iamrachelle
Which way do you load silverware in your dishwasher. Handles up or handles down? I load mine handles up...:D
Truscifi
Handles down, except knives. They go handles up.
m0mmaBuck
I need an "other" I try to do half and half.... In my mind, that would mean the water would have a better chance of hitting everything since it would be more spread out (harder for the spoons and forks to nest against each other). In the Rain
I usually do handles up. It kind of grosses me out to watch the clean silverware be unloaded and handled by the portion that goes in my mouth.

I would feel the same if ours did, but it's mounted in the door. We put the caddy of clean silverware on the counter right above the silverware drawer, then open the caddy and unload by the handles. Melissa in Australia
handles down, just like the instructions for my dishwasher said. I hand-wash all sharp knives.

EmilyinND
I don't know if this is true or not, but I read that the bacteria & whatever in the water drips down the silverware then settles, I didn't want that left on the part that goes in my mouth. (Although I use the sanitizing cycle on mine, so it probably doesn't matter anyway...) I have one that mounts on the door, so we unload them by the handles. Parrothead
Handles up across the board because that is the way dh prefers it. On this one thing I do let him have his way since he is extremely bothered by it.
Ellie
Neither. Both. :) I mix 'em all up, so the spoons don't nest with each other, and the forks don't next with each other. They don't always get clean (or dry, for that matter) if they're nesting.

ashfern
I need an "other" for both. Our dishwasher has the slots for silverware. So the knives have to go handle up and everything else is handle down. That's the only way it will fit.
KidsHappen
Handles up so that the part that needs the most washing is closets to the water sources and the knive blades are down. Plus I don't have to sort through and put some up and some down.

Laura Corin
Where's the 'other' button? We have a silverware rack at the top of our washer on which we lay our cutlery flat. Laura
