2 only say CE Certified but don't have any other legit looking info.

2 have the ISO number and logo but no manufacturer info.

2 seem to have ALL the info, including American Paper Optics with their TN address.

2 have the ISO info and logo and SAY American Paper Optics but don't have their address.

NOT happy.

Anyone else get ripped off?

Am I the only cheapskate going the binoculars projection/pinhole route? We'll only see part of it and we've gotten so many cloudy days that I don't want to spring for equipment that we can use for a few minutes. I figure I'll experiment a few days ahead so we can watch if it's not raining. Then we'll watch online when someone uploads the full visibility version.

I do own 2D glasses, so clearly I'm not above making obscure eyewear purchases. 😎

Do you have a link for how to do this?  There are 8 of us and I was hoping to not have to pass around only 1 or two viewing devices which is why I wanted glasses for everyone.  Argh.

That's what I usually do during eclipses, but this time I want the glasses/viewers.

I ordered the approved ones from Amazon, I am a bit worried they will turn out to be knock offs.

#14 welding glass can be used, that's what we used years ago. I'm tempted to pick some up locally to make sure I have something safe.
