  1. If anyone would like some lesson plans for Jurgensen's Geometry without having to self-create them, I found out this morning that Memoria Press has recently released a set. A final exam is also included. The set can be purchased here ($9 paper copy or $8 download): https://www.memoriapress.com/curriculum/individual-lesson-plans-subject/
  2. If you've used Foerster's Algebra 1 and liked it, what can you recommend for geometry? My son likes the Math Without Borders instructor, but for geometry MWB uses a text with few reviews that I can find (Geometry: A Guided Inquiry). I'd love to think that if the MWB instructor had the good sense to pick Foerster for algebra, he has also picked a good geometry text, but sometimes assumptions like that get me in trouble.
  3. Our minivan has no roof rack, so our options for carriers are limited. We ended up buying a Roof Bag several years ago, and we've never regretted the purchase. https://www.roofbag.com/ We also purchased the protective mat and optional duffle bags to make loading easier, and those have been worth every penny. We have driven our Roof Bag through several periods of torrential rain (including a tropical storm once) and nothing inside the bag has ever gotten wet.
  4. I thought this was well done for chemistry: http://www.middleschoolchemistry.com
  5. Has anyone used both Hake Grammar and KISS Grammar? Which did you prefer and why? I've been mostly happy with Hake for the past couple of years, but learning that the sentences in KISS come from real literature intrigues me.
  6. We wait until the kids can pass the previously linked 5 step test. For my 2 oldest kids, that happened somewhere around their 10th birthdays. Kid #3 isn't nearly as tall for his age as his brothers are, so I suspect that he'll be in a low back booster for a while longer.
  7. I waited until the end of PP to start AAS with my first two kids. I started AAS once we reached page 100 in PP with kid #3, and I will do the same with kid #4 who just started PP. I thought the combination worked well when we did it.
  8. We're using Hake Grammar and First Form Latin together this year. So far, so good.
  9. We're using a 2 gallon water container that we already owned as our bucket with a spigot. For the stream table, I ordered the cheapest plastic spigot that I could find from Amazon (around $6). It works perfectly in the 97 cent paint tray that I bought at Walmart.
  10. We're starting back on Tuesday along with the public schools here. Monday was my goal, but our weekend ended up being more chaotic than expected and I need one more prep day to be ready.
  11. I used to like black Ticonderogas, but I boycotted them once I learned that they were coated in Microban. Now I buy Staples brand pencils, which work almost as well for a lot less money. With the rate at which my kids lose pencils, less money is a good thing!
