Batman.

I’m lactating. Like … wth…heck???

I’ve been helping my dd daily and she’s trying to produce enough milk to feed two. Is my body really just trying to volunteer itself as tribute without my consent?

I thought it was odd that my books have felt fuller and heavier but haven’t had time to really ponder it. But today I leaked a bit.

I really don’t know what to say or ask. I don’t even know why I’m telling y’all this 🤣 This is insane right ????

It's probably hormones and being around new babies, but you need to go to your doctor.  Tomorrow. It can be a symptom of some kinds of breast cancer.

Maybe but I didn’t have this before holding babies so much so I’m not too worried about that.

Truly I wondered about that happening when you were describing all the nursing and pumping.  It makes sense to me, anyway.

Oh wow.  The body is pretty amazing isn't it?

So I did some reading and I guess it isn’t so uncommon in third world cultures where the families are more tight knit? In fact it is often the solution when moms can’t produce enough since they don’t have formula or bottles. It’s wild that this is a thing.

Then you were one step ahead of me 🤣. This thought never occurred to me. Like ever.

I think it's amazing, and I have no doubt it's the baby exposure.

How long has it been since you nursed a baby?  I spent 8 years total bf'ing, and I "leaked" a tiny bit for years and years afterward.

It’s been a while. Youngest is 13 🤣 He nursed until he was 2 or so?

Yes your body is volunteering itself for tribute. I don't hold babies because one time I held a baby a year after weaning and I could feel my books trying to "let down". So I know my body would be rip-roaring ready to volunteer itself as tribute.

I was once at the mall and heard a random newborn cry and my milk let down. It had been at least 5 years since I'd nursed my kids. Biology is a funny tricky thing.

Wow so I’m not totally crazy after all 😜

I simply had no idea this could happen. I guess we learn something new every day.

Bodies are amazing! So, gonna start pumping, lol?

No, I have no intention of pumping 😂.      I guess if dd’s milk supply simply isn’t  enough then maybe it would be better than formula 🤣. I think dd will be able to produce enough. ETA - her milk has just truly come in in the last day. It just took a little while.

I helped my oldest daughter when she was in the throws of ppd. I don't think grandbaby ever got more than a few drops (before we were able to get emergency formula), but the b00ks were definitely trying to let down - five years after I had stopped nursing my youngest! (she was 5 years when she finally quit, and I'm pretty sure she was dry-nursing, it was only about once a week by then).

So, yeah, definitely a thing! 🤣

A new reason to beg the gods even harder to get this menopause thing to finally kick in! 😁

I’m clearly the dissenter on this. That’s all I’m gonna say. I mentioned this on another thread once and got lambasted lol, but I stand by it. 😉

Lol, I hated breast feeding with the fire of a thousand suns, and barely survived a year with each cute little leech. 😁 So I am definitely a bad bad bad bad bad person for the above situation to happen to...looks over at dh holding Baby T and thinking, maybe I should worship that kid from afar and NOT hold him! 😂😂😂 Ya, dream on. In ten seconds, I will be cuddling him.

Yes it sounds like you would be horrified in my shoes 😂 It’s ok that you felt that way and I know some women do but I loved it. Such a sweet time. It’s really cool that you did it for your kiddos for the first year even though you didn’t love it. What a great mom 😊

Girl, same. I was grateful to provide nursing and all but once it was over, I never looked back. If I milk up for grand babies I’m gonna need a couple glasses of wine.

When my friend's little girl was about 18 months and she had not BF the baby for about 9 months at that point, the baby got cancer.   I was reading up on early childhood cancer and it suggested BFing the child for the health benefits.   I then looked up how to BF if you haven't done it for several months or longer.   I was shocked that once you have given birth and your body has produced milk that you can make it happen again by doing several different things to start it back up.

She didn't end up BFing her child again and that baby is now 24 and married and doing well.   Because of all the chemo she is very tiny and I don't think she can bear children, but she is alive and well.

I will second this. I have a relative that would leak a bit on and off for years, and over the last 19 years, she had breast cancer, went into remission, and now has MBC.

I wouldn't freak out, but I would ask for a referral to a specialist that will actually give you data on this, not just mammo you and send you on your merry way.

I think I’m the context of very close exposure to newborn twins, that lactation makes sense, especially given it’s only been about ten years since you stopped nursing.  But I would definitely want it checked.  Pituitary tumors can also cause lactation.  But I think cancer would be much more of a concern if you weren’t living with newborn twins.

That is interesting @Katybecause when I looked it up last night I couldn’t find any references to breast cancer but like @Terabithsays I see the connection mentioned a lot to pituitary tumors? But if your aunt did it then maybe I should get it checked.
I would definitely be concerned if I wasn’t taking care of two tiny little ones 12 hours a day. It’s a lot of baby exposure 😅. Did your aunt have stimulation like that or was is disconnected to being around babies ?
