Doran
I'm terrible at this game. I just totally blank out on all movies!! :-) Here are my top 3 for each.1. Mr Holland's Opus (and other inspirational teacher story movies!) 2. Remember the Titans (I am a TOTAL sucker for a sports movie!!! I love them) 3. The Family Man Kids: 1. Mary Poppins 2. The original Parent Trap 3. Narnia Let ya' in on a little secret. I'm terrible at this game, too (see my note above to Laurie). One of the reasons I asked the question in the first place was to generate a list I could keep to help jog my memory for great movies. I've seen a ton of these, but if you'd asked me to list them...???...I'd have drawn a big fat blank. Aah, the power in being the OP!

JFSinIL
This is HARD! If I leave off musicals and certain BBC or A5E tv shows ;) , I can manage to come up with: Lawrence of Arabia Master and Commander The Aviator LOTR Rebecca (with Orson Welles) but then what about my Jimmy in White Heat and Yankee Doodle Dandy and all the other movies with my favorite actor of all time! Or the action-packed, yet soooo romantic Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon? Jane Eyre (with Orson Welles as Mr. R!!!) Where do I put Atticus, I mean, To Kill a Mockingbird? And what do I do with Titanic (oh no, Leo got his feet wet and died!)? My Bollywood flicks? Peter Sellers in The Party? Or The Queen? A Beautiful Mind??? aargh - I could go on and on - too many good films out there! Kid movies are somewhat easier: Wizard of Oz The Black Stallion National Velvet (the original) Milo and Otis Totoro
Remudamom
I'm getting a big kick out of the movies we're categorizing as "kid" and "adult". Our youngest are almost 14 now, and we let them watch a lot of R movies, and avoid a lot of PG-13s. I wouldn't let ours watch High School Musical, but they watch Braveheart. Grandma never understood why they couldn't watch Sesame Street at her house, but I would let them watch LOR. Basically I'm a nude prude. I think the the nekkid scenes are best avoided for the kids. But I have allowed them to watch a great deal of other stuff that some parents would avoid. Last night we all watched Hot Fuzz (forgive me), and they thought it was hysterical, but it's not something they get to watch again. So, that said, I'm not going to differentiate. LoTR series HP series Oh Brother! All Jane Austens (I'm really cheating here) Lonesome Dove anything by M. Night Shymalan PoC series Probably the Narnia series too, when they all come out. Pixar movies.

Doran
I'm still mildly fascinated by how little (relatively speaking) overlap there is in all these suggestions. If I wasn't a homeschooling parent who also needed to be creating for herself a new source of income (:willy_nilly:), I'd take the time to graph or otherwise chart all the titles listed here so we could see what got the popular vote. But, it just goes to show how little the popular vote really matters in a case like this. :D

Stacia
I've noticed that a few of you have mentioned Memento as a favorite film. So, please, could somebody explain it to me in a nutshell? (I know that's a tall order!) That whole movie just went completely over my head. :confused1: (And, usually I'm able to follow complex plot lines, artsy or unusual concepts, etc... I promise!) Angela in TN
PG-13 +Legends of the Fall That is one of my all time favorite movies and I will for sure sob (not just cry) every time. StaceyinLA
I watch movies for pure enjoyment most of the time. I think I would have to own Titanic because I can't imagine never seeing it again in my life. I'd own Never Been Kissed because it just cracks me up to this day! I'd own The Patriot because of Mel and Heath Ledger on the same screen being such MEN!! I'd own Knight's Tale because of Heath Ledger being so darn good-looking, and it was quite a great flick! And I guess I'd have to have a toss-up between Pretty Woman and Erin Brockovich, not because I'm a Julia Roberts fan in particular, but I LOVED Pretty Woman and I thought Erin Brockovich was a great movie and thought she did a fab acting job in it. Had to come back and say that I might have to put Major Payne on the list and remove something else, but I just don't know what. Major Payne was SO funny!!! Kids' flicks: Eight Below (which would be #1 on the adult list if I wasn't able to cheat and put it on the kid list - gosh there are so many things about this movie that make me love it; Paul Walker being first and the dogs coming in a very close second) Disney's Robin Hood (been a long time since I've seen it but it was my fave - LOVED the music in it!!) Honestly, I can't really think of any more kid flicks. My baby is 13 and it's been a long time since we've watched a kid movie. I guess Narnia would be one. My kids would pick The Lord of the Rings, though they aren't kid movies. They might pick Harry Potter (also questionable as to whether or not they are kid movies). We did enjoy Disney's Peter Pan as well back when they were little, and oldest dd just mentioned how she always loved Sleeping Beauty (though I thought it was evil).
