  1. I can't say enough good things about Derek Owens. All of his online self paced math courses are excellent. HTH http://derekowens.com/course_info_geometry.php
  2. We were in the same situation three years ago. It was the only church I had ever been a part of, we got married there, had our children baptized there. My oldest DS (14 at the time) had grown up there. We had been active members for 16 years. It was one of the the hardest decisions I had ever made. It was painful, like a divorce I suppose. We had issues with several things so it wasn't a happy good-bye. All that to tell you that it was, like the others have said, the best decision we ever made. We are in a much healthier church and have been blessed in more ways than I can count. In the few weeks after we left, we visited other churches. It felt like we were lost, wandering in the dessert. I felt like I didn't have a home. Still, we had a great sense that God was with us, moving us and directing us. I was so thankful that it didn't take long to find another church and that everyone in our family agreed it was the right place. I can totally understand how sad and how scary this is for you. I think the thing that helped me was to know that if leaving was a mistake then God would bring us back. It also helped to just be sad, to grieve and to talk about it with people that understood. Slowly tears of sadness turned to tears of joy as we found a new church home and a new family. I still stay in touch with people I was close to at the other church. Good friends won't stop being friends just because you feel called to move on. Hang in there and I pray that you will be blessed for your courage to step out and trust God as He brings you to your new home. He already has it all planned so you don't need to worry.
  3. I asked my son and he said the odd numbered problems have solutions in the back. He said it would be AN1 which comes right after page 842. HTH
  4. I fourth (or fifth?) Derek Owens! My DS did Algebra II and is now doing Precalc. It has been such a great experience for him. I just signed DS2 up for Prealgebra so we are becoming a Derek Owens family.
  5. I think this link should give you some information. I believe Jan. May and Oct. are the months you can get questions and answers for SAT. I know ACT has the same service in December because I signed my DS up for that already. There are other months too. Scroll down a little... http://sat.collegeboard.org/scores/verify-sat-scores
  6. Just an added note regarding timing of the SAT. If you have your teen take the test in Jan. instead of Dec. you can pay a little extra and get a report with the answers showing which ones they got wrong and what it should have been. They only do that certain months and January is one of them. HTH
  7. I came to this forum asking for help finding an online AP Latin class and someone suggested Wilson Hill Academy. I am so thankful! The teacher, Joanna Hensley. is absolutely wonderful and my son is learning so much. Their software works great and we have had no problems. They have high school Latin. Here is a link: http://www.wilsonhillacademy.com/academics/latin/
  8. I just went through this with my DS. I didn't want him getting two sets of x-rays. The dentist just skipped the x-rays and asked that the orthodontist send copies to him when they did them. HTH
  9. For those who haven't ordered yet, I got a coupon code from HST this morning. Use SEPT914 for 10% off site wide through 9/10/14.
  10. Imitations in Writing This is the first book. http://www.logospressonline.com/imitation-in-writing-aesops-fables/
  11. That was the source I was going to say also. They are great!
  12. I will add a few random good ones and then will follow this thread. I am collecting poems for a year of study as well. The Charge of the Light Brigade - Tennyson The Daffodils - Wordsworth Not in Vain - Dickenson Paul Revere's Ride - Longfellow Plant a Tree - Larcom If - Kipling The Raven - Poe She Walks in Beauty - Byron Sonnet 91 - Shakespeare Solitude - Wheeler Wilcox The Spider and the Fly - Howitt The Sycophantic Fox and the Gullible Raven - Carryl
  13. Black Ships Before Troy (the one illustrated by Alan Lee)
  14. I need help finding a good dishwasher! We had an Asko, which is supposed to be wonderful but it has one of those baskets which catches the food and it stunk all the time! Cleaning it was nasty. Granted, I have 3 boys who don't do the best job scraping but still.. So when it broke, we bought a KitchenAid which has a built in food disposal system. It solved that problem but the dishwasher is already broken after only 4 years. It has never cleaned the dishes well either. That means I don't want a KitchenAid again. How do you decide? Do you deal with the nasty food basket to get a better dishwasher? It looks like many new models only come with that basket. The appliance guy said the government is making the companies switch to that basket because it saves water. Can anyone help me with this quandary? Do you have a dishwasher you love even with messy kids? Ugh this is taking up way too much time during a very busy time of year. I would love the Hive's advice! Thanks!
