love2read
Really, after 20 years of homeschooling you'd think I would have this down to a science, but most days I'm still trying to thaw chicken or that made-ahead casserole 30 minutes before we're due to eat. Shesh.
LaxMom
You're addled from 20 years of the crazy. ;) Seriously, you would not believe what I send myself text reminders about.
Starr
That's what I use the microwave for; finishing the thawing. I did this my whole life, it shouldn't be so hard but... Mom would leave a note telling us what to take out of the freezer for dinner and we would leave it on the counter all day. :D
*********
Based on *my* house? It's pretty hard. Almost impossible, some days. :D

justasque
Rig up a reminder system. I used Yahoo Mail to send me an email every day till I got the hang of it. I rarely eat from the freezer now, but when I did, it really helped to establish the habit.
zookeeper
The majority of my dinners go straight from the freezer to the oven/crock pot. I never remember to thaw things. :glare:

KungFuPanda
You need an iPhone. Just tell Siri "Remind me to thaw the chicken tomorrow at two." And she DOES! Yes, the technology is necessary because it IS hard.
Pamela H in Texas
You should have had a poll. The first choice should have been "nearly impossible." I would gladly have voted my truth :)
Pink Fairy
Very, very difficult. Just ask my dh, who either forgets to take the meat out, or forgets to put it in the fridge before bed so we have to throw it out in the morning.
love2read
I'd love to see this as a poll, but have no idea how to do that. Please set it up if you can :)
MamaT
I used to have this problem, but found a solution that works for me. Since we started buying our meat in bulk, I just make menus for the week and then immediately get the meat we'll need for those meals out of the freezer and put it in the refrigerator. swellmomma
ha ha i only remember when I actually write it on my to do list, I am better of taking it out the night before when i am thinking about what I am cooking for dinner. So while I am cooking tonight's dinner I am thinking ahead to tomorrow's dinner and take out meat right then to thaw for the next night. It works really well for the most part. Chris in VA
I never thaw things out early. I use the microwave.
ktgrok
I thaw in cold water in the sink for this very reason.
Robin M
All the time. I try to take things out around 4:00 to start defrosting. I cheat though and use heat sinks. Hubby's an electronic repair guru. Discovered they make wonderful defrosters. Myeightkiddies
I'm disappointed that this wasn't a poll. I was all ready to check the "It's very, very - almost ridiculously - hard to remember" box.

Yes, but that still requires advanced planning....not the usual 5:30pm "Oh carp, what are we going to have for dinner? Everything is frozen solid.":D You really do have the right idea MamaT. I am sure it is soooo much easier and healthier to have things planned out. I am inspired now!
KidsHappen
Much easier than remembering to take the beer out of the freezer that you just put in there ten minutes ago. Beer expands, glass does not. :glare:
annandatje
Re thawing chicken. We almost exclusively buy chicken tenderloins now instead of full chicken breasts. The tenderloins thaw much quicker; we buy the multi-packs at Costco and cut off one or two of the packs for dinner. Submerge unopened packs in cold water a few minutes. Of course, if you're thawing a whole chicken, you're out of luck because it takes quite awhile even in a cold water bath.

love2read
OK, I created a poll and I'm going to go down to the freezer right now. Thanks to those organized moms who inspired me to plan ahead.
Virg
Based on *my* house? It's pretty hard. Almost impossible, some days. :D :iagree::iagree: Yeah, about that, I always have the best laid plans and we usually end up eating only 3/7 meals I thought ahead about each week. Shesh. Hard. It doesn't enter the radar on my list of priorities, and defrosting is almost always an afterthought. On the other hand, I can look at what does actually get done around here, and I'm happy! (Usually, it's not the tangible stuff anyone can see though.) :001_smile:
QuirkyKapers
Hardly ever remember. This is why I should consider becoming vegetarian :)
MamaSheep
It really depends on the day, but half the time even if I remember to go out to the freezer (we have a chest freezer in the garage), by the time I get there I've forgotten what it was I was supposed to get. 3monkeys
Glad to know I'm not the only one! Maybe it's in our subconscious to "forget" because we really don't want to cook in the first place!
Cindyg
It's part of my doing-the-dishes routine. I turn on the dishwasher, and then I take something out of the freezer for tomorrow night. I put it in the fridge, and it's fine when I'm ready to start dinner.
