Kathy Do yourself a favor and don't ever have it. Just say no. Why start on the expensive, hip expanding habit that the rest of us are trying to break. Don't do it. Don't look for it in the store. By all means do not give it to your kids. Then they will be your mom to buy the Costco double pack. And you'll have it in the house. Calling to you. BakersDozen
I bought the Costco double pack after reading so much about it here. It is yummy and it is very fattening! We have it once/week but I do not have it at all. ;)

Evergreen State Sue
My son needed to gain some weight and the first thing unknowing doctors will say is to give snacks with peanut butter for the protein. However, my son is allergic to peanuts. A doctor then told us about Nutella as a substitute. A very yummy alternative for him.
ocelotmom
Nutella has lower fat and sodium than an equivalent amount of peanut butter, but higher sugar - even when you're talking about the sweetened brands. As far as I can tell from reading nutritional labels, even PB&J is going to be slightly lower sugar (assuming accurate portion sizes). But Nutella is VERY yummy! Mejane
Now wait just a minute here! Nutella is more than chocolate; it's made from hazelnuts. Hazelnuts are heart-healthy and contain arginine which is good for hypertension. At least that's why I eat it. YMMV. ;)

regentrude
It's a staple in our house. I don't care that it's not healthy - it tastes good. Perfect as part of a balanced diet.

melissel
We're a yes for Nutella here, but I had to stop buying it because I couldn't stop eating it. DH kept finding me in the kitchen digging into it with a spoon. It was bad for our marriage and bad for my thighs. I want to cry a little when I pass it in Costco though :( It's heavenly. kamom
 Seriously! I was reading this thread and another one about Nutella, and I started to wonder if we'd be able to get to Costco today! It's scary, I tell you! They should have a warning on the label. Warning: this food is highly addictive, may cause excessive weight gain and serious cravings. Dangerous to keep in the house. Taste at your own risk.
Happy
I eat it with sliced Granny Smith apples...so, it's healthy. Many people in Europe eat it like we eat Peanut Butter...sandwiches, on crackers, etc. I perfer the sweet/tart flavor of having it with apples. Mynyel
Between dd and I we can eat a whole big jar in one setting... not that we would really know cuz, we have never done it. No... that would just be gluttony!:D
Nakia
I could eat a jar a day. I <3 that stuff!!!! awtl
I was wondering the same thing-I've been hearing so much about it, but before this thread, I didn't really know what it was. I looked it up on the internet just now. There is a sweepstake, in case anyone's interested:http://www.nutellausa.com/giveaway.htm I did a search with the store locater...there isn't a store that sells it withing 120 miles. I guess I won't be trying it....

Heidi
Nutella is healthier than a melted candybar like Ovaltine is healthier than Hersheys syrup. It just isn't. However, who wouldn't want a whole wheat melted candybar sandwich? http://www.nutellausa.com/nutrition.htm
Peela
I once read that Nutella is very high in Vitamin E. Yeah. So are potato chips. Doenst make it good for you :) Is it new in America? Its been around here for many years and I guess the novelty has worn off. I just know it as one of those foods that are best off never entering the house. joannqn
I've never had it. I've looked at it in the store a few times because I've seen the hype here on the boards but the packaging makes it look like health-food nastiness so I've never been tempted to actually buy it. Elisabeth in IL
I first had Nutella in 1986 for breakfast on a baguette in France with a big bowl of cafe au lait. Yummy!!! It brings back such fond memories. I'm glad it is easier to find here in the States now!!

I tried it, it's so gross. Not good on a spoon and even worse on bread. Someone at my MOPS group was gifted with a case of it and hated it so much that she brought in the whole case to give away to people there. Audrey
Definitely not healthier than chocolate -- in fact far more unhealthy than you think. Also, it is poo in a jar. Looks like poo. Tastes like poo (of someone who's eaten hazelnuts recently).

ocelotmom
I can't eat nutella because of the baby's issues with dairy. This thread just made me go crack raw hazelnuts (man, that's a pain), smash them up, mix them with dark cocoa powder, coconut milk, a little pecan oil, and sugar. Not quite right, but it tasted good. mandymom
One of my kids' favorite treats is Nutella "s'mores". Take 2 graham crackers and spread Nutella on one and marshmallow cream on the other. Put them together and you've got a s'more. I prefer it on thick toast that you broil in the toaster oven. It's as close as I can come to some yummy chocolate toast that I got in Taiwan! Edited February 8, 2011 by mandymom
Jane Elliot
When we lived in England, someone broke our van window to steal a half-eaten jar of Nutella off the dashboard. I had been eating it with a spoon. I've always hoped that perpetrator caught my nasty cold.
