Reply All

StartUp Podcast*

Mystery Show

StartUp Podcast is really cool. This guy (Alex someone from Planet Money and This Amrrican Life) wants to start a podcast company, so season one is of him starting his company. Season two (which just ended) is about a different company. So far, his startup company (Gimlet Media, I think) had already created two other podcasts - Reply All and Mystery Show. Also, I have nothing to do with any of these...I just like them. :)

I LOVED Serial! I also love Stuff You Should Know. Sometimes I listen to A Slob Comes Clean and I also enjoy the Read Aloud Revival. Elise Gets Crafty is good but I don't listen to every episode. Just discovered Mystery Show and it's fantastic.

TED Radio Hour - they take little excerpts from TED talks and interviews and combine it into a great hour of listening.

Read Aloud Revival - one of my favorite podcasts.

99% Invisible - I just started listening but it seems enjoyable. I've only listened to two, so take my recommendation lightly.

CIRCE Institute is coming out with a bunch of new podcasts. I like The Mason Jar - talks about Charlotte Mason's work.

Are there other places to look for these (for those of us that don't own any Apple products).

Stitcher radio is what I used before I got an iphone: https://www.stitcher.com/

Lots of great ideas up there!

I listen to a few different NFL podcasts, the Alton BrownCast, Gymcastic (gymnastics), StoryWonk and when I'm in the office, various NPR podcasts.

The only one that I listen to that I haven't seen mentioned yet is The Moth podcast.

Oh! Thank you, I need to re-subscribe to that one. My phone "forgot" all my subscriptions a while back and I had to try and remember what I had :). The Moth was definitely one of them.

Ah, stupid question, but where does one go to subscribe to these podcasts? Do they notify you when new podcasts are available in a series?

If you have an account at the Apple store you can access through there.  They are all free!

You can set up your download schedule to automatically download new episodes or to check however often you want for new one.

On my phone I can see how many new episodes I have or how many I haven't listened to yet.

  • 2 weeks later...

Some great leads here that I didn't know about!

Currently I'm exploring just a few, but with a new wireless speaker am ready for more.

http://www.worldmag.com/podcast/

is a daily (well, almost) news roundup from World Magazine, a Christian bi-weekly print magazine branching out into a website and audio materials. I just listen on my computer--I don't have an iphone or anything like that. You can listen whenever you want.

Once a week they do a longer interview with someone interesting:

http://www.worldmag.com/podcast/listeningin/

I think the World podcasts are available at iTunes.

This isn't exactly a podcast but here you can listen to sermons from a large number of churches:

http://sermonaudio.com/

There have been some threads over at the bilingual board on Spanish resources and so on, and there are some online audio materials listed there.

In fact, I'll give my favorite online Spanish Bible:

http://www.biblia-cristiana.com/la-biblia-en-audio

It's the Reina Valera 1960. Again not officially a podcast, but audio you can listen to anytime you can get online. A beautiful, expressive, reverent reading with just a few voices.
