  1. My ds (15) just got his heart broken for the first time. He did not see it coming and my heart is breaking for him. This has been a tough day.
  2. Nice sheets are pretty important. I love a good set of crisp white sheets. But I will search for a deal. You can get high quality sheets from HomeGoods for a decent price. I don't know it you have one of those nearby. Towels are not as important to me, but I do like the ones from Target.
  3. I vaguely remember a discussion about this but cannot find it. Does anyone have a list that correlates the Apologia chemistry to the TTC dvds?
  4. I am a huge fan of AG. Yes, we did get low scores on punctuation because we are not there yet. I know they are getting a really good understanding of grammar compared to many years of not quite finishing the book with other curriculum and then we would start ALL OVER the next year. This year is the 3rd yr. for us with AG. It is one of my best finds.
  5. My son has taken both but not the same year. Apologia course are time consuming just to read, answer the on your own questions, and do the study guide. My son likes science, but with his other courses would not be able to do both well.
  6. Staples is running a special for 5cents a copy. My printer is currently possessed:lol: So, I went online and sent a bunch of stuff to be copied and then stopped by the store a couple of hours later and voila there is was! Pretty easy.
  7. I have never posted on a theological thread but always read them. I am posting now just to say thank you to those who defend their faith in a loving and informed manner, a special thanks to Kathleen in VA. I wish I could write so clear and concise. My ds(14) will be studying world view/philosophy this year and I think I will save this post. I do believe that the scriptures are the Word of God and to really understand them you have to read the entire book and study the verses in context. This discussion has been a great reminder to me the importance to studying God's Word. I have enjoyed reading this thread.
  8. My kids don't have terrible handwriting, but I taught a couple of kids in my co-op that did. I never really criticized them, but talked with the class about writing through out life and it needing to be legible, not to mention the essays on the SAT. They have greatly improved over the past several years. Writing for someone other than mom can be a movitator and of course lots of practice.
  9. We used the IEW SAT Essay course this year. I thought it was great. He talks about writing to your audience and who that it. There is a lot of great information and tons of practice questions. HTH
  10. My youngest ds in the 7th grade, so I am just on the tail end of this stage. I used IEW because of the very clear instructions. While some find it constricting, my dc, both boys, found it clear as to what to do. For me, I would have loved some sort of grading rubric with maybe guideline numbers for each grade for number of words, grammar mistakes, etc. Examples of writing for each grade would be great. I have seen "good" examples but "bad, needs work" would have been helpful too.
  11. We are a 2 dog family. One male and one female. I think they are much happier with a companion. We had just the one for about 2 yrs before we got another one (as a puppy). I feel better when we leave the house knowing they have each other. OK, that sounds a little silly , but I am a dog person.
  12. 9th grade schedule for ds Math - Finish Jacobs Algebra and move on to Geometry English - LotLR, 3rd yr AG, Vocab for the College Student Science - Apologia Chemistry Foreign Language - RS Spanish (co-op), online Latin w/ Memoria PE - HS basketball team, karate, maybe cross country History - Notgrass American World View/Philosophy Class (co-op) Extra curricular - Plays guitar for Sunday services I would love to add World Geography but it would be too much
  13. I have a friend who frequently has too many kids for her vehicle and she will just double buckle them. What are your thoughts on this? It really bothers me so I try to always avoid my kids ever going with her. Even if she has room for mine, I am afraid she will add more. Am I being extreme on this?
  14. I don't have any suggestions for your menu, but just wanted to say how wonderful it is that your dad wants to have a party to celebrate life. I hope you have a great time and make lots of sweet memories.
