I have to go see a liver specialist and I'd appreciate prayers.

Recommended Posts

I just got back from seeing my GI doctor and I received my liver biopsy results.

I have inflammation in both parts of the liver (I forget how he described the two parts). On a scale from 1-4, one is a 2 and one is a 3 (he described the 3 as significant). I also have more scarring than he would expect to see in someone my age and health. I also have very little fat, so that part doesn't line up with fatty liver disease (which was the previous theory). I haven't touched any alcohol since I was 19.

He did an upper GI on me in September, and I had inflammation in my esophagus. I have bilateral pain in my hands, thumbs, fingers, elbows, shoulders and toes (that is getting more severe), but my ANA is negative and my SED rate isn't ever elevated. I've been getting a tightness in my chest, and I'm never rested. I don't remember the last time I felt good.

He told me he has no answers and doesn't know what's going on. I lost 85+ pounds in 2006, so he wonders if somehow it could be residual and is now clearing up, but my alt/ast numbers were normal until October 2009 so it doesn't really make sense to either of us that my previous obesity and weight loss would be the cause.

So now, I get to go to a liver specialist in a major city an hour away. I'm scared, and I'd like answers. The question marks are wearing on me. I really appreciate your prayers.

ETA: I forgot to mention that I still haven't told my parents or brother anything about this, so if you know me on FB, please don't mention this over there :).

You are in my thoughts and prayers. :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug: Something that may help, as my dd30 began to get sick and was not getting better, there were many liver issues that were tested - biopsies, genetic tests. Turns out that a genetic test for whether or not her body produces glutathione answered most of the liver issues. She takes it now as a supplement. Anyway, I know how hard the waiting is -- there very likely is a simple answer to all of this.:grouphug::grouphug::grouphug:
