Language Arts: McRuffy Phonics & Reading

Math: Teaching Textbooks 3

Other: Probably a homemade children around the world study. Other than that, we'll follow interests for history/social studies and science. Oh, and we'll be doing nature studies.

I had a much more involved plan set up, but threw it out and started fresh, to keep it simple and appropriate for my dd's level.

Does your program have the alternate "... with stick/sword" version?

BTW I love your 3rd grade plan. I think I want to be an elementary student at your house.

Oh, yes! Sticks, swords and light-sabers. Alternate activities include marching around as a sentry, arms to the teeth in Tinkertoy rifles secured with various and sundry leather belts. :tongue_smilie: Sigh. Now ds 2 is mirroring ds7 in everything he does, so ds7 is giving him "lessons". They're thick as thieves.

I'd LOVE to give ds fencing lessons. My father took fencing oh so many years ago. (I'd like to learn fencing myself! Imagine a medieval studies major who cannot fence! :svengo:)

We have 2.5 months left of 3rd. We are using what is in my siggy, with various read alouds for science and history (I don't do history the WTM way yet, because between WWE3 and WS kiddo is about at his limit for writing. Also, I prefer a little more living bookishness, and want to focus on the three Rs and science at this age, as I feel the complexities of history are better suited to older children. Thus far anything so complex as human motivations seem to bring out the dogmatism in my son.)

Math: Singapore 3a/b, cwp, ip

LA: PR2-3 We'll continue to accelerate through PR 2 until we hit 3 and then we'll slow down.

History, science, lit: MFW ECC

Co-op: art and latin?

WWE philosophy applied across the curriculum. Ditto memory work.

I never think to list the kids activities or PE. My ds does swimming two days a week, and soccer and basketball when in season. Other than that we try to keep the kids active through play, and park time. I do require daily exercise everyday before school start and we are currently using Gotrybe for that.

I signed my son up for a fencing camp this summer with our county rec program. I told him that it may not be exactly like Star Wars.

My dd, also a very young 3th grader, October birthday, will be doing:

Singapore 3A, 3B

My Pals Are Here 3/4

CW Aesop A (in Dutch)

MP's Christian Studies I (in Dutch)

English (=foreign language, I have FINALLY found a program I like), Dutch grammar, spelling, history, catechism, geography.

I have decided not to use Christian Studies I. The more I was working with it, I was translating it into Dutch, the more unhappy I was with it. After talking with a friend, I decided to do a home made Bible study into which I can also include my little ones. It's home made and in Dutch so not interesting to you all , so I'm moving it to the second part of my line up :D.

New plan:

SM 3A and 3B

MPH3/4

CW Aesop A

and lots of Dutch stuff :tongue_smilie: for English (EFL), grammar, spelling, Bible, catechism, history and geography.

Here are our plans for the upcoming year:

Language Arts: GWG 3, Write Shop Primary B, HWT Cursive

Reading: SL Readers, occasionally BJU reading, advanced phonics work

Math: Saxon 3

Spelling: AAS (finish up 2 and move on to 3)

Science: BJU

History: SOTW 1

Music: home made lessons, Classical kids occasionally

Art: home made lessons using a few resources

PE: co-op class

Extras: none planned yet, but am looking into swimming or horse riding

The only things that might change is AAS. We have terrible ups and downs with this and may change to Apples & Pears if I feel our downs are outweighing our ups. I also would like to try to get other kids we know to join us for our art time.

This will be my first year homeschooling, and I've got a rising 3rd grader. I feel so scatter brained trying to put this together, I thought it might help if I post what I've got so far...

History/Geography: SOTW 1 & mapwork

Math: Singapore 3A/3B

Science: Apologia Swimming Animals

Language Arts: full MCT "Island," including literature (and I'm sure, many other good books along the way)

*Should I add in some sort of handwriting or typing, do you think?*

Music: piano lessons from me, the Classical Kids' CD's (Mr. Bach Lives Upstairs, etc.)

Art: going back and forth between Artistic Pursuits and Meet the Masters

Spanish: *can't decide! Help!*

P.E.: baseball, swimming, hiking, cycling, and maybe tae kwan do

Other: cub scouts, field trips, logic books, educational type games

I chose to add cursive because my daughter wanted to learn and I think it will help her take notes and write essays faster in college, if they don't allow everything to be typed by then. I also intend to play around with Dance Mat typing (it's free) so she can learn to type, as it's an increasingly important skill.

Meet the Masters won over Artistic Pursuits because it has an online teaching component. If I had to teach art all the time, it would virtually never get done.

It depends on what you want from a Spanish program. If you want some fun exposure, La Clase Divertida is good. If you have some familiarity, even if it isn't much, try Getting Started with Spanish, especially if you have a very small budget. I'm trying out Spanish for Children A from Classical Academic Press because it can be taught via DVD and there are online games and music to round it out, and my child learns well that way.

I'm not sure if there is another thread....but here's my plan so far:

The following subjects I combine both dd8 and dd10:

Grammar: FLL4

Writing: IEW SWI-A

Literature: K12 Literature 5A & 5B; Memoria Press lit guides; and lots of reading tied to science and history

History: SOTW3 + AG

Science: Chemistry (my own mix, using "The Atom", Sci in Nutshell kits; Fizz, Bubble & Flash, and various other resources)

Piano: (Alfred Level 2, Masterwork Classics, and Faber's Piano Lit series)

Music: Meet the Great Composers

Art: Meet the Masters

French: L'art de Lire (finish 1 and start 2)

Spanish: charter school class

The following dd8 will do individually:

Maths: Singapore PM 4A/4B; IP/CWP; + ALEKS online

Spelling: Spelling Workout D

Penmanship: Pictures in Cursive

Vocabulary: WordRoots CD-rom

Critical Thinking: Building Thinking Skills CD-rom

P.E.: ballet classes

We've changed a couple things around....decided to go back to CW Aesop B for writing and are now using Piano Town instead of Alfred for piano. Finally, I think we have a concrete plan ready to go! Whew!

*Should I add in some sort of handwriting or typing, do you think?*

Definitely. Printing is top priority if that is still giving a problem, then cursive, then typing. My DD does Writing With Ease for printing, and Zaner-Bloser for Cursive, and I am switching her WWE to cursive by doing it first in cursive myself.
