cdrumm4448
We were getting in to the truck recently to go home from 4-H. I was parked under a tree and my son was just standing there, talking. All of a suddent he started yelling, "A bird POOPED on my head!" I looked and sure enough, a bird dropped a really big poop on his head. I immediately started laughing because it was so absurd. He got angry and thought I was making fun of him. I explained to him that getting pooped on is good luck (at least for Italians!) He didn't believe me and didn't care. We wiped up the poop and he went home to take a shower. He still brings it up. So, do you think it's good luck to get pooped on?
LisaKinVA
an amusing thought... but at the time I was "pooped" upon by a bird (8th grade, at school), I didn't feel it lucky at all.
abbeyej
I've heard it before, but I think my revulsion far outstrips any hope of "luck". ;)
Julie Smith
I have heard that if a bird poops on your face/head and you get some in your eye it can lead to a infection that could cause blindness. (Does that sentence have enough "ifs" and "mays" in it.
Matryoshka
Well, that's certainly a glass-half-full outlook (or making lemonade out of life's lemons!) But sorry, I don't think I would feel at all lucky (except in the bad-luck vein) if I got pooped on by a bird. Yuck! :ack2:
Heather in Neverland
I don't believe in luck so, no.
SailorMom
I don't believe in luck - so I voted "other".... :D
DawnM
I have never heard that. I don't believe in luck either, but I do know the sayings that go along with luck. Dawn
stephanier.1765
On our first outing to the beach this year, I got pooped on by a seagull. Didn't feel one bit lucky especially when everyone else was laughing their heads off. But if there is good luck attached to bird poo then I shared it with everybody since I made sure to wipe it off on those laughing fools. :D
chepyl
I don't believe in luck; plus, my SIL was popped on as she stuck her ARM out of the car window at the bank drive through. She now has the worst time with cars. Four cars she has driven since then have broken down....not all old bunkers either! One brand new that she borrowed yesterday....the a/c went out! myfunnybunch
I think it's something an Italian mother told her outraged child long ago, and the whole idea spread from there. ;) Cat
JFSinIL
No - if you had good luck you wouldn't get pooped on by a bird! ;)
reign
That's funny. I've never heard of that! I have been pooped on and it didn't feel lucky.
Carpe
I've heard that from people of a number of different cultures. I however still don't believe it. I think it's incredibly bad luck because the bird has so much space to poop in and my head takes up less than a square foot. The odds are very slim that a bird will poop on me. TrixieB
Definitely not. Especially if you go out for a walk during your lunch hour at work, and a crow takes aim as you walk under the streetlight he's perched on. And he successfully targets your head. No, not good luck at all.

NanceXToo
No, but I am not even remotely "superstitious" and don't believe in things being good or bad luck.

eternalknot
I believe in luck, but we associate crickets with good luck; not bird poop :P I like that the Italians found the silver lining to being pooped on by a bird :D
Denise in Florida
I have heard the good luck thing before, but I still would rather not get pooped on. :tongue_smilie: I voted yes because it is an established good luck sign. If you had asked if I would feel lucky if a bird pooped on me, I would have voted no.
mytwomonkeys
no. in my book, being pooped on is definitely not good fortune, lol.

Satori
Well it isn't for my half-sister. She's severely allergic to birds and getting pooped on landed her in the hospital. I got pooped on last month, but don't believe in luck, so I just wiped it off. :)
Teachin'Mine
I've heard it said. But I've only heard it said by someone standing near the person who was pooped on and never by the person pooped on themselves. ;) It's definitely a matter of perspective. WishboneDawn
I think where there's a bit of chance involved perhaps. I was pooped on three times yesterday, but then I was snuggling little 2 week old laying chicks at the time so when you're tempting fate like that, no, no good luck. :D
Night Elf
Heck to the No! And I would have reacted just like your son. I would have been embarrassed and angry that someone was laughing at me. But that's just me, and I'm not Italian so what do I know? So really, you would be totally fine and laugh at yourself if a bird pooped on you? I would be so grossed out! I would be washing my hair multiple times that day. For that to be justified, I would expect something really super great to happen to me afterwards since I was so blessed with luck. LucyStoner
I think this is an example of learned optimism. Good way to put a positive on a negative. That said, no. I have never heard of it before this thread as being a good luck sign.

mandymom
My very first day of college, I was standing under a tree to cross the street to go to my very first class. I was wearing a white shirt with a big sailor collar (the style at the time). A bird pooped from up above and it landed on my white collar! I couldn't go back to the dorm or I would miss my first class (and I was NOT going to miss my first class of college). I barely had time to make it to the bathroom before class (of course I had to find it first). I didn't feel lucky at all that day!
Audrey
I think I would call it lucky if the bird pooped on you and in wiping it off you turned just enough to the side that the suddenly unsuspended piano 6 stories up just missed smashing your brains all over the sidewalk. Otherwise, no.
lauracolumbus
No, and I'm Italian. I had a bird poop on me in junior high just as I was getting on the school bus. I didn't realize what it was until too late. Ugh. Took a while to live that one down. So, bad memories for me w/bird poop. Laura
