  1. So weird. It's still there. I think there was a period (.) in the link and that made it not work. Here's a link to the pages from the fall of Rome to present. I've got a TON of notebook pages since this was posted. All of the free pages on under "Pages" in the sidebar.
  2. My DD6 is doing something similar to this. I would just start from scratch and move forward as fast as she wants. I'm trying not to freak out as well. I'm trying Rod and Staff Arithmetic 1, as it is similar to some K programs and goes through counting and the numbers for longer than some 1st grade curricula.
  3. Since WWE4 is optional, I might do WWE3 and then go into WWS1 in 6th grade. It does depend on her summarization skills mainly. Dictation can be slowly eased into by giving smaller chunks of each assignment. I'll also be giving a bump for other opinions. :)
  4. I have a grid schedule with ideas that line up with the new Sonlight Core D and my Core D Pinterest page (which is what is scheduled out in my grid schedule).
  5. We just finished 3B, and I do remember this problem. I showed her how to do it and told her she had not learned it this way yet. I was baffled as well. It does cover multi-digit multiplication at the end of 3B.
  6. Everything is more expensive up there. All the people who aren't working in oil and still have lower-paying jobs (which was par for ND) are suffering some. Groceries, gas, everything is more expensive unless you work in oil, which pays big.
  7. That's cool. I am finding this thread irritating and enlightening! If I had not read this, I would not have been able to pick out inaccuracies such as this, and I am thankful for that. PS: I changed my previous original post because it felt inflammatory to me.
  8. Yes, I think it's bizarre that SL would include these things, and it gives me pause on the rest of their notes, but there is no reason to attack someone's decision to use this curriculum. It seems you have a bone to pick with SL, but the accusations mystify me. Who cares if someone else chooses to use something that you dislike? I can see why you are incensed about the inaccuracies displayed in this, but the "can't believe people pass over crap like this..." is just condescending.
  9. I thought you had to have a Bachelor's in education as well, but it looks like it changed! I'm from ND,and yes it is sparsely populated, but the oil boom there is crazy, and there are thousands of people pouring in like a gold rush. Williston is one of the biggest booms there, along with my hometown of Minot.
  10. Thanks so much all! We're leaving Saturday to visit DH's family. DH is from Houston, but it's been so many years. He wants to go to the natural science museum and the ship, but that's all he remembered. We're excited!
  11. It does have a tiny footnote at the bottom stating that these dates are "representative," that it is hard to prove or disprove Fell's claim that Jews settled in Kentucky and Tennessee. It even says the dates are "fairly well-established." It seems they want to point out that these are not hard and true facts, and they aren't attempting to fool anyone with them.
  12. I just wanted to update that homeschool blogger deleted every homeschool blogger blog, so I moved. These pages are still available at http://ButterfliesandBarefootLasses.blogspot.com .
  13. Bumping as well. I am interested in the workbook.
  14. Can anyone tell me some good educational opportunities in or near Houston, TX? We're traveling there soon and would like to do some field trips.
  15. Thank you all for your recs. I'm going to take some time to try to dig into each of these. In the meantime, I'm reading math picture books to her.
  16. I am having trouble choosing a math for my 6yo next year for 1st grade. She is having problems with learning any math this year in K, and I need to start out with something gentle. We're taking a math break now, as she wasn't learning a thing and was just stressed out. I have noticed when we just do the same things for months on end, she gets stressed out, so I'm not sure if a mastery type math will help her at all. She is having trouble recognizing numbers, although she has made tiny, tiny, tiny progress this year. She does read and understands symbols there. I suspect a learning disability, but everyone tells me to not worry about that yet. Anyhow, I've thought of CLE or MUS. I just don't know what to do with her. Any thoughts on this?
  17. I have heard that the 7th grade and up CLE math courses aren't desirable, but I have no idea why. I plan to keep DD10 in CLE through the 6th grade math and then change to something else, possibly MUS, Saxon, or Teaching Textbooks. Bumping for some answers.
  18. It might be mine! I'm Butterflies and Barefoot Lasses. Homeschool Blogger was taken over by someone else, and they erased my old blog, so I moved to a much more stable environment. Here is my new blog! http://Butterfliesan...es.blogspot.com Also, my Core B schedule is shot now that they erased my blog (an you tell I'm irritated?) I will be re-doing the Core B schedule, but it may take several months. All of my posts for Core B are on my new blog above, but the links in my schedule are broken now. They need to be re-updated with the new blog address.
  19. The first book of each new year is completely review. Then in the rest of the Light Units, there are instructions on how to teach.
  20. Do you write in the text? I'm not doing the writing part of Hake 5, just the large student text. I was thinking of having her write in a notebook, but that seems like a lot of writing. Any thoughts on this?
  21. I never used it. I'm one who just wants to get handwriting done.
  22. I just made a large order from Rainbow and a small one from Amazon. I'm waiting for SL's updates to see what I'll do there, probably wait or the new one so it has errors corrected at least. I made some downsizing changes to my buying habits. I usually buy lots of supplemental books, but we end up reading them once and then forgetting them. It seems I bought picture books that were good for history, but not ones that they come back to again and again. My order was smaller, and I'm happy. :) There are a few stragglers like math for DD6 for 1st grade and her phonics, Dancing Bears.
  23. We are doing the new C now. We liked Understood Betsy, though it was quite slow. The book I really disliked in Core B was Follow My Leader. The new books are excellent. We adore Cornstalks, and we're on our second time through. Sticks Across the Chimney is about a brother and sister who have a few adventures in Denmark. They live on land with an ancient Viking mound. Great suspense for this age and a lot of fun adventures. This ties in nicely with the Viking unit. Good Masters Sweet Ladies is an excellent addition, and it lends itself beautifully to the Medieval Ages. Love it! Lancelot is goofy, but a nice addition and a welcome break. Hidden Tales from Eastern Europe is read quickly, and are just good stories. The girls loved it and wanted to read it every night. Pippi is riotous fun, and we love it. I haven't gotten to the other new additions, but we really like this core, even more than B, which we loved too.
