Perry
Eight million gallons of water drained from reservoir after man urinates in it I think this might be the stupidest thing I've ever heard. I guess they don't realize that fish and ducks and all sorts of other creatures use the water as their restroom. :cursing:
Lara in Colo
As if you don't drink more pee in the community pool!

Virg
I glanced at the article and then busted up laughing. Of COURSE this would be Portland LMBO! I love my home state but I swear the things they come up with.... 6-8 oz of urine in 80 million gallons of water. Yeah, that should be an issue :glare:
momofkhm
You have to wonder how many people peed in the lake that weren't caught on camera. If they hadn't told everyone, no one would know!
AuntieM
I think they oughtta deduct $36,000 from that Water Bureau administrator's paycheck. Those were hard earned public dollars. How many people have relieved themselves in that reservoir that *weren't* caught on video? Stupid, stupid, stupid.... but who let it actually happen? What's wrong with the process, that nobody called this "Stupid" loud enough to stop this from actually taking place? I mean, it takes more than one man to pull the plug on a reservoir that size. Mama2Many4
What about the millions of birds that fly over the reservoir and carp in it? Did they ever take that into consideration. They should drain and refill daily then.
Wabi Sabi
I don't believe that article for one minute. I call B.S.
Unicorn.
Do they not treat the water before it makes it's way into people's homes? Are people allowed to swim in this lake, because I guarantee if people are swimming in it, they are peeing in it! Govt. stupidity at it's finest!! In the Rain
In another article, David Shaff was quoted as saying paint cans, bagged dog poop and dead animals are occasionally found in the reservoir. I can't believe he finds urine more offensive than dead animals. :001_huh:
Snickerdoodle
I did not read the article. In California, don't they use the reservoirs for boating, fishing and camping sites?
Perry
I don't believe that article for one minute. I call B.S. I wondered too, but I googled and there are lots of articles about it. Hard to believe.

twoxcell
I live in Oregon and have never heard of this before, but we don't live in that area. BatmansWife
You have to wonder how many people peed in the lake that weren't caught on camera. If they hadn't told everyone, no one would know! :iagree: What happens to all the fish and everything when they drain it? I found this humorous: He apologised publicly for his behaviour, adding: "It was a stupid thing to do. I didn't know it was a water supply, I thought it was a sewage plant."I wouldn't mind paying for it but I don't have a job right now. I'm willing to do community service to clean up the place because I feel bad and feel pretty stupid." Sergeant Pete Simpson, of Portland Police, said: "It's really an unfortunate incident that probably could have been avoided if he had just chosen a bush." :smilielol5: :smilielol5:
jenniferlee
Yes, it's actually a true story. And yes, they caught it on camera, so they knew whether he told or not. And yes, you can drink your own urine straight from your body. Some people do it for health reasons. Dont ask why I know this. and don't do it first thing in the morning
mcconnellboys
And how would the public ever have known if it wasn't reported? Are the security camera videos broadcast live on the news? How incredibly dumb....
chicagoshannon
I'd much rather drink that water with urine in it then the bird poop and dead animals. YUCK! I can't believe they don't clean this water before people drink it! They clean the water and THEN put it in the OPEN reservoir. GROSS, GROSS, GROSS! cat
so the water goes directly from the lake to the homes to drink..... really? it's not filtered ..... i find that hard to believe.
Sandy in KY
I saw this too- immediately thought of how long it took me to teach my boys that we do not pee in the bathwater! Somehow we all survived :-)
SonshineLearner
I'm outside PDX, and have to say it's stupid. Isn't urine suppose to be sterile, and it's a cup or so of water...

BatmansWife
So....where does this water go when it's drained?? How do they get the water back? I mean.....seriously. I have no clue how they do this. And....wouldn't you think that by the time they do all of this and fill the reservoir with water again....that some prankster is gonna do this on purpose....AGAIN.
