Halcyon
I'm kinda kidding. We're going there on Friday and DH is like "that's totally educational!"
Ellie
Absolutely. :D
Luckymama
Hey, dd did one of those educational events there a few summers ago. If it had been during the school year I so would have counted it!
MinivanMom
Yes! We have to count instructional days in our state and I always count our Epcot and Animal Kingdom days as "educational field trips". They are educational, but Magic Kingdom or water park days - not so much. No wonder I always wind up with well over 200 instructional days each year. I.Dup.
Are you kidding? Absolutely! The people watching alone would be great education.
dmmm
ABSOLUTELY! Why wouldn't you?
2girls4us
Yep, I sure would (and did)! I also counted the days that we went to Epcot last year when we were doing a year of geography. Each time we came to a country in our curriculum that was in World Showcase, we would go for a field trip to explore the pavilion thoroughly. Dmmetler
I can attest that my nieces in Orlando have had field trips to almost every amusement park within a 2 hour bus ride-including Animal Kingdom ;).
sarahj
I'm planning on it. We are headed to Disney on Saturday and I plan to count our two Animal Kingdom days and our two Epcot days as field trip days.
In The Great White North
Every school I ever attended took field trips. Most were "fun" but not particularly educational. Class trip to see Star Wars jumps right to mind, and another to Cedar Point.
My3girls
Yep, totally educational! Have fun! We are headed to Stone Mountain for homeschool day later in the month, and it will be counted.
Plink
If you are intentional about talking with the staff, then absolutely. We stayed at the AK lodge and the kids completed their amazing bead program. They got to use tracking devices, prepare food for the animals, and so much more. I love it when education is fun! Irishmommy
Every school I ever attended took field trips. Most were "fun" but not particularly educational. Class trip to see Star Wars jumps right to mind, and another to Cedar Point. When I taught ps (9th grade English) we watched Star Wars and did analysis on archetypes! umsami
Sure. It is educational--they'll learn a bunch. Heck, you can even talk about math when you talk about the amazing Disney crowd engineering. :) BTW, Disney does do "real" homeschooling days too. :) http://www.disneyyouth.com/our-programs/education/sp/homeschool-days/#categories-homeschool-days
mamatohaleybug
Of course! We've enjoyed lots of Disney World educational days! Lots to learn and see and experience. :)

nousername
How would it differ to a zoo trip? So it has Disney in the name and a few rides. It is the largest animal <theme> park in the world. Home to more than 1,700 animals across 250 species....sounds more educational my local zoo does not have 1700 animals spanning 250 species (YMMV). If you wanted to make an educational component to it. a. They could easily do a write-up on a few of the animals they saw. b. Make a small scrapbook with some of the pictures and include key points. c. Even with the rides, science at its best, defying gravity, loops and twist. Kim in Appalachia
Yes! Actually, I would count any of the parks as a school day. Why not? Schools take amusement park trips. Have fun!
Arcadia
We saw plenty of school kids on field trips to Disneyland in early May. Besides hubby would count not getting lost in any theme park as an achievement. We issue our kids maps and walkie talkies :) Have fun. Mom2OandE
Yes, I would, I have and I will be again this year. We are doing MFW-ECC. We have a planned tripped to Epcot, Animal Kngdom and SeaWorld (Antartica). We are going to stay at Animal Kingdom Lodge so we can do the bead activities and do the African restaurant tours. Mandy in TN
A couple of years ago we went down and did a class at Epcot with a group of homeschoolers. I counted the day at Epcot, but no the rest of the trip. Mandy
Jenny in Florida
I did, several years ago. We did the "safari" attraction, looked at the animals (which is pretty much equivalent to a zoo) and spent a fair amount of time with the edu-tainment exhibits at the Conservation Station. My kids talked to one of the vets on staff and watched a couple of demonstrations.
Sobeknofret
Heck yes! I would absolutely count it!
Berta
We are going to Disneys Homeschool days and they have an educational class that comes with our hopper passes. We are also doing geography and exploration this year so I plan on counting Epcot AND Animal Kingdom as field trips.
rjand6more
Yes. We counted a day at Animal Kingdom and 2 days at Epcot(out of 10). Make a special effort to talk to the staff and spend some time at Rafiki's Planet Watch. My kids learned a lot. The Flights of Wonder was educational, too. I have been on many-a-school field trip where we had just a couple hours to see something slightly educational. AK is so much more than an amusement park. Halcyon
We are back and had a fantastic time. Kids DID learn a lot and we loved the family time. We are wiped out! We were at ak from 11 until 4 and then went to magic kingdom until 7- so fun!
linders
Ummm...I have, actually. AK and Epcot both count as school days when we go. MK and Hollywood Studios, no. Even I couldn't stretch those.
