Tap
There are phoney glasses being sold. Verify that they meet the specified requirements And that the address/ country of origin matches the manufacturer. I ordered Americal Paper Optics from Amazon, and ours say they are from Tennessee. A friend ordered from Amazon and they say they were made in China. THey are definitely knock offs. but they gave the same information in the ad as mine did. She notified Amazon, but there isn't much they will do about it. Just wanted to remind people to check what they have ordered to make sure they are adequate and legitimate products.
Lanny
If I was near there and had the funds I would look on the website of a reputable company like Celestron. Do not risk your vision... Sent from my SM-G355M using Tapatalk
Elizabeth86
Could you post the link of the ones you did order. I need to get some.
Tess in the Burbs
I had the same issue on Amazon. Knock off tried to negotiate refund as well. Scammers! I ordered from Classical Astronomy after the Amazon flop
vickjul
The first ones we ordered from Amazon were Chinese knock-offs. We are returning them at Amazon's expense. Amazon covers return shipping costs for any "not as described" products, then recoups the money from the third=party seller.
gstharr
The Celestron outlet site has 4pair/$15, with free shipping. The 30 money back guarantee for any reason has me going hmmmm.
flyingaway
This post got me worried, so I double checked ours. So happy. They're exactly the ones in the OP link.
PinkTulip
Just FYI, when I check the Amazon ones linked above, it says shipping is in 1-2 months. Probably better to order them directly from Celestron.
dsmith
I purchased these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XQ5VK7C/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 They are made in the USA and certified, so hopefully they will be ok. A few reviewers tested them by looking at the sun and gave a positive review. They are coming tomorrow.
HeWillSoar
Also FYI, Walmart had a bunch of the glasses for around $1 a piece.

HeWillSoar
Made in the US and certified? I didn't look closely since I had already ordered mine from Amazon.
sbgrace
Just FYI, when I check the Amazon ones linked above, it says shipping is in 1-2 months. Probably better to order them directly from Celestron. When I called, Celestron told me they didn't have that four set in stock any longer. Individually purchased are more expensive. I plan to share glasses among family members. Also, some libraries are holding programs and distributing as well. I found out, after I ordered a pair of individual glasses from Celestron, that my library is giving glasses away a couple of weeks before the event. (We live within a couple of hours of totality). rjand6more
Ha! I bought some today off amazon. I checked and the ones I ordered are on the safe list. I will check when I receive them that they are not a fake.
6packofun
Argh. I ordered some from American Paper Optics off Amazon...I will just have to wait and see if they are legit.
dancingmama
Check with your local museums also. Ours are selling some for $2-3.

6packofun
OK, I don't know what to think. :( I feel like I got a mish mash of glasses and only 2, possibly 4 of the 10 seem to be made by American Paper Optics. 2 have the ISO number and logo and "The 3D Shop Limited, London, UK FDA No. *******" but then stuff about compliance labs in China or something. 2 only say CE Certified but don't have any other legit looking info. 2 have the ISO number and logo but no manufacturer info. 2 seem to have ALL the info, including American Paper Optics with their TN address. 2 have the ISO info and logo and SAY American Paper Optics but don't have their address. NOT happy. Anyone else get ripped off?
KungFuPanda
Am I the only cheapskate going the binoculars projection/pinhole route? We'll only see part of it and we've gotten so many cloudy days that I don't want to spring for equipment that we can use for a few minutes. I figure I'll experiment a few days ahead so we can watch if it's not raining. Then we'll watch online when someone uploads the full visibility version. I do own 2D glasses, so clearly I'm not above making obscure eyewear purchases. 😎
maize
I did the projection route when we had a partial eclipse a few years ago; it worked great!
6packofun
Am I the only cheapskate going the binoculars projection/pinhole route? Do you have a link for how to do this? There are 8 of us and I was hoping to not have to pass around only 1 or two viewing devices which is why I wanted glasses for everyone. Argh. Rachel
I ordered the approved ones from Amazon, I am a bit worried they will turn out to be knock offs. #14 welding glass can be used, that's what we used years ago. I'm tempted to pick some up locally to make sure I have something safe.
