ILiveInFlipFlops
I just read that :( It's especially sad to me because I've just finished working my way through the Anne books again. And in my mind Gil is inextricably linked with a guy I had a HUGE crush on at the time, who looked quite a bit like Crombie. It was jarring to read the news, to say the least. I'm very sorry for his family. It sounds like this was completely unexpected.
indigomama
I just saw that. It is so sad. I obviously didn't know him in real life, but his personality through his character seemed so sweet and kind.

Tsuga
That is terrible. Very sorry for his whole family. I will say that I was a bit confused when I clicked... What could it mean that he died? This is much worse, unfortunately.
Arctic Bunny
I came to post the same thing. I'm reading Anne to my boys right now - tonight's chapter is going to be so sad!

AnnE-girl
Even though I'm still bitter that Kevin Sullivan strayed so far from the books, Jonathan Crombie was the perfect Gilbert. So very sad :-(

IfIOnly
:crying: We actually have an 8 year old Gilbert. He was mostly named after his great-grandpa, but def. after Anne's Gilbert Blythe, as well. Not that my son knows that though! :) My son's middle name is also Matthew. Again a family name, but we've always thought how wonderful the qualities of these two book/movie characters were.

foxbridgeacademy
I had such a crush on him when I was a kid. I read all the Anne, Rilla, and Emily books and thought the actor did an exceptional job of capturing that thing that made the character so great.
