SKL
My daughter got black grease stains on her nearly-new, expensive, cream-colored riding breeches. I tried "Zout," which did little to help it. What can I do to save these breeches?

Lawana
Rub liquid laundry detergent directly on the stain. Work it into the fabric, then wash.
May
Hydrogen peroxide directly on the stain? First pour a little on a place you wouldn’t notice in case it does lighten the fabric. I’ve also used Goo Gone, spot and stain remover with great success. Edited October 24, 2019 by May Additional information
Jaybee
I've used Dawn dish liquid before. Put it liberally on the stained areas and rub it in thoroughly. Let it sit for awhile, then wash.
MysteryJen
My best results came from scrubbing Dawn liquid on the stain, making sure it penetrated the fibers and sprinkling it with baking soda, making a paste. Let is sit for a couple of hours and then wash. The Dawn really needs to get into the fibers- not just sit on top.
Frances
I just recently got an old grease stain out of a nice sweater. I rubbed liquid dish soap into the stain and then soaked it overnight in a mixture of warm water and Oxyclean. Then laundered normally.
plansrme
I've used WD-40 with success on a particularly-stubborn grease stain. I don't know why it works, but if you google it, you can find instructions. I believe the theory is that the WD-40 reactivates the stain and makes it like a fresh one. I have no idea if the science is valid, but if nothing else works, maybe it is worth a shot.

BeachGal
Get as much of the black gunk out with different stain removers. Apply Dawn liberally and rub it in. Boil a teakettle full of water and apply the boiling water over the stain so that the water drains through.

HS Mom in NC
1 part regular Dawn dish washing detergent (which cuts grease) + 2 parts newly opened hydrogen peroxide (a color safe bleaching agent). Pour into spray bottle and shake well. Spray onto stains until saturated and rub enough powdered Oxyclean into the soaked stains to make a thick paste. Roll pants up around the soaked stains to keep it from drying out. Add to it every day for 3-7 days by repeating the above steps and then wash in the washer. Rinse as many times as is necessary to get the mixture out. I got spaghetti sauce stains completely out of a white sweater this way.

Melissa in Australia
grease comes out beautifully with Petrol. It just stinks terribly afterwards. thought the smell eventually goes away.
StephanieZ
THE cure is simply rubbing some Dawn dishsoap into the stain before washing. It's magic. I fought and fought with grease stains for decades before someone told me that trick.
