Hive, you're letting me down. You're my source of online insanity

Recommended Posts

This was posted in a blog at Secret Keeper Girl. They were originally called "push up bikini". Can you believe that! After outcry it appears they changed the name but are still selling the product. Light lining is one thing, as my budding dd needs that, but full out padding and "push up"?

It was your turn to introduce the insanity. And boy, did you!:D

Oh hey! Now that's a way to look at it! *izproud*

:glare:

I was out buying my daughter's first bras (more of a trainer) and found padded bras in her size. No stinkin' way!

You know, are there *any* non padded bras out there? I can't find many.

And, for some adults, like me, who would otherwise have to bandaide herself down, they have a purpose although I hate them. But the idea that you are not big enough (and yes, some totally sell to that spectrum with the *increase up to one full size!*) which is heard as you are not beautiful enough/big enough, never enough... that I totally agree with.

Well, every bathing suit needs lining, but padding is waaayyyyy far from lining.

I really hope this is a huge bomb of an item for them.

As far as bras for women (not girls) are concerned, I do appreciate the ones that hold their shape. Not the older styled padded ones (the ones that seem to have quilt batting--they get lumpy), but the ones that seem sort of foamy. It helps even things out when you're not the same on both sides. ;)

Not just the padded bras but I have found it to be a clothing problem across the board. Ever since my daughters grew out of Toddler sizes and my beloved Carter's clothes, it had gotten increasing difficult to find my daughters respectable clothing without going into debt over it. If it isn't padded bathing suits, it is low cut pants and revealing halter tops.

Nothing about that company surprises me. Their catalogs are just shy of porn magazines with underage kids in them. They're just nasty.

:iagree:Years ago, I got a catalog from them in the mail (randomly, I've never spent money at A&F and never, ever will). The cover featured a guy in bed between two girls. I called and complained and demanded that my name be removed from their mailing list. We don't have an A&F in my area, but we were recently at Union Square in SF and they have larger-than-life, mostly naked pictures pasted all over their storefront.

Yes, they were the ones that featured thong underwear for children:

They were also the ones that sold a t-shirt that featured two stereotypically drawn Chinese figures and said "Wong Brothers Laundry Service--Two Wongs Can Make It White".

I think I'd actually pay money NOT to shop at A&F.

Well, girl, you DEFINITELY brought on the crazy!!! LOL

This is absolutely sick, and yes I remember when they did the thong thing too... :ack2:

We are a pretty conservative family... no bikini's, heck hubby isn't even comfortable with sleeveless dresses and tops  Finding dresses during Spring/Summer months WITH sleeves is like looking for a needle in a haystack... especially in TX!!! We usually buy the kids' clothes at Gymboree, Crazy 8, Kohls, and Target.

Weren't they the store that caused the uproar over the thongs for little kids in the undies department?

Yes, I believe so.

The whole thing just makes me ill.

BTW, can I just say that for this, I love this board? We're reliably unhappy about this sort of thing. Another board I frequent had people defending those tops.

It's things like this that make me glad I do not have a girl. However, I still cringe because how do I protect my boys from oversexed-looking young girls?

I HATE the idea that sex sells so let's make it for all ages. I yearn for modesty to return to our society. I'm not holding my breath though.

AAAAAAAAAAAA.... my oldest just announced she is budding. My time to buy trainers is right around the corner and now I have to contend with padded trainers???? AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA:w00t::willy_nilly:

OTOH, there are 8yos wearing bras in dd's dance class because they really need the support. If my dd was starting to develop, I think I'd be looking for a padded swimsuit for her for the same reason I wear one. I'd rather be padded than have my nipples be visible.

You know, for a split second I thought about that, too, but IF my 8 yo was that developed, she'd wear that bikini over my dead body. Lands End will work just fine.

Lands End usually has at least a few summer dresses with sleeves to choose from, if that helps.

Thank goodness for Land's End. My daughter turns 7 this week. She is still such a little, little girl. I am so queasy right now. I worry about who she will spend time with as she gets to be 10 and 12. My friends who have daughters that age fight this kind of insanity, but they describe an uphill battle even in our little corner here.

When my daughter and I went, all I could find was padded trainers! Luckily I was able to find non-padded trainers in a little kids' size six. So did you hear me? um, a size six? I mean it fits my scrawny almost 12yo daughter perfectly and I was glad to find them, rather than the padded options, but what six year old needs a bra??? So what I'm gathering is that we start our daughters in bras as soon as they are out of the toddler sizes, and by the time they need the trainers, then they graduate to padding? um, ok.

My teen is so small that bras her size are meant for 20+yo. She wants padding for modesty's sake, but she doesn't want those push-ups. ugh

Just wait. It gets worse. :glare: If it's not tight, it's low-cut. It's almost impossible to find nice, respectable, affordable clothing for teens.

Absolutely agree . Let's destroy their dignity and self image by teaching them that they are inferior at a nice young age. Grotesque.

:iagree:

I see a lot of you complaining that A&F sells this. Would they sell it if no one bought it? No. My concern is for the parents who seem to think this is acceptable to buy their daughters.

My sister runs with a crowd of women who would buy this stuff. Apparently there is great peer pressure on the kids to wear it and on the moms to buy it. It seems many of them cave to the pressure.
