Renthead Mommy
It's a Japanese home, 557 square feet. The bookshelves are built as part of the support structure for the house. It's the WTM dream home! It's part of that tiny home movement, it has plenty of book space, it's built for someone who seems to really love books, and it's bookshelves are actual support! LOL! Only question is if it comes with a crockpot! http://realestate.yahoo.com/promo/house-of-shelves.html
Guest Dulcimeramy
WOW. That is really something. Does it come with a person to dust all the bookshelves, too? Not sure how I feel about the bookshelves surrounding the toilet. Of course, that is probably just because I am the mother of four boys. It might not be a problem for everyone. Renthead Mommy
That was my first thought. The dust would be overwhelming. Yes but in a house that size, you could easily have an air cleaning system that would suck the dust right out of the air. Plus you'd have so much less to make dust! Newer construction, tighter seals, fewer rugs, towels and linens to make dust. Keep the tissues out and buy high quality toilet paper and problem basically sovlved. (Have you ever noticed the bathroom is the dustiest room between the toilet paper and tissues?) So one more pro - no dusting.
JudyJudyJudy
I think it's awesome, but my first thought is that the books would get moldy in the bathroom with all that humidity!

Amy in NH
I bet you'd have a good R-value if you filled all the exterior-wall shelves with books!
stripe
I am not sure the owner intends to keep books in the bathroom, but could keep other things in there, like decorative objects. Awesome idea.

elegantlion
My cat would have so much fun in there. I would have so much fun in there. I've lived in 600sf before and it didn't have that appeal. Oh my! I don't dh would be too keen on tearing out interior walls and rebuilding the supports with bookshelves, or maybe he would, it would save floor space. I love the stairs. redsquirrel
Except that dust is something like 85% cast off human skin cells. I would love it despite the dust. After all, I don't dust what I have now, so why would I start? It is loverly!

Awesome idea. :smacks forehead Yes, or maybe towels, soap....we started school yesterday. Is that enough reason for me to not be thinking very deeply today? LOL They were called bookshelves in the headline, therefore all slots and shelves are for books and only books. That's kinda what I was thinking, I guess. I am getting dumber, people!!! oraetstudia
Love it! Although, as my husband pointed out, if we tried to retrofit it into our house, our floors would collapse.
JudyJudyJudy
Are there any windows? If not, then I'd stay up all night reading the books and then sleep all day.

MelAR05
And a closet to hang the demin jumpers in!:lol::lol: I saw that article this morning and was :drool5:! They really might be on to something here. Much better use of space than just a plain wall. We could get the rest of the books out of the garage into the house. My husband would buy it for that reason alone. He is tired of my homeschool stuff taking up space in his garage. :) Edited July 7, 2011 by MelAR05 correction
