  1. There are quite a few field trip oriented homeschool groups in Tacoma; I've lived here for the last 10 years. If you have any questions about the area, feel free to send me a message. Best of luck to you on your move. :)
  2. I'm not Mandy, but I am going to venture a guess that she's referring to this book.
  3. Natalie, I live close to Kay and would be glad to receive cards for her and deliver them together. Let me know if I can help. :)
  4. We will be doing a few activities and reading a few books from this list: 3/14 = Pi Day
  5. I noticed Kay was missing the other day and thought about stopping by her house, but I'm not good at stopping by unannounced. This is sad, sad, news. I will hold my treasured memories of her even more tightly today.
  6. My kids have loved Timez Attack, Universe Sandbox, and playing with Google Earth.
  7. We used Angela's schedule last year and it worked great. MCT Island Schedule
  8. I'd be glad to have some WTM friends on FB. :D ChiknGirl
  9. My Elephant and Piggie loving son also enjoyed the Fly Guy books.
  10. We tried RS4K Biology and didn't like it. We switched to RSO and have completed Biology and Chemistry. RSO is a winner in our house. The kids love it and I find it easy to do. RSO does not require a lot of writing and is easy to add extra reading to.
  11. This has been a favorite for us, as well as anything by this author. Greg's Microscope
  12. Me too, me too, me too! I'm all :bigear: waiting for responses. I'm thinking of some kind of spreadsheet with types of STEM subjects along the top and dates along the side. Then I can fill in descriptions of projects by date and type. I wouldn't include all the dates in the school year though, just the dates that I have a project/activity to add.
  13. We used HO Ancients Level 1 and CHOLL Ancients grammar stage together this year. The timelines didn't match up exactly, but it worked out ok. The kids didn't seem to mind and enjoyed finding the connections to prior readings when they could. I don't know how logic stage would work since there is significantly more reading in HO than there was in the grammar stage. I would say it's worth a try. My kids really enjoyed the books from CHOLL.
  14. http://www.explorationeducation.com/ may be a good choice for you. You could combine them in the same level or have them in different levels because the concepts covered would be the same, just at different depths.
  15. We followed Angela's (SatoriSmiles) schedule and thoroughly enjoyed it. We did some the writing activities in BL and we did them aloud. We took turns with the similies to see how many we could come up with. Sometimes it devolved into nonsense and giggles, other times we struggled to come up with 1 or 2 good ones.
  16. I just got it from the library, too. I'm almost finished and will be re-reading it to take notes. It feels like every page has been an ah-ha moment. His 6 levels of thinking have really made an impression on me. I plan on asking dh to read it too.
  17. We did FLL 1 & 2 and switched to MCT Island. We love MCT!
  18. This is our first year using CHOLL and we are loving it! :D
  19. I've been considering this: http://www.explorationeducation.com/ I'm hoping to hear more suggestions. :D
  20. :iagree: I feel very strongly about this. There is no going back once you've made modifications. I would never make a decision to modify another adult's body, yet it is legal and acceptable to permanently modify children, including newborns, bodies.
  21. Archimedes is on Galileo and the Stargazers. Here is the link to all of Jim Weiss' recordings in chronological order. Link
  22. I don't know if this has made any difference in their relationship but we follow the ideas of attachment parenting, had a family bed when they were younger and the number 1 rule in our house has always been love each other. They don't always get along, but their times when they are unhappy with each other usually only last 5 minutes and they go right back to playing/cuddling/whatever they were doing. I expect when they are 12 and 14 they will have a whole different relationship. :D
  23. :iagree: Same thing with public profiles and social groups.
  24. My daughter started the Island series two weeks ago. Without a word from me she has started notebooking what she has learned from it. She has lovely lists of subject and object pronouns, a description of definite and in definite articles, a list of the eight parts of speech and some other stuff. Writing things down helps her remember and she enjoys being able to look back at it later. Maybe you could let your child decide if they want to notebook what they have learned. I provide my children with notebooks, dividers for each curriculum they have and some appropriate paper like graph paper in the math section, plain lined paper in the grammar section, lined paper with boxes for pictures in the history section and let them do as they please with it. If they draw a picture or make a map for something I have them add it to their notebook. For my children, giving them the option to notebook without requiring everything be notebooked has let them figure out what is important to them and helped them remember it.
