5th grade:

Plus I work at an after school program which utilizes accelerated reader and Accelerated math so we will also utilize those programs during the school year.

Dd will be doing the following:

 

Bible: Readings associated with MOH 1 and AWANA.

Math: TT6, LOF Fractions and Decimals and Percents

Language Arts:R&S 5 for grammar, WWE 4 + additional writing with history and science, Spelling Power, Reading to go with History, Science and good classics I find.

History: MOH 1 and SOTW 1 + Diana Waring CD's for ancients + LOTS of good lit, primary sources and Netflix to go along with what we are studying. Geography will be tied into history with mapping exercises.

Science: Science Shepherd Life Science plus I have WAY to many supplements. Didn't realize how much I had bought until I had it all planned out. I don't know that we will finish it all in 5th- this may carry over into 6th.

Spanish: Getting Started with Spanish and online supplements

Latin: Getting Started with Latin once we finish GSWS and move onto something else for Spanish.

 

Plus we have a Wednesday Charlotte Mason style co-op all day that does Poetry memorization, hymns, folk-songs, artist study, composer study, crafts, presentations and nature study so we will only do our other school work 4 days a week.

 

She also plays volleyball and basketball. One is fall the other is Spring- she wants to join the swim team also. We will have to see how busy her schedule is. Swim does not start until November. She will start band this year as well. Not sure what instrument yet :)

Main: HOD Creation to Christ

Language Arts: Rod and Staff English 5, Rod and Staff Spelling, Caesar's English I, Writing with Skill alternately with IEW SWI B and lots of good classics I find

PE/Special Interest: ballet, swimming, piano, possibly art lessons

 

I will also be teaching her basic chinese.

We school year-round and have been doing some of this stuff for awhile now and some stuff we haven't started yet, so our plans may change around January.

Foreign Languages: Latin Prep and German Demystified

Art/Music: Story of the Orchestra, 25 Children's Favorites (classical music), Art: A History, Meet the Masters

 

Science: Astronomy - we have not decided what to use for this, yet. We're still wrapping up Physics.

Art Appreciation: We will be studying artists from the history time period we are studying. We are going to be using videos from Khan Academy, Sister Wendy's Story of Painting, and encyclpedia articles.

PE: 60 minutes of physical activity every day plus three days a week of directed PE

My ds11 is kind of between 5th/6th grades. Here is what I have planned...

 

Math: Teaching Textbooks, second half of 5 and then into 6; Family Math; mathy/living math books

 

Grammar: Alternating Grammar Land and Sentence Family

 

Writing: Brave Writer Lifestyle/Writer's Jungle, so basically writing across the curricculum; Unjournaling (for freewrite prompts)

 

History: Using books from the What Your _ Grader Needs to Know to introduce history topics, then following rabbit trails with vintage books, documentaries, etc.; CNN Student News for current events

 

Science: BFSU as a jumping off point, supplemented with the Kingfisher Science Encyclopedia, the Happy Scientist, documentaries, etc. Rabbit trails as desired!

 

Latin: Getting Started with Latin

 

Logic: Harry Stottlemeier's Discovery

 

Geography: The Complete Book of Marvels

 

The Arts, Literature, etc.: A book basket approach, using A Picture Perfect Childhood and my own Narnia study, along with art/music from the Core Knowledge books, piano lessons, and plenty of hands-on art

Dd's 5th grade plan:

 

Math: Saxon 7/6, CWP5, HOE, Patty Paper Geometry, and various other stuff. I'm okay if this takes longer than one year.

 

Language Arts: Shurley 6, Phonetic Zoo, IEW American History Based Writing Lessons, VP 5th grade lit, and various other supplements.

 

History: VP Explorers - 1850 and SOTW 3 Not much of this overlaps so it may take up to 18 months to cover.

 

Science: Anatomy and Forensics using Apologia's Anatomy and various materials from WinterPromise and SL.

 

Bible: VP Gospels

 

Art: Atelier Art 2 and 3

 

Music: Piano (if I can find a teacher) and Opal Wheeler composer study books

 

Latin: finish Latin for Children B and start C

 

Spanish: I don't know what resources I'll use, but we ARE starting Spanish this year.

 

Geography: Beautiful Feet Geography (2 books) and Mapping the World with Art (will be completed over several years) and various other stuff

English/writing- IEW, ETC and a mix of a few other things that seem to be working with his disabilities.

 

Math- TT

 

Science- a mix of several books

 

Art- I am looking into a program for claymation.

 

Music- recorder, bells and possible piano

 

PE- Gymnastics, swimming, running. Lots of outside time, too.

 

History- American history this year

We'll be starting up in mid-August, after a long vacation, and when Mo starts back to school. I'm so excited! Some of this stuff we started already between April & June, and we'll pick up where we left off. Turns out we all needed a summer break after all . . .

 

Math: Math Mammoth 5, LOF Fractions & Decimals, BA Geometry & Perim & Area chapters

Latin: Latin Prep 1

LA: MCT Town, WWS, and home-grown literature study

History: SOTW 3, The Making of America, A Young People's History of the US

Artist/Composer study: various resources from the library

Geography: Mapquest, etc.

Science: Biology, with a "minor" in Entomology, using lessons from BFSU B-thread and a lot of living books

PE: Lots of playing, bike riding, golf etc.

 

I may have him start an instrument this year...piano lessons or something such of the sort....:D

All About Spelling 5

WWS

Literature: various books from sonlight lists with our own discussions and writings done a la WTM (I hope)

History Odyssey Ancients

Elemental Science Bio for Logic

Music/Art - picture study, artist study, listening to classical music, story of the orchestra

geography: finish up the western states we didn't get to this past year (a state a week)

 

I really need to buckle down and prepare for the upcoming year. My kids haven't been keeping up with reading, math etc. this summer (my fault) and I have a feeling it isn't going to be a pleasant beginning.
